Pittsburgh's baseball team races pierogies!

Why does Pennsylvania get all the best mascots? I need to plan a Baseball Pilgrimage. (I do love both Philly and PGH anyway.)

Still crossing my fingers for them to bring back the Cleveland Spiders.

I miss the Wichita Wingnuts, but that was partly because their away jerseys were white with huge red italic-y text on the front that just read NUTS.

Oh, I didn't know the A's had dot races! I follow a Texas Rangers beat writer on Twitter, and he always updates their dot race standings every night. Cleveland just does it so that everyone has the same number of wins at season's end (27), provided all 81 home games are played.

Omg the DOT RACE STANDINGS. Amazing.

The Yankees do a Subway race of the three trains that run to the stadium on the digital scoreboard!

Oh, how fun! The As could have done that, I would have stood and cheered for BART train races....

Oh sure! There will be photos on the fundraiser page too, but here are two I just completed:

I don’t think they’re necessarily objectively ugly, but I took a look at the fabric and was like “this is for people who want to make a real statement.” I didn’t feel like I could get someone all excited about getting a nice mask and then send them one like these.

These look awesome

I’m pretty proud of them. Most have some little quirk or wrinkle or uneven seam, but by and large they look nice and people can’t tell there’s a crooked nose seam from more than 6 feet away :D

Do the cats love grill days?

They do! I come home COVERED in new smells, but the dominant smell is cooked meat, and they love that. Plus, usually after grilling I’m pretty tired. So once I put the food away, put the dirty dishes in the sink, and put away the grill bag, I sit on the sofa and they come sit in my lap and we all have a nice quiet afternoon together. I’m literally answering this with the laptop balanced on one knee while the cats curl up between my knees and enjoy the heat from the laptop fan blowing on them.

Would it have helped hold the wrenches in place if you wrapped the flat knot over the short end of the wrench? Then there'd be more than one contact point to hold them in the necklace?

I thought about it but I don’t think so -- I mean ultimately they are quite heavy pieces of metal being held by relatively narrow gauge fibers, with nothing to prevent them slipping through the loops. You could, instead of using glue, add something onto the ends of the metal, like a little ridge to stop them falling out, but they’d still slip around quite a bit. I think some E6000 at the neck of the wrench should do the trick the most effectively, anyhow.

Your sport's team mascot is a bottle of mustard. That's so on brand for you....

Honestly it seemed almost too on the nose, but well. It is Chicago. :D He’s branded on a bunch of merch, too, so I bought a stuffed toy of him. They also have a sort of “anti mascot” which is a bottle of ketchup in a trench coat.

I have to admit I did see a certain resemblance :D But then all mascots are part of one siblinghood, I feel.

We got a BRAND NEW minor league stadium in my town that was supposed to open last year 😬 When I finally got to go to my first game last month I almost cried 😂😭😭

Yeah, I think the Dogs only had one season before the pandemic. Apparently they sucked less in 2019, according to one of the guys I rode the shuttle back to the train with :D And yeah, just...being out at a ballpark, especially seeing how happy everyone was and how many people knew each other and were clearly seeing each other for the first time in a year and a half, it was really nice.

One of the nice things about having lived in so many places is I have All The Teams to root for :D I can always find someone to cheer on, especially in the farm leagues because you have not only the team itself but whoever it feeds into....

LOL I didn’t even notice that when I took the picture...at a guess, it looks like he’s doing some kind of shoulder stretching. 

I will say, the Railcats are fielding a really weird team this year -- I’ve never seen such physically small players outside of high school baseball. They’ve got a couple of guys that are comically tiny when you stand them up next to the Dogs players. They play like hell, I mean they won last night’s game and they have robust hitting in addition to strong fielding, but like. Why are their guys so small.
