The deliciousness of cake and donuts combined into one beautiful dessert is this ombre donut layer cake. It's a visual and gustatory delight with layers of cake in three different shades and glazed donuts.
Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup granulated sugar. 1/4 cup brown sugar. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp baking soda. 1/2 tsp salt. 2/3 cup buttermilk. 2 large eggs. 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1 tsp vanilla extract. Food coloring 3 different shades. 12 donuts assorted flavors. 1 cup powdered sugar. 2-3 tbsp milk. Sprinkles optional.
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 350F 175C and grease three 8-inch round cake pans. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Divide the cake batter into three equal portions. Add a few drops of different food coloring to each portion, creating three different shades light, medium, and dark. Mix until well-colored. Pour each colored batter into a separate cake pan and smooth the tops. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. Dip each donut into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off, and place them on a wire rack to set. Once the cakes and donuts are completely cooled and the glaze is set, assemble the ombre donut layer cake. Start with the darkest cake layer on the bottom and alternate with donuts and the other cake layers, arranging them in a visually pleasing ombre pattern. Decorate the top with additional glaze and sprinkles if desired. Slice and serve your beautiful Ombre Donut Layer Cake! Enjoy!
