so i need a new laptop. like.. really bad. a few months ago mine broke, stuck on automatic system repair, nothing could fix it so brought it to best buy. they moved all my info to my external but the computer was so cooked it had to be taken apart nd couldnt be fixed.

my partner sent me an old one she had laying around in the meantime. 2 days ago this one broke too. automatic system repair, brought to best buy, has a failing hard drive making it impossible for me to do what i need to. im looking at a new one that isnt a hand-me-down or old that it breaks in a few months. its about $600-700 USD. Im in the middle of an emergency move and cant afford that but i cant make my OWN money to help out without it or drawing.

if anyone's willing to trust me and take up a commission with paying upfront first then getting the piece after i get the laptop nd work on it that'd be awesome. or if you know someone willing that'd be great too. Each piece will be fully rendered and I promise once I get the laptop I will send updates on the sketching, coloring, rendering etc to make sure its good enough. ...I will say, the broader idea behind the various “We need to stop the fandomification of [X]” genre of posts creeps me the fuck out as a believer in the idea of open art.

Like specifically it’s just, this broader idea that some art must be sanctified away from the grubby hands of those who would soil it that I see running throughout it, that to

Which, like, I get/agree with in the case of stuff like living marginalized cultural practices, but this takes it one step further and more broadly into something very culturally conservative.

The idea that if you interact with Real Art in a way that is Wrong; that does not treat it with the Holiness and Dignity it deserves, you shouldn’t be able to have it. Which, again I get to some degree, but also the fact that what is considered “wrong” includes “being too jokey/glib/silly about it” and "iterating on it Wrong” shows it’s being taken way farther than that.

And the way it’s conflated with; like; the very real forces that do in fact lead to culture being milked until it squirts blood from its withered teats or that make it harder to find original content is also sinister, because of how much it treats the way art and stories are essentially factory-farmed as a product of public demand rather than a force of corporate infrastructure.

And leading from that, I will note that the exact same justifications are used a whole lot for why our current overreaching copyright system is A Thing, and how it pretends to work for creators’ rights when; really; it’s a flipside of that same commodification coin.

Like, the idea that culture must not be tainted by “the wrong people” is the narrative used for why copyright law being Way Too Fucking Draconian/Long is A Thing, the idea that “If my art becomes public domain the Plebs will Destroy it” is a major argument I see a lot.

And anyone using that argument against the “fandomification” of art due to its perversion of the Sacred Original Intent needs to grapple with the fact that that is where their view of art ultimately leads...
