I get that the Solavellan shippers have been tortured in hell for 10+ years but ooh. Ooh. A Solas/Trevelyan? Let me smack each of my fingers, my mouth is watering to chew on some glass. Especially if it's a mage Trevelyan ooooh.

He says he isn't interested in humans. The circles are an affront. The Tevinter mages are an affront. The Chantry is an affront. Humans are an upstart race who were unfairly given the gift of magic, just to unleash the Blight and ruin the world in their petty greed for more power. They have no idea what they're doing, it's like trying to teach a dog to read, and they enslaved the People - another thing to add to his guilt that he freed from the Evanuris just to see their continued subjugation.

And Trevelyan is some noble. Privileged, maybe Andrastian, naive. But she asks questions. She's curious about him, the Fade, his perspective. It's easy to spin lie about all the things he's seen, 'wandering the Fade, because she's a captive audience. A tiny mortal woman stands up to Corypheus and an archdemon and drops a mountain on top of them. She gets back up. The world deifies and reviles her in turn. She helps an old man place flowers on his wife's grave. She has no reason to go out of her way to help elves or any other non-human races, but she is trying to make a better world for all. When Solas says the Inquisitor challenged what he knew, that if humans could produce someone like her - thoughtful, compassionate, open minded - maybe he misjudged them. He's going to destroy her world to resurrect the elven empire, right the natural order of things - and it's a world that has no room for her. And that's what has to happen...right?

It won't change what he's going to do, nothing will convince him the Veil is not his mistake to correct. But it doesn't feel like a victory anymore, knowing he's going to purge a world of Trevelyans, a woman he would never and could never respect - it's starting to feel like another thing to regret.

“Haunting the narrative” might be the coolest phrase ever, we’re sad it’s got the reputation it does. Many of our stories basically revolve around the concept/reworking of it.

#the strict set of rules for what is nd isn’t also scares us as we write things more abstractly #for instance we have the main character almost haunt the narrative or more so a version of that character #technically though they’re still in the media #oooh.#a thing which the one who haunts is an alter of the current protag #the ex host #are we systems not just haunted by our ex hosts ?#I mustn’t undermine my ideas .
