another brushfire, 250 acres on the dinner plates, swallowed, enjoyed. this guest brings heat, glows my cheeks, makes me sweat. im always a little nervous - more, now - he reminds me of sleeping bags, and marshmallows, and reveling in the dust. he cooks my food, he says: "boy, your pink cheeks look like the sun, like roman candles in my light - your eyes are so loud." he eats my allergies - taking dead grass, pollen, no longer living things - so that i can skip the drowsiness and the itch. he turns the mountains black with burning.
