“You” 💛 Only daughter of Mihawk requested by anon
Part 1(?)
You landed roughly on your back, tearing up at the pain and your wooden sword falling next to you on the dirt.
“(Y/N), up. Come on.” You shook your head in defiance at your father’s words and a soft sob escaped you.
“No! I don’t want to! I give up!” You shakily yelled, rubbing your back as you sat up. Mihawk sighed before crouching down in front of you. He looked at your teary eyes, heart breaking at your young face breaking out into more sobs.
“(Y/N). Once more.”
“No! I give up! I hate you!” Although the words of a five year old shouldn't have affected him so harshly, it still hurt to hear such words from his only daughter. He sighed softly and put down his own wooden sword next to your fallen one. He stuck his thumb out before licking the tip and wiping the dirt spot off of your cheek, making you try to pull away from him.
“Do you know why I’m doing this?” He questioned softly, licking his thumb again to take the smudge off, making your eye close from the slight pressure.
“You hate me?...” He rolled his eyes at your words but put his hand back down.
“The opposite. I love you and I’m your dad. I’ll always love you but I can’t protect you forever, no matter how much I want to be.” He muttered, folding his arms on his knees as he looked at you. You sniffled and now you were crying for a different reason.
“B-But, daddy…”
“I know you’re tired and in pain but I want this to be a valuable lesson for you. Every time you get knocked down, you get back up. Now, up. Once more.” He said, standing up after picking up the wooden sword. You rubbed at your eyes before before picking up your own sword and getting up. You got in your position and sniffled before letting out a yell, signaling that you were ready.

You ate the dessert happily as Mihawk poured tea for you to enjoy it with. He had bandaged up your cuts and put an ointment to help with the bruises that you got every time you fell down. He took a seat with his own tea, drinking it as you enjoyed your treat. It hurt seeing you injured because of his training but he couldn’t lose you. You were his everything and he would rather die than see anything happen to you. You looked up at him and smiled, a smile with the purity that only a child could have.
He reached over and gently stroked through your red hair, making you hum happily. He cracked a small smile before bringing his hand back to drink his tea. When you were done with your drink, you waddled over to him and put your hands up. He quickly obliged and placed you on his lap. He saw how your eyes stared at the center of the table and his lips tilted up in a small smile. He reached over and grabbed the vase that had caught your eye. You looked excitedly as he took out a daisy from the bouquet in there and you reached out for it. He gave it to you and you sniffed it happily before looking at him, fingers spinning the stem gently while thinking.
“Daddy, will I be strong as you?” He gently patted your head before responding:
“You’ll carry on the legacy well, my dear daisy.”
Your grin was still prominent in his memories
“Dad!” Even though it had been a while since he heard himself called that way, he still turned to look in the direction it was coming from. His lip twitched slightly at seeing his daughter jogging up to him but worry instantly pooled in his stomach seeing you bandaged up nearly head to toe. You stopped in front of him, noticing how he was looking at your injuries.
“What happened?” He asked, more gruffly than he intended. You smiled and waved your hand dismissively.
“It looks worse than it is. It comes with the job, right?” You winked at him, making him roll his eyes.
“It looks like it was a tough opponent. You should be resting instead of being here.”
“What? And miss seeing my dad? Never. Besides,” you grinned and patted the sword attached to your hip, “some old guy once told me that I gotta keep getting up even when I’m down.” You giggled when he turned around and started walking away from you.
“That old man was going to buy your crew dinner but he might be too senile to do anything.” He called back, making you laugh and run to catch up to him.
“Dad~! I’m sorry~! You’re real young for your age!” You said, laughing and making him roll his eyes. He felt your arms circle around his own and how you lightly nuzzled against his bicep. “I missed you, dad.”
“I missed you too…. Maybe you should visit me more.” You groaned at his response and flicked his cheek.
“Dad~!” He cracked a smile at your whine. Seeing how you’ve grown into a fine captain was a bittersweet moment for him. His little daisy wasn’t so little anymore.
