Figarland Shamrock is an Otter, an analysis.

With the release (on most major pirating sites) of the newest One Piece chapter, a new character known as Figarland Shamrock was introduced. As One Piece fans are acutely aware, this mans importance to the story is quite vital, being seemingly a twin to Red Haired Shanks, one of the series' most mysterious and popular figures.

However, as I was discussing the latest chapter with a friend, he remarked that this new character had a certain "feminine" quality to him, a sentiment which I shared. However, the details of how he came to this conclusion fascinated me, so I decided to analyze his design and see exactly why exactly it is that this man looks like he belongs in a queer Halloween party.

(Also: YES I am aware that the image says twink and not otter, the people who I discuss one piece with are straight as fuck and do NOT know what an otter is. also i can't rlly add an img id cuz i'm supposed to be doing hw rn. srry >n<)

I'm aware that some of these comments might not be completely accurate, but these are just the things that stood out to me the most.

(One Piece Chapter 1137)

Partly going off this, but are the Giants going to... turn on the Straw Hats?

This chapter does an even more explicit job of seeding in the Giants' bigotry. Did you notice how, the obvious, Hajrudin's mother was A Different Giant and couldn't be accepted as Queen, and the 'Ancient Giant's Blood' being seemingly demonized, despite it being inside All Giants? Diluted but still present, present enough that their physical traits still manifest. And demonized so much that the King mutilated himself to, prove a point? to be accepted? because he knew they wouldn't take him seriously if he had this giant reminder of their past? (Also talked about by others and a little bit more by me)

And not to mention the previous little clues, Colon being ostracized for being a 'problem child' and Loki being blamed for things that just happened after he was born, the Horse and his mother's death. (This post speaks about it more)

And even just tinier things, they're so isolated they only get their information from inconsistent newspapers, Shanks when he's around and Saul who's been out the game for 22 years. How old man Jarul, who obviously isn't all there, was seemingly their main informant on what happened as everyone else died but Jarul being as old as he is would be a Warrior born and raised? (Like this person pointed out and it hit me as odd too)

But they feel very, set in their ways? Very lost in the sauce? And Luffy is already allying himself with Loki, however strenuous and we know Luffy. He still mentions Oars! He doesn't care to call people out! Sure he doesn't care about other people's business but with Hajrudin and Shanks connected to this place and the inevitable reveal of Nika, I just wonder if there's gonna be a conflict, maybe reminisced of Water 7?

That is to say, I do enjoy the slow reveal that the Giants, as a fully fleshed-out people, have bigotry. Its disconcerting? Disquietening? To see something we've waited for for so long, something the characters themselves have dreamed of, be this less-than-ideal reality. Like the fact they aren't warriors anymore!

One piece ch 1137, a rant sort of about Shanks

Guys is it strange I always just expected shanks to just be "some guy" like I knew he would be important because a) his promise to luffy and b) he's an emperor of the sea, but I never expected to get a lore drop for him. Like I always just imagined him as that raggedy vagabond, an orphan found at sea, and like ya to him that's very much true because that's the life he lived, but we're seeing everything as the reader (unless Shanks learned about this somewhere in his journey).

Don't get me wrong I don't dislike his lore, it's really interesting to think about, but it's just like such a whiplash. I know people have been theorizing about this since Figarland and Shanks d snitch or rat or whatever the meme is, but I've just been waiting for the "other foot" to drop and for Oda to be like gotcha that was all meaningless :)

Anyway I feel like i'm in shock.

I saw it spoiled like a day or two ago (probably by those who use those like pirated pre releases idk what they're called) and I fully thought that was speculation or a meme even, it's actually horrid. I guess the horrible names fit for the celestial dragons thinking they sound cool or whatever but they just sound dumb and/or pretentious.

I don't even want to type it, it's making me gag. We can all agree Shanks got the better end of deal right. (sidenote: did shanks have his name engraved on something or something of the sorts, because how is Roger naming a kid he found with the same initial as his long lost twin (unless Roger knew??))

anyway I sorta want sham dead in a ditch. get this man out of here, with his long luscious hair and pretentious braid, that's NOT my mangy greasy pirate. The foreboding is intense in this arc. It's like the calm before the storm.

As I was typing that I like the nickname sham much better than the full name, a) it sounds and looks better b) bc of the pun - bring us the real deal.
