i think that percy and annabeth have a LOT of skin2skin contact. alway draped across each other, trying to sync up breathing and heartbeat and pulse, teeth digging into each others skin, full of anger that they'll never be the same person
(an accidental deep analysis with many assumptions made)
Hello guys! I’ll be honest, given how quiet I’ve been on this account, I’ve never actually expected myself to be posting something here once again.
Alas, I was trying to write a fic for K-pop demon hunters, was looking though photos of Rumi’s room in order to get a better idea of its layout, how it looks and you know, all that, and accidentally started noticing so many tiny details around her room I’ve decided to make a tumblr post about it despite the fact that I haven’t posted here in literal years.
Thanks a lot K-pop demon hunters, for single-handedly reviving this account and for even changing the type of content I post on this particular blog. (WDYM this isn’t an art post??!?)
Also before we begin, small disclaimer:
This is my own analysis and my own thoughts on things regarding the movie. I do not guarantee any assumptions made in this post to be accurate to what the film is trying to portray.
Now, without further ado, let’s talk about Rumi’s room, and how it reflects her character.
1. Rumi probably has a green thumb!
So, let’s start with the simple fact that Rumi has an L shaped balcony and an ENTIRE forest by one end of it.
As soon as I saw the sheer number of plants growing on her balcony, my brain immediately came up with the headcanon that she has a green thumb.
And I mean honestly? Having a green thumb would fit Rumi really well. Especially given her need to maintain control and her want for growth despite feeling stuck and unable to change.
Rumi’s always seen herself as part demon, and demons being the destroyer of things, it only makes sense for her to want to grow something instead, to proof to herself that she doesn’t destroy everything she touches, and that she could grow as well.
Also, plants are just relaxing in general, and Rumi could definitely use some greenery around to help calm herself down, given how she’s canonically a workaholic. The fact that she probably grew up in a rural countryside (where the tree and Celine’s shrine is) would probably also motivate her to keep more plants around, as they’ll probably remind her of her childhood.
She probably micromanaged and loved those plants in her room to the heavens and it shows. That’s not a garden that’s a fricking forest.
Now, moving on, let’s talk about the colour scheme of Rumi’s room.
2. Zoey and Mira are the colours in Rumi’s life 🥹
Rumi’s room boasts a very neutral colour scheme. Most of her room is grey and black, with splashes of pink and blue around to contrast it.
I think that the pink and blue in the room are supposed to represent both Mira and Zoey. The colours kind of fit them both, with pink representing Mira and the Blue representing Zoey.
The pink and blue being the dominant colours in the sea of grey, in my opinion, probably represent how Mira and Zoey are the main colours in Rumi’s life, which is really sweet honestly.
I also think it might have been a conscious decision to make the colours pink and blue specifically because they kind of make purple if you think about it :)
Also, if you look at what parts of the room are coloured Pink and Blue, you’ll realise that only Rumi’s relaxing areas (small chair and the bed) are coloured pink and blue! They’re also the only two areas in Rumi’s entire room that are slightly unkept.
If you ask me, I’ll go on a tangent and say that shows how Rumi trusts Mira and Zoey enough to let her guard down around them and rest!
Also, to add on to that point. Notice how beside Rumi’s two resting areas, her room is clean to a fault.
Her shelves are completely empty minus that one box of grape juice and her trophies on a table/shelf thing.
It screams perfection but Mira and Zoey allow her to unwind just a little bit and it shows in her room design I AM SCREAMING.
Which URGH I’m probably reading too much into her dang room but OMG I AM GOING INSANE OVER THIS.
3. Rumi’s goals and fears
Now, let’s talk about the black, decorative parts in the room.
My first thought when I looked at those decorative corners was OMG what if the black with golden patterns were supposed to represent her goal towards the golden honmoon, and the jagged edges her patterns and Rumi’s need to hide them??!?
They’re also only at the corners of the room which might show how she actively tries to represses her demon side by shoving it into the corners, and how it still creeps up on her anyway because they’re still a part of her!
Like, I don’t know guys, nothing like black and gold screams perfection to me.
And
Black and jagged: demon
Gold lines: golden honmoon
*insert more incoherent screaming here*
4. Teddy bears and choo choo trains.
Rumi has a teddy bear on her bed lol, which is really cute hehe.
And yes, it’s very possible Zoey and Mira have gotten that bear for Rumi, but I think it’s also really possible for it to be her childhood toy.
I’m not going to pick one over the other because I like both ideas hehe, but either way, I believe Rumi probably likes teddy bears a lot.
Firstly, teddy bears are a staple childhood toy, and made for one to hug. I personally headcanon Rumi to be relatively touched starved given her upbringing with Celine, which would probably endear her to a cuddly toy made with the sole purpose of being a form of comfort. Not to mention, teddy bears couldn’t care less about demon patterns or whatever, they just exist to give hugs. It just makes sense for Rumi to be bonded to one.
Secondly, I believe there was a scraped concept somewhere of young Rumi and Celine wanting to visit a teddy bear museum? The concept might have been scrapped, but hey it meant that it was considered at some point at least.
Thirdly, Rumi’s pants. You know, the ones with teddy bears and choo choo trains?
Choo choo!
I honestly doubt Rumi’s been given those pants by Zoey, despite how they look. The main reason behind this being how casually she threw those pants into the dustbin right after Jinu commented on them in the movie Xd. I doubt Rumi would have tossed those pants so easily if they had actually been a gift from Zoey.
(I keep forgetting she throws out teh pants LOL, but I get a kick out of it every time I remember)
So yeah, it’s likely that Rumi just really likes teddy bears, to the point where she just has one lying around the room despite how bare it is in general.
(Like, what do you mean her shelves are EMPTY?!?! (Save a singular box))
5. The closet
Ok now back to Rumi’s room. This is a random observation, but I find it very funny how you can see ONE piece of bright purple cloth hanging in Rumi’s closet among a sea of neutral coloured clothing. Like, omg Rumi is canonically in the closet about her patterns, especially at this point in the movie.
I am laughing so hard mentally at that lol.
I am probably 100% overthinking the closet detail but I can’t help it, it’s funny.
But yea! That’s my analysis on Rumi’s room! Thanks for reading this word dump lol.
Do feel free to share your own interpretations regarding Rumi’s room as well! I’ll love to read them!
