Omega cloud is very dear to me.
Specifically in the “has a nest with more knives than pillows” and “has been known to mother chicks from the chocobo cavalry when close to heat” way
Omega Cloud whose nest is full of weapons and materia and stolen bits of armor from his friends (and specifically for post canon Vincent’s cloak). No one understands how it’s comfortable for him or how he hasn’t sliced himself open climbing in and out but if it makes him stop growling at them every time someone grabs a kitchen knife they are glad to let him do his thing.
Little infantry omega Cloud with a chocobo chick on his lap hissing whenever someone gets too close as he preens their feathers. He is being preened by one of the adult females. The rest of his squad is terrified they will get mauled by him or the birds if they try to pull him out.
For AGSZC specifically all of them having to bargain with Cloud to get their own weapons back when he starts nesting because “yes Masamune looks good there Cloud but Sephiroth really needs to go on patrol.” They are successful maybe 68% of the time. The rest of Shinra have learned not to comment on it if one of the Firsts comes to a mission wielding a standard issue sword after Genesis lobbed a Fira at them.
Turk Cloud stealing the other’s suit jackets and outright denying it. He is wearing Rudes jacket as he does. No one calls him on it. They all like living too much.

Maybe reeve’s betrayal happened close to clouds heat and omegas are biologically predisposed to internalize that shit like nobody’s business ?
Like a biological defense mechanism that originally formed to prevent omegas from ever trusting alphas that already betrayed them while they were vulnerable.
Try to use your scent to force an omega to relax after hurting them close to a heat? Sorry buddy that’s physically impossible now. Alpha commands? Null and fucking void. Only thing that’s gunna do is make them bitey and real aggressive.
God imagine how stressed Reeve would be about it. Like Cloud has forgiven him, even trusts him now as much as he trusts anyone in power, but there will always be a part of Cloud that sees Reeve as a threat. It would break something in him every time he saw those glowing eye narrow or Cloud pull away from his touch. It hurts even more knowing that he did this. That he deserves this. He was the one that openly broke Cloud’s trust and now he has to live with the consequences.
Cloud when not close to heat tells him he’s an idiot for putting so much weight and guilt on an unconscious response.
—
And also for this idea imagine Cloud panicking because after all the times Sephiroth has come after him there’s no way his inner omega can see him as anything other than a threat right? So how does Cloud keep falling for his Commands? How is he still controlled?
(Honestly finding out that Sephiroth was controlling Clouf through Jenova bullshit was far more comforting than the idea that he was some sort of Super Alpha genetically engineered to get around that instinct in particular)
YES YES YES HOLY SHIT YES
That made me just picture cloud wayyyy too close to heat stomping out of his room (maybe shinra just gives omegas their own?) and searching for more swords with blurry eyes because his nest just wasn’t comfortable. It feels wrong and he needs to fix it but no amount or rearranging has helped and that means he needs something new.
So cloud manages to get himself to the troopers armory and tries sorting through the weapons just for them to be dull edged and unbalanced. When he resigns himself to bringing back nothing he stumbles through the hallways and is all but hissing in frustration
Which is, of course, when he sees one of the most beautiful swords he’s ever seen strapped to the back of a very tall man.
Sephiroth watching in confusion as a little trooper, with eyes hazed with pre-heat, tries to take Masamune from his back completely unaware or uncaring that he is trying to steal from the Silver General himself in broad daylight in front of witnesses (a shell shocked Angeal and cackling Genesis). He is almost tempted to let the little trooper take it just to see what he does with it.
Then Zack comes down the hall frantic and worried to lure the little omega away with another sword
Sephiroth is more than a little in love.
The closest thing omega cloud gets to the comfort of before is the rough feel of tifa’s hand-wraps around his arms, the metallic smell of Barrett’s ammunition packs, and the half empty bottle of Vincent’s gun oil
(Maybe smelling yuffie or anyone else just makes him more paranoid because it feels like he has a pup to protect near him)
The others try to help, try to do whatever they can to ease the stress that arrives hand and hand with Cloud’s heats, but for some of them there’s nothing much they can do.
Cait is too small, too soft, too similar to the comfort he once sought and is now stifling, and Reeve is… it is difficult to get Cloud to relax around him on a normal day but his heat-addled mind can’t quite get over the fact that he betrayed them once. He settles for sending supplies to be set outside of Cloud’s door and tries to bury the hurt. He knows Cloud trusts him, knows it deep in his bones, but instinct isn’t always logical.
Yuffie, no matter how old she gets, will forever be a pup in Cloud’s mind. He can never let his guard down when she is around and he is in preheat. Can’t allow anything that may be a threat to get anywhere near her. He nearly snapped Reno’s arm from glaring at her during his last heat and that doesn’t even include everything he did to protect her when they were traveling. She hides her nerves behind teasing and laughs, but whenever Cloud comes back from his heats he finds trinkets and materia and gods know what else shoved into his pockets as she tries to take care of him back.
Nanaki is in much the same boat as Yuffie, honestly. From the moment Cloud saw him his instincts were going wild demanding that he protected the pup. He is the only one of their group that wasn’t shocked when his age was revealed, only nodding and moving everyone forward as best he could. He is Cloud’s first pup in a way, though he is content to be lumped in with Yuffie. He tends to stay just out of Cloud’s range sitting guard. Unwilling to let anything happen to his friend after he has already gone through so much.
The others can get closer, those that don’t carry the weight of past sins or are considered pups but Cloud’s instincts. Tifa can get the closest along with surprisingly (perhaps unsurprisingly considering how the two of them used to gravitate toward each other to keep watch and silently brood in each other’s company) Vincent. Cid and Barret do what they can but with both of them being bonded alpha’s they can’t offer much more than scented items for Cloud’s nest (never anything big. Never anything too soft. Little more than scraps of fabric that could be shoved in a pocket if cloud needed to move or fight. Both drenched in the scent of gunpowder and cigarette smoke to make up for the fact that they cannot offer blankets and pillows and kindness like they all so desperately want to.)
It kills all of them that Cloud can no longer accept comfort and gentleness in his nest, kills them that this of all things was taken from him to, but all they can do is do what they always have and be there for their friend in whatever ways he will allow.

OMEGA CLOUD OMEGA CLOUD OMEGA CLOUD
Cloud who still hadn’t presented when the whole Nibelheim incident went down (something he is later grateful for as the thought of what Hojo would have done to him if he had known Cloud was an omega at the time stars almost as prominently in his nightmares as the vague recollections of what actually happened to him) and as if becoming an eco terrorist and hunting a man he definitely kind of remembers already killing isn’t hard enough he starts feeling… weird.
It starts, perhaps predictably, with Tifa. With the two do them in her tiny apartment in Sector 7 saying everything and nothing as they both do the time honored Nibelheim tradition of not talking about their problems while also dancing around Clouds lack of memory. With Cloud’s hands (still smooth dispute his ease in wielding the Buster Sword. Enhanced healing is a bitch when it came to keeping callouses. He thinks they should still be there he isn’t sure why the fact that they aren’t fills his head with static) trailing over the softest blanket he has ever felt, reluctant to pull away. Tifa’s eyes go soft when she tells him to keep it. She won’t take no for an answer.
He doesn’t understand why he’s so upset at the loss of the blanket when the plate falls. He pretends that pressing his face against Tifa’s shoulder doesn’t help that ache.
Aerith smiles at him when she tosses a hoodie at his head when he’s playing her bodyguard. “You can’t sleep in armor silly!” The scent of her and something else soothing a part of him as he tugs it on. He doesn’t leave it behind when he sneaks out even though he knows he should. She doesn’t seem to mind, smiling when she sees it later in his pack and promising they can share custody of the sweater. He doesn’t think about how the thought of losing it sends a spike of fear down his spine.
Then everything is moving too fast to think about much of anything for a long time.
Red stares at him sometimes like he’s trying to solve a puzzle. Cloud doesn’t understand why.
He also doesn’t understand why on one of their trips into a town for supplies Barret steps in front of him with a growl when a man gets a bit too close. Instead he grumbles about being able to protect himself and pretends not to notice when a shirt that is far too large to be his joins his stash, as small as it is.
He doesn’t understand, not until they’re back in Nibelheim and they find a man asleep in a coffin. Until glowing red eyes look him up and down and the man announces to the whole team that Cloud is about to go into heat.
Cloud doesn’t understand. Tifa does.
Her hand grips his arm tight enough that if he wasn’t enhanced he was sure he would have bruised and makes him look down at her. “You went missing at sixteen, Cloud.”
It hits him then, the realization. Most people didn’t present until their late teens or early twenties. Between the mako messing with his scent and the lack of memories Cloud hadn’t noticed (hadn’t remembered?) he had presented.
It’s Yuffie that huffs out a shocked laugh. “Gods. He’s been nesting this whole time.”
Cloud pretends not to hear her. His blush doesn’t help in that endeavor.

Trying to be courteous to the people around him, he hides away his scent under a blocker. Looking on in jealousy at the pack of his friends growing larger, he keeps on telling himself that it's okay, they only care for Alphas, they just don't swing his way. And then Cloud joins their pack as an Omega and he can feel his heart break. Unbeknownst to him, Cloud joining the pack might be the thing that gives him the opportunity to join it as well.
