Sneak peak beginning of that witch hat fic I’ve been cooking.
You’ve loved animals since you were young, from unicorns to pegasus’, griffins to the odd phoenix, even a dragon or two. You’ve rescued more creatures than people, not for a lack of trying of course. It’s just sometimes the inability to understand another being is all that’s needed to form a stronger bond. Maybe to be understood is to not understand at all.
“As a witch it will be your civil duty to help the unknowing, four legged or not.” Your master once told you.
“The four legged ones don’t hold impossibly high exceptions against me.” You retorted, caressing your newly rescued friend, a quadryphon. You presume it must’ve fallen from its nest, its mother too distracted by its other little ones to notice a missing family member. At least you hope, the other possibility being it was abandoned. You hope that’s not the case.
It seemed to chirp in agreement, nuzzling its beak into the finger that gently smoothed its feathers down. You still haven’t decided a name for him, you don’t want to burden it with something, stupid or too on the nose, those are the most annoying pet names you think. Maybe something regal, or cutesy? But not too cutesy it takes away the mystic and beauty of such a majestic creature.
“And when all your animal friends leave you? What then child?” They smiled as bent down to fix where the hem of your cap laid on your head. It wasn’t condescending, your master was not the type to make a mockery of their students, no it was concern. They simply didn’t wish to see their sweet apprentice lonely in their future, talking to furballs instead of fellow humans.
“I still have Olly and Qi. I know that.” You hummed with certainty in its tunes.
