HAPPY BIRTHDAY PORKY!!!!
Henery Hawk: Ollie, get me a goblet from the pen, I feel like chicken tonight! Oliver Owl: You feel like chicken every night Henery.
I really enjoy reading your Looney Tunes headcanons! If you don't mind me asking, do you have any headcanons for the earlier Looney Tunes? (i.e. the Harman-Ising, pre-Porky Pig toons)
Off the top of my head I can tell you what I headcanon they’re doing now.
I haven’t looked them all up, so there may well be Toons missing.
Bosko + Honey - run there own restaurant called ‘Bosko’s’. They’ve run it since late 30′s and it’s now one of the most successful business’s in Toontown.
They got married [officially] in 1948 and invited a small selection of friends, among them Porky Pig.
Bosko is fairly easy-going [unless you flirt with or upset his wife, in which case all bets are off] and friendly and personable. In the restaurant he is the chef, being able to cook exceptionally well.
Honey is, likewise, friendly and personable and enjoys talking to people a lot. In the restaurant she is the one who ticks the guests off the guestlist when they arrive and tells the waitresses and waiters to take them to their table. [The official title of this role eludes me]
Foxy and Roxy - work as a waiter and a waitress respectively in ‘Bosko’s’. They got married in 1952 after a long courtship. Once again, Porky attended. Being, as they were, expy’s of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, they do there absolute best to stay away from them at all times. They are avid Disney-Haters and dislike anything and everything the company does almost on principle. This DOES NOT however, stop them being polite and friendly to the Disney Toons that go to Bosko’s as they recognise that being rude to paying customers is not the way to create a successful business. [Or keep there own jobs within said company]
Foxy - a jokester, fun-loving, very good actor. capable of taking on any role. Devoted to Roxy.
Roxy - Still joking and fun-loving, but noticeably more sensible than her husband. She is, likewise, devoted to Foxy but will tick him off [I.E. tell him off] if she feels he’s being to silly. She is a clever actress, particularly good at imitations. She also has a very good memory for names, faces and mannerisms, which comes in useful at the restaurant.
and finally:
Oliver Owl - after his last appearance [Plane Dippy] retired from acting to become a mechanic in his own business. [I.E. he used part of his pay check to set up the business, then hired someone else to oversee the running of it, as he couldn’t be bothered, and just worked on the mechanic side. His say-so is needed on things like bills, firing people and the like]
The mechanic business failed in early 1960′s. Since then Oliver has pottered around the world [Toontown World, not human world] visiting various countries. He particularly likes Australia [now the toons are allowed to GO to Australia] and regularly spends months there at a time.
Out of all of the older toons, Porky is closest to Oliver. This puzzles most of the LT’s, as Oliver is a notorious slacker, a bit tight with money and always upbeat and jolly. In other words, he’s as different from Porky as chalk and cheese.
All the studio stars :)
Warner Bros Shorts
I Haven’t Got a Hat (1935)
Quality: Super Bad
The cartoon that introduced the world to Porky Pig. It sucks. This cartoon was solely a vehicle to introduce new characters to the audience and see which of them stuck, and it shows. There’s no real plot, just a bunch of random characters showing off their personalities in front of a classroom. The only reason to ever watch this is for historical purposes - on its own it’s not remotely entertaining.
Y'know what makes me kinda sad? That there doesn't seem to be anyone talking about ollie owl and henery. I mean, they'd be such a cute couple and all that. Heck, their friendship is pretty cute in itself! If you open any classic lt comic and find henery, ollie is almost always there so fans of the classic must be aware of his existence. They just dont talk about ollie :(
It took me a moment to realize you were talking about Looney Tunes– sorry I haven’t been awake for long so I was confused for a moment. See, I think the issue tends to be that from the era those shorts came out, only Porky really went on to become a part of the LT lineup? (Heck, Daffy was introduced in ‘37, which was a couple of years after Porky and his other co-stars. And Bugs in 1940.) While I DO recall characters like Beans and Ollie Owl– I remember them more visually in design than I do from what they actually did.
Buuuuut, this is why it’s good to talk about them! See, I didn’t even know he appeared in classic comics alongside Henery Hawk! Which now makes me curious to see if i can find any so I can read and see why you like their friendship so much. I think it’s safer to assume in these cases that fans just don’t know characters exist– especially when most of the time Warner Brothers themselves only tend to show off shorts that involve their main lineup.
Does anyone remember any of these Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies characters from the 1930s, early 40s and late 60s?
