I am deeply saddened by the loss of books, even bound periodicals, for there is something irreplaceable about a physical book: its look, its smell, its heft.

On Libraries
Not only is this a visually excellent object (as are Abdurraqib’s other books, to lesser extents), it’s also a masterclass in physical design. My ranting about aspect ratio and typesetting probably isn’t welcome, but I’m going to inflict that front matter on everyone regardless. It’s got a fucking PoP compliance statement in addition to the usual Unicode code point 267E for acid-free.
Reading is important. Books are important. Librarians are important. (Also, libraries are not child-care facilities, but sometimes feral children raise themselves among the stacks.)
Neil Gaiman
The smell of the library always lifted my spirits.
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

—Billy Connolly
People can lose their lives in libraries. They ought to be warned.
