One Word: Discernment
Inspired by Seo Helrune’s response to Irene Glass’ yearly request for a word for the year. This is mine: Discernment. Discernment in the Data Overload We have entered a world in which it is more needed, more dire than ever, that we exercise discernment. What we take in can be scraped, compromised, regurgitated, and in some cases, erroneously repeated as truth by LLMs (Large Language Models).…
— Fyodor Dostoevsky, “The Idiot”
MIDNIGHT'S DOOR
Beneath the hush of twilight skies,
Where starlight hums and silence sighs,
A hidden threshold waits once more,
The silver frame of Midnight’s Door.
I touch its wood, my spirit shakes,
The key I hold, the night remakes,
It pulls me in, I can’t ignore,
The call that comes from Midnight’s Door.
Beyond it, fields of wonder gleam,
A kingdom built of breath and dream,
And in the center, strong and sure,
I see the one I’m searching for.
His eyes are stars, his voice a flame,
The world dissolves when he speaks my name,
No shadows linger, doubts no more.
They fall away at Midnight’s Door.
He takes my hand, the night turns still,
Our hearts aligned, our fates fulfilled,
The endless wait, the ache I bore,
All vanish here through Midnight’s Door.
And though the dawn may steal the skies,
And wake me from these jeweled lies,
My soul remembers, evermore,
That love I touched at Midnight’s Door.
Inspired by one word prompt 'Midnight'.

That day, they learned that when there are two people, half the times they agreed and half the times they disagreed on every issue. What they were unwilling to accept is that they could get along very well together even if they disagreed half of the times.
