Remembering Sunday by All Time Low is incredibly Wits-coded (specifically reminds me of Legend, but it works for pretty much everyone)
I can SO see this especially after everything.
Also I don't know how many of you know it because it was in a commentary? Post? Not the main story really but Legend WAS going to ask reader to marry him! He had the ring! He just never got to.
I have to go listen to this and stare at my wall for a while now
Wait I saw you post about a dream where multiverse or whatever tell is more about this alternate universe where Legend, Myrah, Marin, amd Ravio are together?
It was so weird but the more I think about it the more intrigued I am?? Like literally so fun? So strange? Myrah and Legend have entered the 'idk what they are but they're important to me' category.
Legend, Ravio, Myrah, and Marin are all together but it was a long road to get there. Iirc Ravio and Myrah got together first during the war and they'd had feelings for Legend and later Marin they come home and coax Legend into joining them. Marin shows up and Legend starts date her while Myrah and Ravio try to decide what they want? Myrah and Marin start dating next and Ravio and Marin last.
They are so sappy? And in love?
Legend is just over here like 'damn okay lively redheads and alt twinks are my type??'
I don't think they ever have kids though. While Myrah Wild/Link and Flora/Zelda do eventually I don't know of Pegend could ever feel safe enough to want kids and tbh the others are all okay with that.
I kind of want to write for this now?? Idk still very much love Botw/Totk Myrah and she will always be the ""cannon"" version but still
idk if this is controversial or not, but I really like when non-professional writing like fic has hints of author bleedthrough when it comes to like, what different people assume is common knowledge. Like sometimes I’ll be reading a fic and it’ll just be obvious that the person writing it is either obsessed with medicine or has been to medical school, because they’ll use terms that are just a shade too technical without explaining them. It’s never the super specific stuff that they’d know other people are unaware of, it’s always the things that once you’ve known it for a while you forget it’s niche knowledge. It’s fun because as a fanfic reader it reminds me of how this is a fun hobby community, where everyone has their own thing going on outside of fandom. Everyone’s got their own specialties and they can’t help but write that into their work sometimes
Wild comes back after a month away according to the chain and years for him. He just smiles at Myrah when she fusses and has to remind himself this Myrah is still too young to know they finally got their collective shit together.
He's different, everyone knows it, but he can't help it.
He also can't help how often he is openly staring at Myrah.
She's beautiful of course, she always is, but she's still closer to hylian than not. She lacks some of the traits she will gain that Wild so adores... and yet she posseses things he thought were gone.
"Trouble?" Myrha asks from across the fire.
"Yes?"
"You're staring again," she says with a smile.
"Just... thinking," Wild says.
"What's on your mind?"
"You," Wild smiles before he remembers this is not his beautiful wife but the version who hadn't even seen the light dragon form of his other stunning wife.
"Me?" She snorts.
"Yeah, just... thinking your hair is different now than in the future."
Myrah scoffs at him. "Bullshit."
"Just... You're younger is all."
"Enjoy it while you can, Trouble, I'll be older than you again in no time."
Wild smiles at her, "I hope so."
"You almost sound like you love her," Myrah snorts but her voice is strained and gives her away.
He hates that.
Wild hates how easily Myrah dismisses the idea of being loved.
"You're my best friend, no matter what happens that's constant," Wild says because that's the best he can do without ruining the future.
She smiles at him in a way that fools everyone else, "I know. You and me, Trouble. I told you that a hundreds times already."
"You and me," he agrees.
He wants to do more to soothe her. He wants to tell her that if she can just wait a few years, she can have the world and everything she wants. He wants to tell her that he loves her so much, and so does Zelda, and they're all just stupid.
He wants to, but he won't. He's not allowed.
So, Wild just grins at her and promises himself to spoil his Myrah when he gets home.
If you close your eyes (like nothing's changed at all)
6k words of Calamity seeing Myrah again featuring the chain.
They make me ill.
(Aka: Calamity pined for 4k words, Wild has feelings, and Wars has NO IDEA what is happened)
The familiar laughter of a young woman that Link knows is dead and gone is enough to stop him. He freezes in the middle of a trail through the forest, ears twitching as he tries to pinpoint the direction.
His heart beats too fast. His mind races.
He is supposed to be searching for a rare plant on behalf of the princess, but that hardly matters now.
Zelda will understand if he tells her he heard the laugh.
There's another laugh to the left.
It's a perfect match for the laugh that haunts his dreams.
Link takes off running towards the laugh.
He has to see her. Even if it is only her ghost.
He has to tell her he is sorry. He has to tell her she was right about him taking on too much. He has to tell her what she means to him.
He has to ask if she's happier on the other side.
He has to ask her why she chose Revali. (He has to ask her if he can choose Zelda or Revali or maybe both.)
He sees her then.
Not a ghost by any means.
Myrah is there, alive and laughing against all odds. (She always loved beating the odds.)
She's even more breathtaking than Link remembers.
She stands so that all Link has is a side view of her.
Her hair is shorter now, held in a braid, but she is otherwise unchanged beyond some new scars.
Her face - at all angles - will forever be burned into his memory. He could never forget her.
Not even if he wants to.
Link - for all his courage - freezes. Training and fear catch up with him right as he breaks the treeline.
He stills completely, breath stopping.
For one moment, his traitorous heart swells with the urge to run to her and hug her as tightly as he can.
He does not.
Knights and heroes do not act so brashly. Gentlemen do not act so tactlessly. Nobility dosen’t act so familiar with anyone save their spouse and children.
But Myrah does. She's vivacious and memorable. She ignores protocol whenever she likes, often to help him. Despite her rank as both a knight to the princess and part of the Gerudo Chieftan family, she has done what she wants her whole life. (Link thinks that's part of her charm.)
There are nine males with her, and for a moment, Link feels something thick and hot rush his blood.
Have they hurt her?
Do they plan to use her?
Link has not known many men to be so heavily armed and good. (His father certainly wasn't.)
He watches the shortest notice him, the smallest man motioning over to him.
The others turn, one by one, they all stare at him with varying emotions across their face.
He keeps his face carefully blank, a mask he adores in times like these. After all, you can never give anyone access to your weaknesses.
Link dosen’t focus on naming emotions of strangers, He focuses on Myrah.
She's even more beautiful than he remembers. He noticed it before, but it strikes him again.
Myrah turns, shoulders hitching and eyes widening as she sees him. She chokes off a little half sob, and she starts to shake just a little.
"What the fuck?" The youngest asks eloquently. He sounds a little bit like he's from a seaside town.
"Language." The tallest man hisses.
Link just stares at Myrah, taking in every new scar and the new hoops in her ears. The piercings are gold, of course. She only wears gold.
"Mother fucking- Din's tits." Myrah breathes out, impertinent as ever. Voice shaking around the words.
Link is rather inclined to echo the sentiment, if only in his mind.
Her voice is like a balm to his soul. Something settles in him.
"That isn't who I think it is." The man in the scarf cape mutters.
Then, Myrah breaks into wet laughter. She stalks forward until she is before Link, towering over him as she stares down.
As if he is her prey. (He can't say he minds.)
"You are - the absolute worst." Myrah says weakly, "You stupid fucking asshole."
Link chokes on his breath. Being the sole focus of her attention is something he can't bring himself to shy away from.
Her voice is like cool water in the middle of the desert. The words lack any venom or animosity.
He isn't sure what she's on about, though. He isn't the one who died.
He feels himself tilt his head just a little in his confusion.
Link doubts anyone would ever notice a three degree head tilt.
"You know exactly what I mean, or did you forget about almost dying and leaving those girls without you?" Myrah scoffs, reaching out to cradle his face anyway.
Her hand is gentle, callouses a familiar pressure against his skin.
Link leans into the hand that cups his face a little, letting the warmth of it seep into him as the cool fall breezes blow past lazily.
He catches himself and decides that he can afford to stay leaning into it. He has missed her very much, and she would never harm him.
His face is still kept blank, even as he leans into her hand. He can't let appearances slip any further than they already have.
Ever.
(Not even for Myrah. Not even as he leans into her touch and marvels internally at her warmth.)
He's already let them slip too much.
He dosen’t bother asking why she knows about the almost dying. That dosen’t matter when faced by the overwhelming fact that she is here.
"What are you doing here?" Myrah asks finally.
Link dosen’t know. He dosen’t have his voice or his hands ready to answer.
He reaches up and grabs her wrist with one hand, fingers over her pulse. He shouldn't do it at all, but he supposes he can play it off as a reaction to being touched instead of the desperate need to feel her pulse.
Myrah's heart beats steady if a little fast. Even a little fast he recognizes it as her heartbeat, it's almost entirely her.
Little sparks of shadow and electricity hum just under her skin, stronger than he remembers her magic but it's so undeniably her. It's like a summer night thunder storm with wind singing in the trees.
Link stares up into her eyes, transfixed in the depths of molten gold he had once believed eternal.
She sighs softly, "You shouldn't be here, kit."
He stares up at her, tilting his head ever so slightly. What is she talking about? He has never needed to be anywhere else.
It's a shame it took losing her for Link to realize how deeply he craves to be beside her.
She sighs, slow and heavy. "Welome to the quest, I guess. We're hunting an evil shadow."
That's - one of the stranger things he's heard. Even from her.
Evil shadows?
"Please tell me you don't have a pre-calamity Wild." The scarf man sighs as he walks over."
"I don't. This is an alternate from a world where Ganon was defeated sooner." Myrah explains, as if this is a normal thing to say to someone.
Maybe it is.
"Is that why you look like you're going to crack?" The strange man asks with a raising brow.
Link turns his gaze to the man. How dare he speak to Myrah like that? How dare this man open his mouth or even think disrespectful things near her?
How dare this man act like he has a right to Myrah's vulnerability?
He clenches his jaw, far more revealing than he should ever allow, but in the moment, it is that or doing worse.
The man raises a brow, "Stand down, soilder."
Link tilts his head very slightly, looking the man over, searching for any usable weak point -
Myrah flicks his ear, "Absolutely not."
Link flicks his gaze to her with the slightest furrow of brows before his brows fall back to their previous neutrality. He forces his jaw to relax.
She just fixes him with a look he dosen’t remember her having. It's all challenge and disappointment.
He blinks and takes a slow breath.
"So far, all I've heard you call him is asshole and kit. He needs a nickname." The scarf man sighs, sounding like he dosen’t want to be involved.
"Warriors - Viper...." Myrah says, looking to the man with a frown. "Please."
Her voice cracks, something achingly fragile.
Link lets his lips jerk down for a second, squeezing her wrist softly where he still holds it. He can fix it, whatever is wrong. She dosen’t have to bear whatever is upsetting her alone.
The term of endearment is off-putting, Link knows her. He knows she dosen’t let people call her things like that...
Myrah's shoulders relax. "Thank you."
"Go on." Warriors nods back to the group.
She turns her gaze back to Link and offers a cracking smile. "Cap here is going to handle things. I'm going to go see about finding some truffles for dinner. Be good, hm?"
Link narrows his gaze a little, tightening his hold on her wrist. She can't leave him!
Not again!
Myrah pulls her wrist from him slowly, "I'll be back."
Link hates that phrase. He hates it the most in her voice.
Warriors steps between Link and Myrah.
The strange man stands as if protecting her!
Link has to stomp down the urge to sneer. He would never hurt Myrah.
The very idea is enough to nausiate.
Myrah turns, walking towards the group and grabbing her scimitar before going off into the woods alone.
"So... I guess I should start by explaining that everyone here except Myrah is someone who weilded the master sword." Warriors says, crossing his arms.
Link just stares. He knows better than to shove the man aside, as much as he yearns to.
"You'll need a name. We're all named Link. I'm Warriors."
Link nods once in acknowledgment.
"Any suggestions?"
Link shakes his head once. He has no input. He's never been too good with naming things, and he has other things to focus on.
"Okay. Well for now we'll call you soilder."
Link thinks that's a rather uncreative name but it fits. He is a soilder...
"You do know that isn't your Myrah, right?"
Link nods once more. However, Myrah is Myrah, no matter what. Just because she is from the world that Riju is from dosen’t change who she is! Their worlds split at the calamity, so that's just his Myrah older than he remembers.
Link allows himself to he lead to the group. He allows himself to be introduced to the others.
His eyes linger on the one called Wild. The man has long hair and plenty of scars- but he knows that face. That is his face under the scars.
How strange.
Myrah comes back an hour after she left. She immediately goes to the one called Warriors to talk.
Link watches her. He tries to make sense of all of this...
He notes her tense shoulders and how she stands as if she may bolt at any moment. He watches the way her face is kept carefully neutral.
His hands itch to go rest on her arm in silent reassurance. He wants to repay her for all the kindness she's given him at his worst.
He wants to soothe her.
Myrah smiles at something Warriors says, shoulders relaxing a little.
Link breathes out slowly.
He watches as Myrah goes about preparing a familiar rice bowl with truffles, something warming in his heart. He knows that rice bowl. He taught her how to make it.
When he's given a bowl of the food, he gives a nod to Myrah.
She smiles back. "Eat, little one."
He nods. He will absolutely eat anything she makes.
"You gonna sit with me or not?" Wind asks the woman.
Myrah snickers, "I'm coming, sea pup."
Link snorts once. She never did start using people's names often did she?
He watches her join the youngest, and it's almost like looking at a different picture. It's almost like watching her with his own sisters.
Myrah lets Wind talk about some sort of island game and Link just watches her.
She ruffles the kid's hair, let's him playfully swat at her, and generally encourages his fun.
She has always been so good with kids.
"So... You know Myrah." Time says as he sits by Link.
Link gives a nod.
"She... Spoke of you."
Link watches him, waiting.
"In the war, she spoke of you."
Link's brain stills. Myrah was in a war? When did that happen? That doesn't -
She shouldn't have ever been in a war.
For all he fighting ability she isn't a soilder at heart. Myrah is a fun-loving nurterer at heart.
"We're calling newbie soilder." Wind says.
"Absolutely fucking not." Myrah snaps like thunder.
"Why not? He is a soilder." Legend raises a brow.
"I'm not getting into this today but you are not calling him soilder." She says sharply.
Link watches her, wondering what her objection is. He won't argue either way.
"You call Wars Captain." Legend rolls his eyes.
"That is different. Wars dosen’t have the same issues with his title."
"It's not even a sign or respectfrom her half the time" Wars sighs, though he looks fond enough.
"Then what should we call him?"
"Call him Calamity, that's this title anyway." She waves off.
"Really?"
"I'll call him Cal but yes." She waves off the issue.
Link narrows his gaze minutely at the untouched portion of food she has. He knows her, he knows she isn't eating and if she dosen’t start soon she won't eat dinner at all.
"Eat." Wild chides her from across the fire.
Link wants to hiss, he does not because that is not what a proper knight does but he wants to. This version of him that succeeded on his own dose need to save him.
Myrah looks over to Wild at the single word and she gives a weak smile. "Okay, Trouble."
She does eat, slow and unenthusiastic but she eats.
Link - Calamity now he supposes - can't help but marvel at how little fight the woman put up. At how easily she follows the singular command.
He's never known her to listen so easy to anyone but... him.
Wild is him though, isn't he? Wild is the better version that speaks easier and will show emotion.
Someone presses a mug of tea into his hands, he looks up to see Myrah.
Oh.
Calamity lost track of time again.
He nods at her.
"Anytime." She says. "You look like you need it."
He can smell the tea this close, mint and chamomile. The smell sends a pang straight through his heart, just like always.
His mother's blend of tea, something only Myrah and Calamity's sister Callie have ever been able to recreate.
Calamity gives her a soft smile, although like every other facial expression he's given it is slight and barely there.
"Yeah... I've yet to find a better blend for mint." She shrugs, sitting next to him.
Link takes a sip ofbthe tea, finding it yet again perfect.
It soothes him in ways he shouldn't need. But it's a piece of his mother, and every piece he can find of her is precious.
"How are Callie and Arie?" She asks, voice soft and fond.
Link uses his free hand to sign, 'Okay but they miss you.'
"I miss them." She smiles, "But I had a long time with our girls."
Calamity raises one brow just a little.
What does that mean?
How old is she?
"They lived a long time, but death gets us all in the end." She explains, something between grief and pride drips from her words.
Calamity let's his lips twitch upwards. At least he knows his sisters were loved and protected.
He would trust her with his sister any day. He would trust her with his child if he were to ever have one.
She smiles a little more bitterly this time. "They wanted to name their sons Link."
He lets out a soft huff of air through his nose. Barely audible. The very idea of that - especially in a group like this one is horrible.
"Mh, of course I told them absolutely not. With the way things were, it was tempting fate."
Calamity has to agree. It's very sweet of them to want to do that, but it seems risky.
"That was a rough one, but they came around. Maybe it was mean but I just couldn't let them do that."
He nods once.
Myrah gives a shaky laugh. Her gaze training on the fire. "After knowing four Links ... I couldn't watch a fifth."
Four Links?
Four?
Calamity can't make sense of that one.
"Anyway it was a whole production and I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that Arie told me I was overeacting and being a 'fucking jivapta'." Myrah waves off with a little bit of a laugh.
He gives a soft, barely there snort. Of course Arie did she was always such a free spirit and self-righteous thing.
Myrah turns her gaze to him, eyes haunted in ways that make him want to pull her close and fight away any monsters for her.
"They grew up into such good, strong women... I'm not there in your world to take care of them... But they don't need me in your world. They have you." She smiles softly.
Calamity takes a slow breath. He dosen’t like where this is going.
He dosen’t like that she is implying that she's worth less to his sister than he is. She certainly isn't.
"Take care of them for me though? They deserve to be happy in every world." She requests this as her eyes grow misty, grief and fondness mixing with resignation in them.
Calamity gives a sharp nod. Of course he will. Those are his sisters.
"Thank you. One more thing? If they meet anyone named Orana and Ben, encourage that for me."
Calamity can't say why she asks that but he can certainly do it for her. She always has her reasons.
He nods once again.
"I heard you met the new champions. Riju, Tulin, Teba, Yunooboo, and Sidon told me a little." She offers warmly. "I'm so proud of them you know."
Calamity lets his lips tug upwards for a moment. He knows, he can tell in her voice.
He remembers meeting them. He remembers watching them find out his world had lost Myrah.
He remembers meeting Riju and Tulin, seeing pieces of her in them. Riju's laugh and Tulin's penchant for gold both scream her name.
"Do you have a bedroll?" She asks.
Calamity shakes his head once.
"That's fine. I have an extra you can use." She says, standing. "I'm going to go collect some fireflies. The extra bedroll is in my slate when you want it."
He nods.
He dosen’t ask what she's running from. He dosen’t ask her to stay.
Link knows her well enough to know when she's running away. He knows she needs space.
Once, though, Link was where she would run away to.
-------
Calamity and Time are the only ones up when Myrah comes back, and he nods once to her.
Time looks to her and waves once. "Hey, princess."
"Sapling." She says.
She gives a soft smile, coming to sit by Calamity's bedroll without a fuss.
Calamity looks over to her, and he examines her for any hint of mood.
Myrah turns her gaze to the fire, "You should've seen their weddings, little one."
Calamity dosen’t asky who she's speaking of, he has a very good guess.
"You know I almost cried walking them down the aisle? Purah gave me so much shit. I blamed wearily silver."
Link immediately pinches his brows before they fall back to neutral. Myrah walked his sisters down th aisle?
Myrah worse silver despite her allergy to it?!
"Don't worry I only wore the silver for the ceremony, and promptly took it off," she waves off. "For the reception I was in gold."
Calamity just lets his lips twitch upwards for just a second.
"They were beautiful, and so happy. They both wore your mom's necklace."
He swallows hard.
"I have pictures, maybe if we go to my home I can show you."
He nods once. He would love that.
She smiles, sad and nostalgic. It feels like the soul's sour candy. "You know Riju and Tulin told me about you?"
Ah. Yes. Calamity remembers them.
He remembers the two well, both if them have pieces of Myrah weaving into them.
Riju has Myrah's devious grin and the woman's little knife twirl when bored.
Tulin has Myrah's preference for gold and insatiable thirst for knowledge.
"They told me you were a stick in the mud who had a deep attachment to Zel and you only came alive for her and our girls."
Calamity feels the urge to protest but he does not. He stays silent, instead he just gently taps his elbow to her side.
A reassurance they came up with years ago. A promise he's trying.
"Do you know how many times I lost you, kit? How many times I mourned you?"
Calamity swallows hard. It's not - he dosen’t know what she's talking about.
"Hundreds. I lost you to that sword, then your duty, then Ganon. I lost you when Callie and Arie died, I lost you in every too-young soulder I buried in the war..." She speaks with a slow heavy weight. "I'm going to lose you again, and I don't know how many more losses I can handle."
Calamity's swallows hard. He taps his elbow to her side, looking up at her. He needs her to stop. He needs-
"Just - can you answer one question for me?"
He gives a sharp nod. He'll do anything for her!
"Are you mad at me? For moving on with my life?"
Calamity could shake her! That is the dumbest thing she's asked in years.
"No," Calamity breathes out in a quiet and cracking voice.
He hasn't spoken in weeks... but he needs her to believes him.
Myrah looks to him with widening eyes. "I -"
She gives a bitter laugh. "Okay."
Calamity sets his hand on her hand gently.
"I won't be mad at you for having a life without me either." She says firmly.
He looks up at her, trying to find the words...
How can he move on?
How can he find a life now?
She smiles a little. "It gets easier...you learn to live with it."
He knows she's right but it still feel insurmountable to do so.
Myrah gives a small, sad smile "Was my funeral Gerudo or Hylian?"
Calamity's huffs softly. Of course she wants to know.
She always wants the morbid details.
Calamity taps her gold arm band in answer.
She snorts, "Good. Was it nice?"
He does roll his eyes.
"Fair enough." She sighs.
Calamity nods towards Time, hoping for the story with that one.
Myrah smiles as her body untenses, "Sapling? He's my brother. I met him in the war, he was such a little thing."
Calamity aises one brow, looking between his friend and the other man.
"I wasn't that small I was a child and you're giant." Time calls lightly.
Myrah laughs, "Sure."
Calamity jerks his chin to Wild next.
She looks over and her whole demeanor warms. Her smile turns soft and almost shy (for her). "Trouble?"
Calamity tilts his head ever so slightly. He wants answers about the name and everything else.
"He's my best friend, and probably the only person who can handle me and Zel when we're down a rabbit hole." She shrugs, "You know how I get, all fixated."
He gives a nod. He knows how she gets. How could he not?
Until recently, Calamity was one of very few people who could pull her back from her focus.
"You know Trouble came into my life like a group of fire keese? He came in and helped me start living again, blew up a lynel just to prove a point," Myrah says softly.
Calamity supposes that's a good reason for Trouble to be Wild's name from Myrah.
He hates knows she suffers grief so deeply. He wishes it were still as easy to fix her problems as it was when they were little.
If he could just pull her into a hug and sing or tell her it's okay and things would be right again like they were back then.... it would be so nice.
"You know, you always said ID have to start writing my own reports," Myrah grins, "But even as Lieutenant I never did."
Calamity could almost laugh. For all he says such things he never means it. Not for her.
He would write her reports until they both are dust.
'Lieutenant?' He signs with a slight frown.
The very idea of her being so high up in the army is absurd.
"Well, yeah, in the war I was promoted a bunch."
"War?" Calamity croaks.
"Mh, I was taken through a portal to a war. Long story really, but hey, I officially outrank James! I was a first Lieutenant."
Calamity cracks a weak smile.
That is a nice thought.
"Did I tell you what an ass I made of myself when I met Cap?"
-------
Wild wakes to the smell of breakfast cooking, eyes landing on Myrah where she makes a large batch of scrambled eggs.
He can see the hitch of her shoulders and her deep eye bags. That's never good.
He knows her, he knows the way she looks when her mental state takes a spiraling dive.
Wild knows that yesterday is going to have consequences. He knows she's going to be thinking too fast.
"Myrah?" He croaks.
Myrah looks over with a cracking smile, "Hey, Trouble."
He frowns, rubbing at his eyes quickly before looking over to her again.
She looks like she hasn't slept since the night before last, shoulders tense and smile too wide.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
Her smile falls off her face, and she gives a bitter laugh. "I'm not convincing, am I?"
"No."
"I... couldn't sleep. My mind wouldn't stop racing." She sighs, looking to the side.
"Is it - Calamity?" Wild asks.
"Yes and no. Seeing him brought up a lot that I'd put to bed. I miss my family, Link. The family that knew me before I started breaking."
"I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault. I'm sorry I dumped that on you."
Wild rolls his eyes. "You stated a fact you didn't dump it all on me."
Myrah snorts. "If you say so. How are you doing?"
"I... don't know. I used to be Calamity..."
She nods once, "You did."
He looks into the cooking pot, watching the scrambled eggs move about as they are stirred. "You miss him."
"Sometimes."
"I'm sorry. I- I will never be him."
"Good. I don't want you to be him." Myrah says, turning her gaze to him.
Wild freezes. He- was expecting something else. Something less convincing.
She's never told him to change but to hear out right that she doesn't want him to is... something.
Hearing that from her seals something raw and cracking in him, a relief he can't say he knew he needed.
He wishes he could have her conviction, he doubts so much...
Myrah nods with a soft tug of her lips, "Of course I do."
Wild tilts his head, watching her. "Other people want me to be him."
"Some." She says.
She dosen’t say anything else on it, though her tone says more than enough.
Her lips purse at the thought, something sour seems to weigh her shoulders.
"He was your best friend."
"Honestly? I think he was sick of me," she waves off with a shaking laugh, "I was annoying and disruptive. Besides, even if he wasn't sick of me... He was not okay. Becoming that knight did things he never recovered from." She gives a half shrug.
"Oh."
"You know I wouldn't trade you for anything, don't you?" Myrah asks gently.
Her eyes are full of conviction and admiration.
Her voice is steel and yet it is soft. Her words are warmth.
Wild nods. "I know."
It makes his heart warm that he genuinely believes her. The warmth that she radiates is the calmest thing he's ever felt.
Even when she's ripping things apart with her bare hands or helping him with some wild stunt, he feels her gentle warmth.
It's almost terrifying at times, but he wouldn't trade it.
Myrah smiles, "Come eat, you need it."
Wild gets up, and goes over to her. He takes the food she gives him with a thanks and gets a smile.
Breakfast is a welcome distraction. It allows him to consider the taste and guess what she put in it. It allows him to eat something warm.
He sits up with her as the others begin waking up. They wander over for food, but Wild just focuses on his bowl.
He knocks their knees together for a moment, flashing a soft grin.
He does look over to Calamity when the knight gets his food, watching the gentle nod he gives Myrah. He watches the way the knight's lips tug ever so slightly upwards.
Strange.
The knight dosen’t react so much to anyone else. In fact, the most anyone else gets is Wind when the kid asks a question and Calamity gives two nods.
"You had better actually eat, Cal." Myrah chides gently. "I'm not sending you back home all withering."
Calamity gives the softest snort before sitting on Myrah's other side.
"So, you got a girl waiting for you back home?" Warriors asks Calamity.
Calamity stares the captain down silently. His face is blank.
Myrah snorts, biting back a smile.
Wild just leans into Myrah. He's so ready for more sleep, but for now he'll soak up her presence.
Pressing himself against her side is familliar and warm.
She wraps her arm around him, thumb rubbing over his arm idoly. She dosen’t say anything but she gives him a soft smile.
Moments pass as he lets her thumb rub circles into his skin.
Then she asks him, "Tired?"
He nods.
She hums. "Rest, Trouble."
Wild won't argue with that.
He closes his eyes, sure that she will keep watch. He has no fear, not here. Not with her.
"You just don't talk much, huh?" Hyrule asks.
Calamity dosen’t answer.
"No, he dosen’t." Myrah answers for the knight.
"Are you sure he knows you?" Wind asks with a grin.
Myrah huffs playfully, "That's enough out of you, sea pup."
Wild snorts.
"Does he ever talk?" Sky asks.
Calamity is still silent.
"Not often." Myrah says.
Wild... understands that much. Words get over whelming, silence is a comfort. You can't say the wrong thing if you don't talk.
He can feel his eyes shutting again, but he dosen’t care. He knows that here, with Myrah's arm around him, he is safe.
He feels his dishes taken from him as he drifts off.
After breakfast they all prepare for travel which is how Wild finds himself helping Twilight set up Epona. He can't stop watching Calamity and Myrah at any given chance.
He believes her earlier reassurances but it is so strange to see her with who he supposedly once was.
She has whole conversations when Calamity where he barely reacts. She knows him well.
She makes him wrap an injury Wild managed to miss.
How bizzare that he didn't notice.
Odder still is how Calamity treats Myrah.
Calamity is a stone faced knight who hasn't spoken a word. But with Myrah he's- objectively responsive. Yes, the responsiveness is subtle, barely there buy Wild sees it.
Wild sees it because he has a few memories and because he is a hunter.
He sees the barely there jerk of lips, the silent snorts, the barley there head tilts, and the occasional slight eyebrow raise.
He sees how Calamity dosen’t have any of these reactions to anyone else except Wind and that's hit or miss.
Wild can see how much Calamity truly cares for Myrah. How he can't or won't completely ice her out.
He can see his history that he only had faint scraps of in Calamity.
"Cub?" Twilight asks.
Wild turns.
"If we need to figure something else out, we can."
"No. It's just strange."
"I'm sure it is." Twilight nods.
Wild pats Epona's neck gently
"It can only go up from here." Twilight says, like a naive man who dosen’t know better.
Wild just nods. "I hope so."
"Kit I will drag your ass to Mipha, use a fucking fairy tonic." Myrah says as she crosses her arms.
Twilight and Wild glance over and see a standoff.
Calamity stands perfectly at attention, staring blankly ahead as if he dosen’t have a nasty gash across his forehead.
"When did he get that?" Twilight blinks.
Wild couldn't begin to tell you.
Calamity continues to stare Myrah down, but she just stands there with crossed arms and a raised brow.
"Are you going to make me take you to Callie then?" Myrah challenges.
Calamity grits his teeth, but does retrieve a fairy tonic.
"Good boy." She says with an eye roll.
Twilight frowns, "She's stubborn."
Wild smiles a little, "She really is."
Calamity takes the tonic before putting the empty bottle into his slate.
"You can have all the attitude you want, but we're not doing the thing where you ignore injuries." She says firmly.
Twilight snorts. "He dosen’t have anything but attitude."
Wild just nods.
-------
Warriors won't say he knows Myrah better than anyone else, but he knows her well enough. He has seen her lowest.
He isn't sure what to make of Calamity. The man is silent, stoic, and cold.
Warriors watches Calamity and Myrah, and he isn't sure why Myrah cares so much.
He sits, watching her with Calamity during dinner the second day.
"Kit, so help me if you don't stop making cow eyes at the fried rice. I'll bite you," Myrah says as she passes Calamity a second helping of dinner.
Calamity takes the bowl with a single nod before he starts eating in slow, polite motions that seem mechanical.
He dosen’t make any move to thank her or refute her statement.
"So... Calamity," Twilight says, "Do you have anything you like to do?"
Calamity turns his blank gaze to the rancher and stares silently.
Warriors frowns, watching the man.
"Oh, don't be like that," Myrah snorts as she taps Calamity's shoulder.
Calamity does not react beyond turning his gaze to the woman.
Them he raises one hand to finger spell his answer in sign. 'Archery'.
"And?" Myrah prompts.
'Horses.' Calamity finger spells.
Twilight nods, "Horses are good."
Calamity gives a single nod before he starts eating again.
Myrah rolls her eyes, "You should see him with his horse. He loves her."
"Calamity has a horse?" Wind asks.
"Well, of course. She's a sweetheart."
"Is her name Epona too?" Warriors asks.
Calamity looks to him with that stoic gaze.
"No, she's Bitney."
"Britney?" Wind blinks.
"No. Bit-ney," Myrah explains as if the pun of a name is beliveable.
Wild bites his cheek. "Did you name Bitney?"
Myrah rolls her eyes. "No. I said Kit should name her Freckles, but that was too on the nose."
Calamity gives a singular nod at that.
Warriors... dosen’t understand how Myrah and Calamity have ever been close.
Calamity barely reacts, and Myrah... well, she's always been more animated.
"Oh, you shut up," Myrah huffs as she gives a playful glare to Calamity. "You're just mad Princess Feathers likes me more."
"He... didn't say anything?" Hyrule ventures.
Calamity turns his stoic eyes to Hyrule. Silent as he stares.
"Kit," Myrah says, "You don't need to be snippy."
Calamity is pretty sure Myrah is having a one-sided conversation.
Warriors frowns again. "Princess, what are you on about?"
"Oh, he's being snippy," Myrah waves off.
"He's being silent."
Calamity turns that gaze back to the captain.
"He's been eyeing the bread," Wild says softer.
"You can always have more bread, Kit," Myrah snorts.
"What the fuck?!" Legend shrieks as the area swims back into view.
"I hate when she does that," Wind grumbles.
Myrah stands over Legend, body giving off sparks of electricity in rapid succession.
"It's so cool," Wild says simply, though his tone implies 'cool' isn't the original description in mind. He sounds awed and smitten.
"I think that makes it my turn!" Myrah declares at the sorcerer staring in horror at her.
The magic user fighting them stutters some denial or other and sends out another wicked bolt of lightning that should kill Myrah after the one she just took for Legend.
"Bad choice," Warriors taunts from where he struggles to stand.
Myrah laughs, warm and booming and a little predatory before she thrusts her hand out and lightning arcs from her fingers in a wicked set of bolts.
The sorcerer takes a direct hit, twitching as they fall to the ground.
"What the fuck?" Legend whispers.
Myrah turns around and her eyes are glowing as sparks still dance around her.
I have mever played the Yakiza games but my brother has and everytime I walk by some weird quest is happening. Feels very Zelda side quest eaque in that respect.
Hard-core gang video game? Maybe. But you also play DDR and race match box cars :)
the song come my way from the inuyasha anime, especially the English version song by Amalee makes me think about wits reader and the chain. Especially the " I knew then when we first met that you could be the one"," oh the stars they will guide you " and " in your dreams I will find you" lyrics work really well.
