“Oh, Jin… It sounds like you still have some things to learn about the business world we live in.”  There’s a smile on his lips, but not one that necessarily radiates kindness, but perhaps more so out of trying to pass off as polite. “It’s a mistake to let anyone know if you’re close to anyone or not, and it’s an even bigger mistake to say who.” He leans forward a little, resting his arms on the edge of his desk. There was one person he would try to protect at any and all costs; but he’d once made the mistake of letting who he was close to be known, and he wasn’t going to risk that again. Especially not with his heart as deeply invested as it was. 

“It’s safe to say that any of my people are under my protection, I do care about the well-being of those working for me…and y’know, let’s say I’m trying to protect you right now. I enjoy our little chats, and I’m sure given the circumstance, we could be good assets to one another…but there’s still boundaries. So, please, do both of us a favor, and let this go.”

             “You sound surprised. Y’know, some old habits do die hard.” Geunsuk raises his glass to his lips, taking a small drink as he mulls over how to respond. Things weren’t like they use to be — fights weren’t little blow outs that disappeared anymore. And perhaps at his age, he shouldn’t be getting into fights with low-life scum like he used to; especially ones that hit hard and hit first. 

            “It’s nothing. Forgot to dodge after getting in the path of an angry drunk bastard. He got escorted out of the bar, but never caught a name, so…it’s no big deal.”

               It wasn’t the complete truth, but he knew—hoped—it wouldn’t sound far-fetched. A small part of him wished he could still tell Heegun the truth but…those days were gone.

            “It’ll heal. So don’t get your hopes up about taking the ‘handsome one’ title just yet.” he offers a playful smirk, something lighter for the situation, something he could still do.

“This can’t go on like this! You’re not eating, you’re not sleeping, you barely talk!”

“Minki…” For a small moment, that’s all that he says, all that he can manage as he sits in the corner of the couch, an unlit cigarette between his fingers, his lighter in the other hand and a folder of paperwork in his lap. Those were the only things he had been managing — smoking and working for tireless, terrible amounts of time. It was all he could do to keep himself put together…even if that was turning into unhealthy, thoughtless coping methods.

But he couldn’t continue to do this, to himself, and more importantly to Minki. Everything couldn’t continue to be like this.

He was hard-headed, and stubborn, and he couldn’t count the amount of times he had dismissed comments and concerns about his own personal behavior, keeping the weight of his guilt to himself. Even if that had meant wearing himself thin — he couldn’t be bothered to be concerned with himself, not after what he had done..even if there technically wasn’t a “choice” for him.

He could have negotiated, found another way to recruit without raising suspicion, he could have at least shared it with Minki sooner than it had been; as soon as he had gotten instruction. But he hadn’t.

But nothing was going to be fixed if he continued to act and think like this, if he continued to avoid everything at hand —and not do anything about it. Damage had inevitably already been done, but it would only get worse if everything was kept in silence.

“Could we talk then?” The cigarette, lighter, and folder were all moved off to the side table before he finally looks up at Minki. “Please…”

“You haven’t slept for days, have you?”

“I’ve slept enough.” Hardly, maybe. He wasn’t going to be completely truthful in his answer regardless, even if it was painfully evident that he was lying. There was nothing he could do to cover up the sleep deprivation — though he couldn’t say he was accepting of the fact, either. Morpheus hadn’t been the only one to comment on how worn he had looked as of late, and as much as he valued a professional yet personal environment in some cases, he wasn’t easily willing to express his own personal issues. For him to do so…he had it ingrained in his mind that it wasn’t only unprofessional of himself, but it was too open and too dangerous for him to do so. The one thing he could do, however, was not completely snap at anyone because he was angry with himself.
