Syndicate has been going against the Lotus since it’s beginning — literally, seeing as our origin stems from Black Lotus...so, of course they’re a threat to our rank in the city. But, if I put too much collective focus on them, what of the other gangs? I can’t have anyone trying to dismantle the establishment I’ve dedicated my time and life to.”

Thanatos can’t say he dislikes Jin — trust is definitely off the table, hence his reminder that he looks to anyone outside of Syndicate as an enemy, at least typically. He wouldn’t consider this a friendship, necessarily, but...he wasn’t above keeping a ‘supposed’ enemy a little closer than the rest. Besides, he didn’t pose a threat to him currently, and that’s what mattered most — as well as the fact that giving him the chance to speak and conversation with him allows him an outsiders point of view. (That, and every now and again, he’ll say something that amuses him, such as his evident determination in the current subject — it was interesting, to say the least, and that had some value in it).

“You’re definitely not wrong, however. Lotus is a threat to both of us and our respective progression. Perhaps that’s something we should both keep in mind. I’m not really one to desire helping opposing forces by any means, but...that commonality one day might be beneficial to both parties. Who knows.” Thanatos keeps his eyes locked on his for a moment before dropping his gaze back down to the news articles in front of him. He didn’t want to seem too friendly, after all.

“And no, that doesn’t matter. Don’t we all have personal vendettas with someone, to some degree? I know I do, but...I can’t go around with complete and total vengeance on the brain, in a business stance, that’s just a bad move. Although...it doesn’t hurt to have additional motives.”

“Oh, Jin… It sounds like you still have some things to learn about the business world we live in.”  There’s a smile on his lips, but not one that necessarily radiates kindness, but perhaps more so out of trying to pass off as polite. “It’s a mistake to let anyone know if you’re close to anyone or not, and it’s an even bigger mistake to say who.” He leans forward a little, resting his arms on the edge of his desk. There was one person he would try to protect at any and all costs; but he’d once made the mistake of letting who he was close to be known, and he wasn’t going to risk that again. Especially not with his heart as deeply invested as it was. 

“It’s safe to say that any of my people are under my protection, I do care about the well-being of those working for me…and y’know, let’s say I’m trying to protect you right now. I enjoy our little chats, and I’m sure given the circumstance, we could be good assets to one another…but there’s still boundaries. So, please, do both of us a favor, and let this go.”

             █ Minki was far more tense than he had been around Geun, even taking into account their first meeting. This didn’t feel right. Whatever they dynamic had been, it was always off-balance from what he had been trained to believe and how to behave. He was not an equal. His opinions would never matter, not unless he ran away. 

                     And regardless of how upset he may have been…he didn’t want to leave him.

                     “Secrets…are not easy to keep…when you live and work in close quarters. We’re almost always around one another. People talk. I do your paperwork and filing for fuck’s sake…” He sighed heavily, staring at the floor. “I saw the roster. I tried to hide it from you, before your team left….then I felt guilty and put it back where it belonged…I should have fucking burned it.”

                            “I don’t want to keep things from you...and this shouldn’t have been an exception. Nothing should, for that matter. Secrets won’t do either of us any favors.” Not that he had thought even making an attempt to keep the operation a secret from Minki was going to be helpful — but he realizes now that it’s done more damage than he ever intended for. Geunsuk can’t even think of a good reason for him having kept it from him in the first place.

                         “Perhaps you should have kept it hidden, or burned it...maybe I would have gotten my head out of my ass sooner. But...even then, I have no good excuse for this.” He stares down at his hands, quiet for a moment before turning his head a bit, softly sighing. “I want you to know that I am incredibly sorry...to you, and to everyone that was dragged into this. And...I know that there is no way to reverse damage that’s already been done, but...I do have to offer a..possible relocation plan in the works for the “recruits”, though I know that’s something I shouldn’t try doing by myself.”

        —⌖|| Gnawing at his lip in thought, Yongguk got up form his chair and began to pace around the office slowly. There weren’t many “safe” options, not many that they could really turn to in cases such as these and still come out on the positive end of things. Geun was right though. If all of the kidnapping victims ended up in reasonably comfortable positions, it would definitely raise suspicions…

                   “What about the Madame? I mean, I only know a bit about them from the few times my unit was sent in to make sure things were kept “legal”, and a bit from Minki, but…I don’t know. It’s a potential option.” He ran a hand through his hair, sighing heavily. “Maybe have the Madame interview them, give a recommendation, screen a few of them that might at least be alright with working the brothel as companions. Sex is usually optional, and the Madame could train them to fight and defend themselves…”

                  “That may be the only option, or at least the only good option right now.” Geunsuk sighs quietly, eyes closing for a moment as he raises a hand to rub at his temple, taking a moment to mull over the idea a little longer before he’s able to speak up again, “I’ve known the Madame for quite some time...so if there’s anyone I would trust to be able to help for this situation, that’s who it would be. Of course, we’ll need something to show for any of those that might work the brothel instead, but...that can be worked out later. Working this out will be first priority...” He sits up a bit, slowly moving to open one of the desk drawers, pulling out an empty folder, as well as a scrap of paper and pen to scribble a few reminders down that he attaches to the folder with a paper clip once he’s finished.

                     At least now...there’s a starting point, something he can try and work with — but there’s a lot to consider, so he can’t jump too far ahead of himself too quickly. But it’s something. 

                     The folder is placed off to the side, among a few other things he had planned on bringing home with him before he turns his attention back to Yongguk; he can’t necessarily bring himself to be very optimistic just yet, considering this was but an idea in the moment...but he could admit to being thankful.

                  “I’ll start looking into this as soon as possible. It’s worth trying and anything is better than doing nothing for any longer. So..thank you for coming in here to call me on my bullshit, and for taking the time to offer solutions. I needed the wake up call.”

             “You sound surprised. Y’know, some old habits do die hard.” Geunsuk raises his glass to his lips, taking a small drink as he mulls over how to respond. Things weren’t like they use to be — fights weren’t little blow outs that disappeared anymore. And perhaps at his age, he shouldn’t be getting into fights with low-life scum like he used to; especially ones that hit hard and hit first. 

            “It’s nothing. Forgot to dodge after getting in the path of an angry drunk bastard. He got escorted out of the bar, but never caught a name, so…it’s no big deal.”

               It wasn’t the complete truth, but he knew—hoped—it wouldn’t sound far-fetched. A small part of him wished he could still tell Heegun the truth but…those days were gone.

            “It’ll heal. So don’t get your hopes up about taking the ‘handsome one’ title just yet.” he offers a playful smirk, something lighter for the situation, something he could still do.

         “So you are willing to make a deal then?” Thanatos returns his gaze to the man across from him, a brow raised as he moved to lean forward casually, an elbow propped up on the edge of the table. The last thing he was going to do was let his guard down…but it wouldn’t hurt to try to ensure tension was eased. 

        Especially when he was trying to make something out of this to work in his favor. 

        “Tell me, so I don’t sit here and continue to talk at you, what you think would be rational, hm? I mean, we would want a fair deal, wouldn’t we?”

         —⌖|| Yongguk listened quietly, his expression as neutral as possible; he wasn’t there to judge, especially considering the blood on his hands…but these were innocent bystanders dragging into their world, for prostitution.

                    It was hard to simply turn a blind eye to that.

                    “All due respect, Boss…I don’t know what your situation is with the top man or whatever. As far as I’m concerned, if I don’t see him, he doesn’t exist. I answer to you.” He sighed heavily, averting his eyes for a moment, lost in thought. “But there’s always a choice. We choose to be who we are. I choose to do what I do. I do bad things, ultimately for the greater good. These kids you helped kidnap? Their choice was taken away. Just like your boy Minki. And I can guarantee you, none of them will get as lucky as he has..” 

                    “I answer to him, just as you answer to me. I try to avoid giving the man any reasons to question my loyalty or trust...or at an extreme end, to remove me.” He glances at Yongguk, before resting his gaze on the wall behind him, going quiet for the moment to let the other man speak and listen to what he had to say.

                       He couldn’t say it helped him feel any better about the situation...but he couldn’t say that he was wrong in any sense, either.

                    “You are right, there is always a choice. I could have figured out another choice..came up with other options beforehand. But, I went with the default option, choosing not to speak up.” There’s a quiet sigh that leaves him, leaning forward a little bit to prop his elbows up on the edge of his desk. “I’m trying to re-position as many of them as I can, given that won’t return the freedom that’s been stolen from them...but it will keep them out of the sex trade. That was an option — to place some of them in other roles, if it was seen as a better fit. But...it would be too good to be true if all of them were able to fit somewhere else. I have no doubt the boss would find that questionable...or worse, it might push him to place a second order. Which bringing any more into all of this...that’s the last thing I want.”

              █ It felt…odd. He was used to Geun taking their Master/servant dynamic with a grain of salt, but at that moment with how serious the situation was, sitting beside him even pretending to be an equal felt really, really wrong. Beside him as an equal was not his place.

                      But if it was what Geun wanted…

                      “Yes, sir,” he whispered, head still bowed as he rose from the floor and gingerly sat next to his Master; Minki knew how to kill someone in over forty different ways, but…he felt so small and insignificant in that moment. It hurt. 

                       He loved Geun. Probably too much.

                        “I’m sorry..”

                      “You don’t have to apologize...you’ve done nothing wrong.” 

                      There’s a quiet sigh that leaves him, and despite having gone through so many scenarios and thoughts on the entire subject...he’s not sure what to say at first. He wants to apologize, profusely so, but he knew that simply saying he was sorry for what he had done wasn’t going to fix anything, nor make right of the situation. 

                         Although, staying in the confines of his own exhausted mind, as he had been, wasn’t going to help anything, either.

                        “If anyone should be apologizing, it should be me to you...I tried to keep this from you, and then all I’ve accomplished is hurting you and ruining people’s lives in the entire process. Just because I didn’t want any repercussions...I could have gone about this whole thing in so many different ways, but I didn’t. But...I can’t let this sit here in silence as it has been, either... “
