Scott just doesn't say anything. He just gets on top of his boyfriend and lays on him. He wraps his arms around his middle and buries his face against Kip's chest.

“Oh.”

Kip had been laying on their bed scrolling through social media on his phone. He didn’t even hear his boyfriend come home. He set his phone down on the nightstand and started rubbing his hands up and down the broad expanse of Scott’s back.

“Hi baby. How was your day?”

“It’s a different kind of tired.” Kip acknowledged. Sometimes he felt that way after a hard day of classes and homework.

“Everyone that matters knows that you are one of the best captains the Admirals have ever had. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. Everyone else doesn’t matter.”

Hayden lays himself down at Shane's feet, sighing. "I am so happy you came over to watch the kids with me," he tells his best friend. "Like I can usually handle it just fine and Jackie deserves time away. But today was randomly hard," he whines.

Shane snorted as quietly as he could so that he didn’t wake up Arthur. The young child had once again decided to cling onto Shane like a barnacle. Shane didn’t mind it at all.

“Yeah you can handle it. That’s why I come over at least twice a month to help you.”

Opening the can and taking a sip of soda gave time for Shane to think about how to respond. He could confess to everything. He could come out to Hayden and finally get the weight of the secret he was carrying off his chest.

But there was a small voice in the back of his head that reminded him that there was always a chance that he would be rejected. He could lose not only his best friend, but his relationship with the other Pike’s as well.

“I know Hayd. Thank you. I’m just…tired I think.”
