Ukrainian luger Olena Smaha shared a message in support of Vladyslav Heraskevych. After her run, she raised her glove with the words: ‘Remembrance is not a violation.’

The message followed the International Olympic Committee’s decision to ban Heraskevych from using his memorial helmet, created to honour Ukrainian athletes killed during Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Today, Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified from the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Not for doping. Not for a false start. Not for a technical violation on the track. The reason is the helmet. A “helmet of memory” with the names of Ukrainian athletes and coaches who were killed by the Russians on the orders of the Russian Hitler.🤬
