Do the Novians think Pearl is ugly or is it in her head to think that? If I was a Novian, I'd be happy to be Pearl's friend growing up.
They're just spending some quality time together <3 Thank you for reading!! Novians do unfortunately think Pearl looks extremely weird and alien. Some find her ugly, some find her unnerving, some find her 'interesting looking' but mostly the response to her appearance is negative - sparking fear, ridicule, or disgust. There were some who found her genuinely attractive but most who'd comment 'positively' on her appearance were clearly like "I'm into your weirdo alien freak look" which didn't help.
To Novians Pearl is a weird thing with not enough limbs, too many textures, odd coloring, strange openings, and mysterious functions that can't quite communicate right and is trying poorly but wholeheartedly to imitate them. That on top of them being very isolationist as a planet was a recipe for Pearl to think of herself as incredibly, monstrously ugly.
You would have to sit through Olaan telling you at every turn that co's Pearl's BEST best friend /jealous but if you could endure it I think you could get in to the exclusive club of being Pearl's friend...Hakeem did! Thank you for your ask~!
