nail art: Glitter tips using OPI Red - OPI and Paris - Julep

My mom was going to a quinceañera and so I obviously got her all ready, makeup and all. But the problem when I do her nails is that she is extremely impatient and somehow always manages to ding up all her nails, somehow! So I always, now, like to only use something that requires one coat to look decent because we all gotta keep it real. But my mom loves glitter and so I did something that looks elevated but honestly requires not much more time (yes time, not effort).

All you do is: 1) apply your base color on all your nails 2) give it about 3 minutes for your nails to dry (this is important because when you’re dabbing on the glitter, you could be picking up the nail polish you used as base and then you’d be left with gaps in your mani) 3) use whichever clear based glitter nail polish (or one with color for ombré nails) of your choice and make sure to remove as much excess from the upper part of the brush (this never usually happens but this time a bead from the stem of the brush managed to fall on me finger; fell on my pinky, ruined my mani, and nearly got on the carpet). 4) Dab the glitter on your tip, gently. Do this step by step until you get as much glitter as you wish to have on your tips. SO basically, what I’m saying is do one finger, move on, and come back if there isn’t enough glitter on your nails. It’s better to add layers as you go on, giving it time to dry and allowing the glitter you’re adding to stick to your nail — if you just add all the glitter all at once you’ll have tips that will cake, won’t dry, and most likely not only will the base color lift — so will the glitter. BE PATIENT! 5) Apply top coat. Important because it will give your nail look uniformity, before the top coat it look a bit funny but once you add it the nail will look all as one. For this look I only went back on some nails twice, and that was only like 2 more minutes of work. Your nails should take SOME time; this look I would give 15 minutes, and that includes drying time in and out. Even with fast drying top coat you should allow sometime for your nails to dry. I use Nutra Nails Speed Dry top coat (under 3 dollars at Walmart), and I allow it at least 10 minutes before I really go out and live my life. It does dry hard to the touch within 3 minutes but I don’t always trust that the middle of the polish is dry, and I would rather wait a bit more than ruin my mani that I just put at least 20 minutes into doing. Sure some people take faster, and do a fine job, but from the looks of it — I’ve seen just a rushed job from many nails. In my opinion if you’re going to take the time to do anything, take it, don’t half ass it. also: most of us are not nail techs, so don’t beat yourself up. And the last thing is: live in your truth, which means if you know, like I know, that my mom can not handle sitting without messing up her nails, only do as much as you honestly know you, or they, can handle. Or still do it but don’t get pissy when you apply a color or nail art that requires 3 coats, and then you have dinged nails because you couldn’t sit still. If it were me I would have applied more glitter, and another layer of the base color, but I know if I did the nails like that it would not have dried on time and would just later be dingy, and dented, and stuff.
