it's December and somehow my thoughts keep going back to you. like an old song i used to play on repeat; like a nostalgic taste on my tongue;like a worn out sweater I'm gonna wear again for the 10th winter in a row; like a book i keep that's coming apart just because it has that old book scent that reminds me of you; like the winter had never gone and stayed within a part of me saying you're not gone yet, even though I know you have. my heart grieves for you but in my mind you're still alive. there is always a war going on inside, a battle cry. I don't know who to believe, whose side to take. are you alive or are we just friends who don't see each other anymore? are you dead or are we just two ghosts? maybe it's just the December.

I have been too unmotivated/burnt out to draw or write but I've been thinking about TTRPGs meta and so I want to write about it
The problem I've seen pop out in long-form TTRPGs, (especially DnD and Pathfinder since those are the ones I frequent) is "oh woe, I haven't been able to finish ANY campaign!" and yeah, some of the time the problems are unexpected personal issues, but most of the time the issue is the old problem of Not Knowing How To Pace A Story and when to stop it.
Usually, most of your adult friends you play with are going to have a BROAD idea of when they're going to be able to hang out monthly and when workloads are too much or they have finals or whatever. And those hiatuses are the Campaign Killers, because once the habit breaks, it's hard to get them all back on board again.
Campaigns are LONG. Like, REALLY long. The one I'm currently playing in is 37 sessions long, and has been running for two and a half years, between once and two times a month. That's the dream, but let's be honest: in a regular group, a session is once a month or once every two months.
The answer to finish shit? Brother just pace it correctly. You know your group has summer available? Pace a story to be around 3 months long, 4-6 sessions. A year? 12 sessions can cover a shit load of ground and lore. It's extremely more satisfying for the group to start AND FINISH something short than to start another epic lvl 1 to 15 adventure that's going to wither and die 6 months into the campaign because someone is moving.
Not every group can handle more than a year of a singular campaign without hard commitment that not everyone can realistically have. Most 20+ sessions campaigns you'll see are either podcasts or series of people who do that as their jobs, or groups that have been playing together for years and those are realistic paces for them.
