I finally surrendered

to deep sadness this week. I’d been holding it off for nearly 2 months.

Summer fading into autumn is helping with this. Especially today. I am grieving recent (and perhaps some past) personal losses. Today I danced and moved until my waters emerged, washed over and through me.

It had been well over a month since I’ve had a major release. I’ve cried all day and night. There were some nights this week that I truly did not believe I could get through the swamps of heart ache. But as I submerged and swirled my hips in rhythm, I remembered that I’ve crossed the sacred swamps before. The more I danced, the more I remembered that I Am movement. The more I danced, the more the murk slowly alchemized into fresh water. 💧. For Tlazoteotl, our beautiful, awesome, filth eating, transformative mother goddess.

For those of you also deeply struggling with transpiring grief, I find that intentional movement and flow practices help. Shaking, belly dancing, cumbia dancing, free styling, somatic stretches and breathing helps me personally.

Sometimes we need to re-learn and re-practice. Keep believing. Keep praying. Keep practicing. Keep dancing, singing, speaking, creating in honor of and offering to the gods. They give back, trust!
