Last May I was asked to paint a piece for our local YMCA auction to help raise money for this and that. I wanted to paint a piece that represented something local. I also thought it would be a fun idea to post pictures of it’s progress over the course of the weeks leading up to the auction to showcase a “process”. It didn’t work. I ended up painting the scene twice and hated them and was embarrassed. So much so, I didn’t even let the person who paid for it, take it home. Something was really missing. There was no balance or rhythm in either piece and I felt like a 5th grade art student trying to slush a project together before the end of the period. I also realized, that was not my process. So, here we are, almost a year later. I’ve sat and starred at those pieces for hours. Loathing them. Adding to them. Changing the colors, adding lines, changing the style. The sky alone has been painted over 9 times in different ways. It has haunted me... Then, this morning came and I was looking at it and.... there it was. I saw what I needed. I saw what I wanted out of it. The rest, is paint.
