We found a job where I can help mom!!!!
I’m working on writing out some different types of commissions on ko-fi, and I wonder what people would be interested in, as far as comm options go. The only commission type I have open currently is fashion related, so that bit’s covered, as such:
What sort of additional commission types ought Annie consider?
Cheaper sketch arts (no/minimal rendering)
Romantic couple art option
Lineart only (for those who’d like to color their own comm)
Character concept art for OCs
Fanfic/ original story cover art
Fake screenshot art
Other? Suggestions in comments pls <3
Setting a rate can be a minefield for folks navigating an industry alone.

#1. Do not use your hourly salary at a full time job as your freelance rate #2. There is nothing wrong with missing out on jobs because of your rate #3. Count all the time you put in #4. If you have enough work, raise your rate
So I opened up commissions today on Facebook and I’m thinking of offering them on Instagram and tumblr too...only problem is I feel like everyone on insta and tumblr charge so little for their commissions that I feel like i would get ostracized just for charging what I would consider to be not even that expensive for custom artwork. So! If I were to offer commissions, and if they were to be starting at $80 (I would have to factor in exactly what I would be offering considering on FB I’m offering custom family portraits and I would probably offer something different here like a sketch tier and b&w vs color) but still, if I were to offer commissions here, do y’all think people would be interested? Or do you think they would be turned off because of the price??
me, lifting up my fingers: getou and hibiki commission, satoru and hibiki commission, nanami and hibiki commission, shoko and hibiki commission, baby hibiki commission, hibiki domain expansion commission, hibik
What do you like most about doing commissions? What makes a good client for you, and what makes you interested in doing a project for characters you might not know much about?
Oh wow! This is such an interesting question, dear anon! Well, the short answer would be - if I’m not asked to depict just someone standing there looking pretty, but rather core human virtues. That’s the thing I’m interested the most in - good qualities and powerful emotions.
It may well be one line of description like I got from my friend “this character acts aloof and grumpy but he’s secretly a mushy potato” and I’m sold already. Being given full artistic freedom with only a few images as aesthetics reference is sometimes fun too. The only thing that dampens my mood considerably, is being given 30 pages of extremely detailed character description with no emotional background for them. I get stressed out with having to keep track of so many visual traits and nuances and it sucks all the joy out of drawing process itself. But that’s my personal problem, not the client’s, to be honest, so I try not to let it sour our interactions. Clear communication and respect on both sides is key to successful work process, even if there are difficulties along the way, I feel. I have been very fortunate in having most of the clients being awfully nice and clear in communicating their requests though :)
Also, *cough*, if anyone leaves me a tip, they go straight into my ‘patron saints’ list of eternal appreciation *cough* :D
I haven’t decided yet but I was considering asking for a commission for some ocs. Um, do you know homestuck , hiveswap and hiveswap friendsim? If you do, do you do ocs from there?
I’m totally open to doing commissions of any ocs/fan characters/existing characters, regardless of their source! :D So long as you’re not using someone specific’s oc that they don’t want other people to use, I have 0 qualms. I don’t judge and I’m happy to bring any kind of character to life for you! <3
Also I’m pretty sure everyone who spends a decent amount of time on the internet knows about Homestuck to some degree, surely, heh XD I never properly got into HS myself, but I’m familiar with it & Hiveswap just as someone who keeps up with major trends & storytelling zeitgeist things.
