Faith restored in humanity!
Thank you!
Where do you get all your skyrim stuff for sims? I've never even heard of it it's amazing! I like your blog btw :-)
Omg thanks for liking my simblr!
And welcome to the Skyrim mania! XD
I’m publishing this, cuz others have asked me about this Skyrim-Sims conversion business as well. So here’s an in-depth rambling bunch of unnecessary blah blah, in case anyone’s interested in WHY I am half crazy and how it’s all Bethesda and EA’s fault.
I’ll be honest, when I first heard about the game (maybe 3 or so years ago) I was a Skyrim hater, cuz so many of my simming friends and CC makers ditched the sims community for Skyrim and never came back. I assume Alduin ate all of them. :P
But after Sims Medieval started getting compared to Skyrim a lot my curiosity was piqued and I realized there was a load of medievalish goodies EA should have given TS3 that I REALLY wanted in my own game. Took me a while to figure out how to extract game files — I learned how to extract from games like AMR first (that was HARD and I had to get a friend to send me a whole custom-made tutorial walking me through everything, let me tell you, and that helped me figure out game extractions in general) — but once I sorta figured everything out I was determined to Let There Be Dovahkiin! ^0^
All of the Skyrim/Hearthfire/Dawnguard/Dragonborn stuff was extracted through an annoyingly long-winded process due in large part to the Nifskope model viewer not working on my PC for some strange reason known only by the devil himself screwing with me, and Bethesda dividing all of their meshes in the dumbest folders and filenames on earth. >_<
Do you see this crap? 23,000! And that’s JUST the base game meshes – there are similar folders for the textures:
And EACH of the 3 Skyrim expansions has a similar setup. I have to trudge through this mess! It’s torture.
The Architecture & Dungeon folders have a lot of strange meshes, like parts of the different castles and buildings, chopped up into sections; it’s crazy. o_O Most of the decor & stuff I’ve given y'all so far came out of the Clutter & Furniture folders.Full of goodies. And those at least had pretty self-explanatory names, which helped, not named garbage like sbits and pieces.nif. No lie. That’s what one of the mesh files is called. >_<
I REALLY wish there was a secondary model viewer I could just click to browse through all the models in one sitting, but noooo~! Nifskope wants to be a jerk! (The day Noesis can load Skyrim models is the day I’m dying and going to heaven. It’s EASY to find meshes in AMR folders; it’s divided by Chapter: everything you saw in the Dollhouse chapter 5 can be found in the folder labelled Chapter 5. With Final Fantasy the folders are named even worse, but Noesis is such a smooth operation that it’s easy as sin! Dragon Age is a little trickier cuz I have to use 2 separate tools, but again: at least there’s a model viewer. I have NO such luck with Skyrim. It sucks. I literally have to open the files myself, look at them, and figure out what the heck I’m looking at – WITHOUT textures, mind you.)
But yeah, extracting all this crap really eats up storage space, which is why I have all my games on my external hard drive nowadays, to store the actual game installation AND the extractions AND all the CC-creating files.
I have to use 3ds Max (a 3d meshing program) and a plugin for it, as well as a few BSA extraction tools I got online, in order to get all the meshes and textures out of those folders, into 3ds Max, and back out again into Milkshape (*THE* 3d meshing tool used to create TS3 CC, which leads into getting everything into TSRW and thus into the game itself).
The cool thing about 3ds Max is that it tells me which textures are used by which mesh, even if it won’t automatically APPLY them for me – that’d be great T__T – so I can then go in the Textures folders and find the right ones. Then I use UV Mapper to remap the objects if needs be, manually assign the textures and get them situated in Photoshop to create the Multiplier and Mask and Speculars so they’re recolorable. When I’m feeling lazy I just leave them as-is, with just an Overlay - eff the RGB mapping. XP With the Armor/Clothes it’s way more annoying; I have to tweak the UVs in Milkshape to fit Sim bodies — which is when I start crying and y'all see me start screaming about blurriness and craziness, cuz sim bodies aren’t mapped like Skyrim bodies AT ALL. >_<
Speaking of which, how are those Forsworn Armor Accessories I gave y'all this morning working out for y'all? XD Blurred to death yet? Told ya sooo~~~ *headdesk*
So that’s me and Skyrim.
I swear, come 2015 I want to move on to different games, and move away from Skyrim, AMR & FF. As long as you can grab the extraction tools/programs/plugins (and the actual game, pfft) you can convert pretty much anything to The Sims. It honestly doesn’t take THAT long. *I* am just notoriously LAZY and I get sidetracked a lot and disheartened a lot and annoyed a lot, so I take week and month long breaks sometimes, or I forget, or I give up entirely. :P And like an idiot I decided to go back to college, so that eats into my time as well, which sucks. *SIGH*
But yeah! Thanks for asking!
Have I bored y'all to death yet? Scrolling past this on your dash at rapid speed? Sorry. I’ll shut up now. It’s near my bedtime anyways, and I haven’t simmed at all today (Midterms, urgh.) Ta!
