okay another rhodes family headcanon is that when her dad would call home when deployed, her mom would always end their conversations with “get home safe, i’ll leave the light on” and emily started to adapt it when she got older to saying “leave the light on” when she would leave her parents or her brothers for the night and i think that’s quite beautiful pls
also if you’re in a relationship w her or have been, she’s probably ended phone conversations like that w you too just because she spent so long listening to her mom say it that it slowly became her own thing.

emily had been milliseconds away from explaining (for the second time) to mags that she was okay. when fingers grabbed at her arm and she was suddenly engulfed in her friends arms, that was when it hit her. she wasnt okay. the feeling of someone being there - even if it wasn't to force her to explain all of her emotions or to try and fix it all, it was even more comforting than emily could imagine. being more open about not being okay was something she was still working on, but magnolia made it easy to keep her mouth shut while still getting the help that she needed. after a second of being held in her arms, emily pulled away for a moment to sign a quick "thank you."
