If you were gonna do a Lucky Child but for One Piece what character would Reincarnate as?
In terms of writing an OP SI fic, I probably wouldn't reincarnate my avatar as anyone to be honest! The Hiruko plot is intrinsically tied to YYH (and my relationship to it), and the idea of being reincarnated as a specific character is in turn tied to Hiruko and his goals withing the LC-verse. So if I did an OP SI, it would just be a simple transmigration situation.
If I had to pick a canon character, though, I think Vivi might be interesting. She's crucial to the narrative without being a main cast member (similar to Keiko in that way), and I can see actions with Vivi changing the narrative in interesting ways.
Also she and Nami are clearly in love so that's very fun!

“When you going to write something about me?”
Rin looks up from her notebook that was filled with half sentences and doodles, “When are you going to do something noteworthy?”
Ace gasps dramatically, stumbling back with a hand pressed to his chest, “Rin, you wound me.”
“If the piracy doesn’t work out, consider theatre as a backup.” She snaps the notebook shut.
A smirk grows on Ace’s lips, “Is this your way of saying I have a face for the stage?”
“Whatever you need to believe.” Rin rolls her eyes standing from her seat, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I told Marco I’d help restock the medical supplies.”
“Just you wait!” Ace calls after her, “I’ll have something for you to write about!”
Rin laughs to herself having heard the same thing almost every week for the last year.
Ace was fascinated with her the second he got over his little grudge against Whitebeard and finally integrated with the crew. He had first noticed the notebook that was always glued to her hands when she was scribbling in it during a celebration feast after a hard-won battle.
“Counting how many drinks it takes to get Marco drunk?”
Rin glanced up, seeing it was one of the newer members of the Whitebeard crew, “Something like that.” She smiled, almost causing Ace’s heart to skip a beat, “Making sure I don’t forget anything from today.”
“Planning on selling the story to the papers?”
She scoffs, “As if they’d keep the facts straight.” Her hand flies across the page, leaving behind a scribble of words, “But I do think this crew’s adventures will deserve a proper retelling one day.”
Ace nods, thinking about it. Even when he was captain of his own crew he never bothered to keep a logbook, figuring he’d remember the good stuff, “And then what ya gonna do with it?”
“Don’t know.” She shrugs, “But it passes the time.”
“So how many pages are about me?”
“You?” She incredulously laughs, “And what about? Getting blown off the ship middle battle and fished out like a fish?”
“Hey now!” Ace flushes, a little embarrassed she saw, “I landed some pretty good blows out there today.”
“Right.” Rin says sarcastically, “Must have missed those ones.”
“Alright. You’re on.” Ace grins, “I’m gonna get your attention and you’re gonna need a hundred of those books!”
“I’ll see it when I believe.”
And see it she did.
Ace became an excitable puppy looking to for attention and praise after every little thing he did.
He single handedly wipes out an entire fleet of enemy ships and brings her back a piece of wreckage as proof. He almost gets the upper hand on Marco and drags Rin to see the burn that’s conveniently been healed. And he really thought the ten meat sticks he ate in under three minutes would impress her, but apparently not.
But Ace finally catches a break with his new appointment.
“Well?” Rin taps a pencil against her book, “Got anything to ask me?”
Ace looks up confused, “Uhh, did you get a new shirt?”
“Really?” Rin asks with a huff, “You thought that rock was worth a page in here.” She waves her book, “But have nothing to say about becoming the second division commander?”
“Oh yeah!” Ace laughs, “Almost forgot about it, to be honest.”
“You’re in an idiot.” Rin falls against the mast of the ship where Ace had been napping until she woke him up, “Alright, let’s hear how it happened.”
“Ahh, that stuff’s boring.” Ace groans, “There was an opening and Pops asked, not much to it.”
He watches as she scribbles in the corner of his eye. After all this time vying for Rin’s attention, it’s kind of a rush to have it.
“And what do you plan to do with your position?”
Ace throws his hands behind his head, “I’ll figure that stuff out later. Hey! Did I ever tell you about the time my brothers and I took on a ten ton crocodile when we were kids?”
“Ten tons?” Rin leans forward with interest, “Wait! Knock it off! I’m trying to catalog the Whitebeard adventures, not whatever you did back in the East Blue!”
“But it’s a more exciting story!” He laughs to himself, “Used to use Luffy as bait until these beasts were close enough for me and Sabo to get at ‘em.”
“You used your brother as bait?” She deadpans, “Why am I not surprised.”
“He volunteered!” Ace insists, “Besides, he’s the person you should be lookin out for! He’s gonna be something big one day.”
“I’m sure any brother of yours will cause as much trouble as you.” Rin giggles and Ace feels his palms getting a little sweaty, “But I wanted to know more about your new position.”
“C’mon.” Ace whines, “I promise my stories will be better than any of that shit. Gimme a chance?”
Rin sighs, it’s not like the ship would be making landfall anytime soon. “Fine.” She says, but quickly holds up a hand when Ace’s face lights up, “But you will answer my questions eventually, got it?”
“Whatever you say.” Ace twist to face her fully, “Now let me tell you about the pirates I took out when I was eight.”
It’s a long afternoon that passes by quickly with the riveting stories Ace recounts from his early days raised by bandits to his adventures in the East Blue that eventually took him to the Grand Line.
By the time night falls, Rin is bent over cackling as Ace explains just how he turned down a Warlord position to the Navy.
“You did notsay that to a Vice Admiral!”
“I did!” Ace nods, “And I’d do it again!”
Rin collects herself, wiping away the tears of laughter, “You’re something else, Portgas D. Ace.”
“So? Think I can at least get a few pages in this big ol’ book of yours?”
Rin chews on her lip, not wanting to admit his tales could fill a novel three times over, “Definitely worth a foot note or two.”
Ace groans and sags in his spot, “I really thought I’d get you with marine base break in.”
Rin hums to herself, flipping through the pages once more, “We’ll just have to see.” And then gets to her feet, “Thank you for entertaining me for the afternoon, this was very eye opening.”
“Well, I’m not done yet.” Ace grins, “You’re still missing a few years leading up to now.”
“I suppose we’ll just have to make a date for next time.”
Ace swallows thickly, trying to fight down the flush at your words. All he can do is give her a strained smile and nod before she makes her way to the inside of the ship.
The months that follow see Rin and Ace regularly sitting together out on the deck. She wouldn’t tell Ace, but she had picked up a fresh notebook on the last island and had decided to dedicate it to his stories.
She tells herself it’s easier to keep her notes straight and has definitely nothing to do with hearts she absentmindedly doodles each time she thinks of him.
“So, when am I gonna get a to read this biography?”
Rin has her legs stretched across Ace’s lap, with his warm hands pressed into the flesh. She peeks over the edge of her notebook, “Biography? Who said it was a biography?”
“Isn’t that what they call those books about a person? I know you’re writing mine.” He shrugs, “I don’t blame ya.”
“Shut up.” Rin try to kick at his stomach, but his hand grabs your foot before it lands.
“C’mon.” He shifts a bit and is almost leaning over her, “Just a couple pages.”
“You really want to see it?” Rin asks. It was common knowledge Rin always had her head buried in her writing, noting everything she saw and experienced, but it wasn’t often someone wanted to look.
“Course I do!” Ace sits back, “I want to read anything you write.”
Rin chews on her lip for a moment before offering the notebook, “Don’t expect too much.”
Ace snatches the book before she can even finish her sentence. He flips to the first page and his eyes hungrily take in every word.
Her words make it feel like she was there. Like she was apart of the adventures from his childhood. Ace is astounded at the flow and perfect description of each scene, astounded she was able to glean so much from his mess of storytelling.
But there’s something else to her writing that has an uncomfortable feeling stir in his belly. It’s obviously about him. She wrote the words from his mouth. But the way she describes him? Like he’s even worthy to be written down on paper.
“What’d you think?” Rin asks, nervously chewing on her thumbnail.
“It’s good.” Ace clears his throat, “Ahh, really good.” He closes the notebook and hands it back.
Rin watches his face as he smiles at her, but there’s something off, “What is it?”
“Nothing!”
“Did I get something wrong?”
“No!” Ace waves his hands, “It’s great, why would you think that?”
“Then what’s with the face?”
“Face? This face? It’s just my face.” Ace laughs, but Rin has come to learn his deflection tactics using humor.
“C’mon.” She sits up, nudging his shoulder, “You can tell me if it’s shit, I won’t take offense.”
“It’s not shit. Really!” He exclaims when he catches the look of skepticism, “It’s just. Well, the way you write me.”
“Did it not feel right?”
Ace scoffs, “Well, not to me.” He sighs and looks at his hands before back to her, “You wrote me like I’m some great thing. You don’t really think that, do you?”
“What are you talking about?” Rin asks, “You’re the one who kept saying how you could fill books.”
Ace doesn’t answer.
“Ace.” Rin says softly, a comforting hand on his shoulder, “You know you’re something special, right? I wouldn’t waste my time with this if I didn’t think so And I think by the end of your life, I’ll be able to fill a hundred books with the wild shit you’re going to find yourself in.”
His eyes slide over to hers, “You gonna stick around that long to write it all?”
Rin feels her heart rate pick up, “Uh, I mean. I guess we’ll just have to see.”
“I’d like it if you did.” Ace says, finally finding his voice, “Stick around that is.”
“Well I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.” She smiles, flipping open the book to a later part, “Now tell me if I got this part right, I wasn’t sure if you- oh!”
Her voice is cut off when a pair of lips press to hers, and just as quick pull back, “Shit.” Ace curses, “That wasn’t, I-”
A smirk pulls on Rin’s face, and she presses a finger to Ace’s mouth to shut up his nervous rambling, “If you wanted this story to have a little romance you could have just asked.” Her hand shifts to curl around his chin, pulling his face closer to hers, “Well?”
In lieu of answering, Ace cups Rin’s face and pulls her in for a deep kiss. And has his tongue his dancing at the seem of her lips, begging for entrance, Rin realizes his story might end up turning into their story.
