Send me 💘 for my muse’s reaction to realizing they’ve fallen in love with your muse.
He knew better than this. He…always…knew better than this.
‘Love’ was not a word often found in Roman Torchwick’s vocabulary. When the concept wasn’t trivial, it was a damn nuisance–romance was far too unpredictable, far too risky, and far too steeped in…feelings. Love was too easy to get wrong, too quick to fail, too impossible to calculate. That’s why he should have known…to curb his interest in his former enemy, Ruby Rose.
It had, at first, been little more that a physical attraction–no emotional investment or attachment, no romantic sentiment, simply…a mild curiosity. Ruby matured into adulthood rather beautifully, and without the threat of her sticking her nose too far into his business, he didn’t really feel a need to tear his eyes away. And of course, her tendency to seem a little lost and confused only made their interactions more amusing.
After becoming acquainted with her again, he simply…let his guard down, and that’s when it went to hell, he supposed. Ruby’s sunny disposition and caring nature was infectious, her sweet smile and unpredictable actions brought a flavor of excitement to his life that he hadn’t felt since before the war…or ever before in his life. It was something innocent, so sickeningly sweet that he could almost be disgusted with it, and…warm.
He’d grown so detached from his home in his years as an informant, and suddenly, when he was with Ruby, the world seemed to hold all the color it had in the past, if only a little brighter. Suddenly, he had things to look forward to, work he enjoyed doing, and the will to smile genuinely. He never thought that would ever happen since Vale had turned him into their little puppet.
…It had taken almost losing her to realize the gravity of his attachment, for him to notice just how much she meant to him now. It scared him. More than the thought that the world had almost taken her away, more than the crushing feeling that it didn’t matter to her if he actually cared. The feeling of relief upon learning she was safe, the desire he felt to hold onto her and never let go–it was paralyzing.
Emotions this strong weren’t healthy, they were all-consuming, loathsome…incapable of being reciprocated. He knew better than any. It would take a miracle for her to ever feel the same about him. He should have known better.
Roman should have known better than to fall in love with Ruby Rose.
