so! i’m losing my mind
nami uses polite forms when saying luffy’s going to be the pirate king, specifically on なります/narimasu (to become). nami almost never uses polite forms- the only prior times i can remember her doing so are when she’s putting up an act to suck up to and flatter someone (as with enel, or earlier in this same scene when she’s pleading that she and usopp are already defeated).
this is not that. or, well, that might be part of it, given the circumstances, but- i think this is also her knowing this might be the last thing she ever says, and wanting to say it right.

Normally, I’d agree with Usopp since I’m tired of shounen characters putting their pride before their and their friends’ lives, but seeing a coward like Nami holding on to her beliefs like this actually hits me the right way.
