This might sound dumb but could I have a script for approaching someone online who you really want to be their friend? There's this girl on tumblr who I haven't talked to before but she's really nice, seems to have a LOT of similar interests/fandoms, and is really nice (she reblogs my art with super nice tags and it makes me super happy) and I'd really like to know how I can message her and try to start a conversation online without sounding weird/ creepy.
Well on tumblr there’s always a possibility you sound creepy, personally I tend to embrace that fact but since you want to avoid that I’ll try to suit it to you.
Here’s some ways you can approach her!
Talk about a post she made! If you see a personal post with a question or something frustrated you can reach out and relate to her, like if it says ‘ugh’ you can be humorous and reblog with a ‘I feel you bro’ or if they complain about something that happened you can send a message with ‘Hey, you okay?’
Mention the tags ‘Hey, I’ve wanted to talk to you ever since I noticed your nice tags. They really cheer me up and make my day, and you seem like a nice person. Maybe you’d like to talk about ‘fellow interest’?’
‘Dude, thanks so much for your positive feedback. I always check your tags when You reblog something of mine, they always make my day. And I was wondering, what do you think about ‘fellow interest’?’
You can also do what I like which is to embrace creepiness and go in all caps:
i keep readiNG YOUR TAGS THEY MAKE ME SO HAPPY PLEASE BE MY FRIEND OMG. (Translation: I keep reading your tags, they make me so happy! Please be my friend, oh my god.”)
Most likely they want to reach out to you too if they’re positive about your art and stuff, and if they sound stiff don’t worry about that. It’s hard not to sound stiff online I’m afraid, I personally always have to apologize for sounding formal. I always come across as way too formal or a grammar mess with the overuse of ‘dude’ and ‘omg’.
