Once upon a night. || @onehellofabxtler

Once upon a time, there was a handsome butler and a maid, completely in love with him. Neither of them was a noble - they were humble servants of a certain noble. The maid thought the butler didn't know about her feelings, the butler seemed to be deprived of any feelings at all.

But although for the maid it looked like a fairy tale, one could say it wasn't one. After all, the two weren't meant to be together, as it could seem, and even if they got together somehow, the end was not going to be happy. They wouldn't live happily ever after. Not only because it wasn't proper; they simply lived in two different worlds.

Yet that one evening, after three years of her work, the maid decided the secret should no longer be a border between them. The butler deserved so much more than that. He deserved her honesty. He deserved her heart.

How had it begun that Mei-Rin actually made this choice? The maid herself wouldn't be able to answer the question. All she knew was that something kept her heart in an iron grip, and she needed to get rid of the burden. For the first time she would be completely open for Sebastian. She was ready to hear any answer from him. Even if that was to separate them forever.

Once their day was finished, she headed towards the butler's quarters. Never before had she done that - usually it was him who visited her, and truth be told, she had never passed the threshold of his room, but there had to be that first time. Why not now?

Having taken a deep breath, Mei-Rin lifted her hand; it was trembling but she tried to steady it before knocking thrice on the door. At the same time she wanted it to open at once and prayed Sebastian wasn't in his chamber yet. But it had to be done. Hoping the butler wouldn't mind her unannounced visit, she let her hand at last fall onto the wooden surface of the door.
