Day 27 of #onceuponaretelling is Star Crossed Lovers: Romeo & Juliet. A love story that so many people aim to have yet they seem to forget the whole thing lasted a couple of weeks and they both died ☠️ but ya know, whatever... . . So this was an instance where I saw the movie before reading the book BUT to be fair, I didn’t know it was a book until I saw the movie and it told me! I won’t shame you or anything for watching before reading. You do you. I just prefer to discover the characters and world myself before seeing someone else’s vision (especially since there are always issues). HOWEVER, after seeing the movie I went out the next day and bought this book, Warm Bodies by @isaacmarion !! I loved how close it was even with differences. This is an adaptation that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED 💕💕 The book, the movie, the whole damn enchilada!! Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I fell for R from page one and how love truly conquered death 💀 . . . So not much to talk about here. Day 26 of #onceuponaretelling is family treachery aka Hamlet inspirations. While I do have books with some family drama, it’s nothing like Hamlet, just typical YA stuff. Day 25 of #onceuponaretelling is Egyptian Mythology. Now, this was always one of my favorite times in history class (and Greek/Roman myths). I love the complexity of their beliefs and all the gods in charge of every aspect of their lives (and afterlives)! As much as I am in love with the Greek/Roman mythologies, Egyptian has ALWAYS been first in my heart 😍😘. Specifically, I enjoyed the discussions about the afterlife and mummification. We even had one teacher in 7th grade walk us through how it was done... I’m not kidding. They gathered us in groups in the library and we watched a DEMONSTRATION of someone being “mummified”. It was awesome!!! . . The book I’ve chosen to feature is The Chaos of Stars by @authorkierstenwhite . I discovered this book due to this challenge so thank you for that! 😊 I love it when humans get into the business of the gods for they ALWAYS show them up and teach them a lesson (or 100)🤷🏻‍♀️ even though they try and try to stay out. But family is a whole different story. Day 24 of #onceuponaretelling is Norse Mythology! I love me some Loki (and Thor) 😍 However, I prefer me some Valkyries 🙌🏻 Can’t ever go wrong with badass warrior women! I mostly fell in love with them a few years back when the show Lost Girl was on! I was so sad to see it end 💔😭 Kenzi (human) and Tamsin (Valkyrie) are my favorites 💕💕💕 . . The book I’ve chosen is Runes by Ednah Walters. This story is a different take on the Valkyrie along with many other aspects of the mythology (mixed with some others). TBH when I first read it, I had no idea about the mythology of things in the story. I had read a synopsis, but no idea! I have always been intrigued by runes and even have a few necklaces with runes. Day 22 of #onceuponaretelling is Dionysus, the God of Wine and Theatre 🍷🎭 . . As you can see, I don’t have a story about him 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I have been going to see musicals since I was 6 with my dad! Day 15 of #onceuponaretelling Grimm. As a child, when I thought of fairy tales, I thought of Disney and all those amazing songs ☺️ Then, I learned of the Grimm Brothers, of the darker, originals those tales were based on. I still love Disney but bring on the darker fairy tales! . This is a @barnesandnoble special edition of the complete Grimm Brothers fairy tales that they collected during their travels! I bought it for two reasons: 1) Fairy tale obsession, DUH! 2) It’s so pretty! I currently have about 12 of their special collections half because I love the stories and half because they’re so beautiful I could cry 😍 I highly recommend them! . While fairy tales have been around for like ever, the Grimm brothers helped to spread the fairy tales beyond their own people and language across the countries and eventually, the world. And I’m so happy that they did! #thanksboys One of my favorites is Hansel & Gretel! I love this story and I don’t think it gets the love it deserves sometimes (loved the movie featuring @renner4real & @gemmarterton btw) So, love to the brothers without whom I wouldn’t have this beautifully illustrated book nor the love of Disney I have! Day 14 of #onceuponaretelling Happily Ever After. 💕 Of Fire and Stars by @brashbook was included in an @owlcrate box quite awhile back. (I’m too lazy to check rn)(comfy bed + #sundaynightfootball )(go @chiefs ) IN ANY CASE, I fell in love with this story and Denna’s struggle to hide her truth. She is betrothed to a prince and we come in when she is being sent over there so the alliance can be felt out and seen as the correct step to take. Things, for the most part, seem to go well... except for the Prince’s clever, stuborn, and unconventional sister - Mare 😍 I was so pleased with the ending of this book except for the fact that I thought it was a stand-alone because I wanted more of their story... . .
