It was comfortable inside Bag End. Warm and, more importantly, dry. Bilbo listened to the rain hitting the windows, leaning further into his armchair. He welcomed these rainy days, since it tended to keep most hobbits at home, meaning there wouldn't be anyone to bother him.

Anyone meaning the Sackville-Bagginses, of course.

So to hear someone knocking on his door startled the hobbit. Bilbo sat up upon hearing the sound, glancing back towards the entrance, doing little else but sit and listen. To think of the S-Bs and to then have someone appear on his doorstep so unexpected, in this weather no less, did not comfort Bilbo.

He waited and there came another knock, louder this time. He couldn't leave whoever it was waiting in the rain, now could he? He got up and quickly made for the door, opening it up.

"Gandalf!" to say that Bilbo was surprised at the wizard's sudden visit would be an understatement. He quickly stepped aside, allowing his friend to enter Bag End. "Goodness, had I known that it were you at the door, I would have answered straight away." Not just because of the rain, he admited. Gandalf's temper was hardly something you wished to set off.

"What brings you here on such a gloomy day?"

"Let’s have an adventure!" Gandalf exclaimed with that mischievous glint within those hues of sky blue.

Sudden appearances by the one and only Gandalf are not a rarity to the ranger, to say the least, not anymore. Only a jovial glimmer across his gaze to be reunited with the trustworthy friend; a bond of friendship made so easily with the elder. Caught and drawn to the knowing shine across the beady eyes of the wizened male, his own expression mirrored his own, imbued with curiosity as the ranger is roused from his idleness. Shifted away from the low row he had been seated upon, cradling a pipe full of the scented tobacco as he rose to his full height. “What sort of adventure then? More tracking? Hunting? Bonfire with a couple of trolls?” Responses brimmed with jest, but the enthusiasm and willingness is abundant. Always a mystery as to what transpire in that wise head of the wizard, always full of surprises indeed.
