Wits reader only remembering things about link reminds me how wild only remembered memories about his connection to Zelda and the champions in botw. never actually about himself, it is a little sad.

You're absolutely right. I only realized the way the memories were centered a few days ago and thought it should be addressed. However because I didn't put it together til now neither did reader.

Wild/ botw Link and his memories have been somethings I thought about so often. He has no idea about his family, his hobbies, his dislikes, he only remembers a duty and maybe a few friends tied to that duty.

Reader is out here remembering about the chain which is great! Every Link has loved Reader deeply and been good to them! But like... that have no other memories. No idea of their friends or pasts or fears.

First is absolutely around! He's finally been given freedom but unfortunately Orville said 'my turn' so... yeah

I haven't really thought about it. Professor Oak would look after them and allow Shadow to swap between them if he does catch more. After all, the hedgehog trusts the man the most.

definitely worth the wait, also their definitely talking about cia, because the only other sorceress's i know in legend of zelda is twinrova, veran, and Lana. Twinrova can make portals but not ones that can cross dimensions and veran can't do it without nayru and she can only make time portals. And Lana would never do that. Plus cia was the one who sent a monster to kill wars soulmate.

Also it never occurred to me that cia could possibly manipulate portals in a way that certain people can't pass through, very clever

But I also have to say im rather surprised cia would help dark and onyx since she had a redemption arc in hyrule warriors after being rescued by Lana and king daphnes, let go of her obsession with link, helped destroy wind waker phantom ganon, then went to live with Lana in peace.

Did they threaten or blackmail her? Or perhaps convinced her that she could make up for her role in readers death in the past by making sure this reader didn't return to hyrule and die again?

So there's two answers to the 'why is Cia helping' question.

The official answer: Cia here isn't from the end of the game because portals mean time doesn't have to he linear or follow one pattern.

The honest answer: I haven't finished Hyrule Warriors and in avoiding spoilers managed to kiss the redemption arc. So... whoops? Although the Cia in the story was never exactly the Canon ending Cia anyway so it works.

I always figured they could manipulate who goes through portals because otherwise, you risk some poor kid stumbling through? I'm always just making my own rules, though, so who knows the Canon answer.

what inspired you to write your story

That's a good question!

I'd been listening to the epic soundtrack and Would You Fall In Love With Me Again and I thought 'hmmm that's be a good concept for a story the Links are always changed by their adventures.'

Then I was thinking about soulmates later that day and my brain smushed them together and I was like 'Yeah actually that sounds great love me some tragic soulmates that can break the cycle'

And from there I started daydreaming ideas and writing idea posts here and writing scenes. Some of my first scene ideas have made it into the story while others will probably never fit in but that's okay because they still lead to the story you know now.
