just because he has to know, and he's trying to be the best fiance he could be. will study a fictional character intently if you swoon at them, because he's grown the stage of scoffing at "2D characters" (his own words) with indifference. he doesn't want to occupy your every thought, but he needs to know that he's at least on your mind somewhere, maybe littered amongst other things, like what's for dinner, that task you've been holding off, and that cat you've been longing to adopt for a while now.
because he's needy like that. he needs to feel the bed sink slightly as you prop yourself on your elbow and frown slightly as you think about his random musings. see the tremble on your lip when you retract an answer for a better one because it might not suffice. hear the soft whisper of your hair as your run your fingers into the strands, perhaps because scratching and scrubbing and itching the place there'll make an answer come faster.
placing different hoops on his finger to see how a ring would look like. your hoop earring. a cheerio. went as far to try to place a basketball hoop around his slim wrist, but we don't talk about that. a lolipop ring. those cheese-loop things. i'm sure he gets excited by just rolling and rotating a bottlecap between his fingers, the grooves just promising and optimistic as the soon-to-be-wed.
practises holding a cat carefully between his arms after practice, as he knows that baby-holding is a skill he deems essential. will even teach it how to say your name in vain, but at least he manages to summon a mewl from the kitten itself whenever he says your name.

literally meditates under the rain and snow so that waiting patiently under upset weather for you becomes second nature. practises unzipping dresses and zipping them back up again. applying lipstick.
maybe he's thinking too much. maybe he's being a bit too needy. wanting to be perfect for you is the least he could ever do, though. it's being there for you that counts the most, and he's willing to go the extra mile for that.
he'll even let you eat his french-fries.
