Early sketches for a third new wwdits character, Kuzma. My other two are vampires whose transformations into vamps are connected to different points in Soviet history. Kuzma is a Soviet lab-made frankenstein’s monster of sorts, inspired by literature the literal and figurative dismemberment of the Soviet male veteran body after WW2, and the pre-war experiments of Sergei Briukhonenko in reanimation and attaching animals together to attempt to form one working organic system.
He was created as a prototype for a “composite soldier” after the end of the war from pieces of the dead as a way to reduce casualties in the future and also serve social functions in peace time. (Idk yet about the right Russian term… bear with it…) While he has a high level of intelligence for having been created recently, having assimilated a broad socialist education as part of his conditioning, over 70 years on he has trouble with motor skills, body maintenance, and also generally experiencing a different world (America) that he feels is rather unkind and chaotic. Even still, he goes out of his way to be as nice as possible, even if his offer to hold someone’s groceries ends up with him chasing fallen rolling oranges down a subway platform.
He was brought to New York with one of my vampire ocs, Inessa, somehow (figuring this out) and they both settled among Soviet emigres in Brighton Beach along with Vika, my second vamp.
