todd was given his first piggy bank when he was 5

it was a lesson of independence and wisdom

"use / save your money wisely" his parents would say

back when he was five, the so-called "rivalry" between him and jeffrey + the favouritism hadnt begun yet

so both he and jeffrey had these piggy banks. his was blue, jeff's was classic pink

todd was so so sOOOO dedicated to filling up the piggy bank before his sixth birthday

so he would ask his mom for things to do so he could receive a coin or two from her

and then at some point he and jeffrey had a race to see who could fill up their piggy banks before christmas (this was before todd turned 6. the two moved the deadline dont ask why)

turns out, young todd was REALLY competitive

at one point, it seemed that he was winning

winning aside, he and jeffrey had fun trying to win this silly contest by voluntarily running small errands or chores

their parents found it amusing too

but near christmas, he and jeffrey had a falling out

he couldnt remember why, all he could recall were fervid tantrums and his father getting angry

and at one point, jeffrey had stormed into his little brother's room and tipped over his piggy bank

it crashed on the floor and the noise of pennies on the floor never seemed to end

he didnt talk to his brother for weeks and isolated himself

a week before christmas, when todd still refused to talk to his brother, a knock sounded on his door

"no."

"todd, please-"

"NO!"

but when he looked out, jeffrey held a blue piggy bank (not the exact shade of blue the last one was, but todd let it slide) messily wrapped with a ribbon

"merry christmas"
