STUDY: Conservatives Won't Read An Opposing View Even If They're Offered Money To Do So (VIDEO)
STUDY: Conservatives Won’t Read An Opposing View Even If They’re Offered Money To Do So (VIDEO)
Many conservatives have actually said:
“I wouldn’t watch Rachel Maddow if you paid me.”
A new study in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology tested this very question.
The study told people that they would get a chance to win $10 if they read an opposing opinion on a topic. They would get a chance to win $7 if they chose the opinion that they already agreed with. The given topic was…

A Variety of Viewpoints
I am someone who tries to listen to and read a varied diet of materials. I want my brain to take in as much as possible so I can always be challenging my inner status quo. I feel like it helps keep me honest to myself, whenever I can sit in the discomfort of a challenging thought and determine whether that thought is correct or partially correct or wholly incorrect. Sitting in that discomfort is…

I was reading a post-election editorial piece this morning which stated that voters who voted in a specific way, clearly believed a specific thing. The actual details of this are unimportant The general gist though, was that people who voted differently than the author of the piece were being portrayed as thoughtless and unfeeling. I have opinions. Sometimes even strongly held opinions. But I…

I've added something new to my morning routine this summer.
Every morning, when I sit down for breakfast (approx. 20-30 mins) I sit down and watch/listen to/read news from the opposite sides of my beliefs.
Since I don't fit on the 2 party spectrum, I can find disagreement on all sides, so it's not just "oh let's see what the liberals are up to" or "oh what are the capitalist nazis doing"... it's everything, even fringe/radicals, if I have the stomach for it.
It is without a doubt the most excruciating part of my day, and is exhausting. But I also think it's the most important part of my day, because going into a discussion with only one perspective and no desire to change that has become a trend in the world, and any attempt at unity/discourse/academia/healing is sorely hurt because of it.
I don't usually discuss politics anyway in real life (which is counterintuitive to my posts I know, but that's because this is an outlet separate from my actual life), but it honestly makes the daily political tension less painful, because bit by bit I am gaining new context, seeing above the emotion of the conversation.
Have I converted ideologies? No. Am I radicalized? Also, no... honestly the radical stuff I look at is purely in the name of looking at all sides of a given story, but God damn they are fucking bottom feeders. But am I learning? Absolutely.
The majority of people may not be doing this, and it's only going to get more toxic and less appealing as we wade deeper into election year mayhem, but if more people did, it would change so much.
If the communist/socialist revolutionary that still shops at walmart and uses a mac, or the maga hat wearing anti masker that says they're being oppressed/ deceived by the media while also supporting someone who exploits and expands executive power daily and is blatantly corrupt/a liar, just for a few minutes sat down, alone, and turned on and genuinely listened to the arguments of their adversaries, I think the world would be in a very different place.
Will this happen? Probably not. Doing that is painful, and infuriating, and draining, and frankly it's way easier to just stay in the bubble of your respective ideology. To carry on with absolutism in that you are good and they are bad. Inertia is a blight on the human psyche.
(For real though, this call for discourse is for people rationally in the spectrum. Alt rights and extreme lefts, you're the catalyst of this divide, don't think I'm saying you deserve a platform for hatred/ radicalization, you don't)
DEMOCRACY
Advantages and Disadvantages of Democracy
Democracy or democratic government is a form of government wherein the people or citizens of a country have the freedom to choose their leaders and get involved in governance. Unlike a monarchy or oligarchy where an individual has absolute power or a small group of individuals have the power, a democracy is a government for and by the people.

WARNING: The following is likely to cause severe nausea, headaches and anger.
On page A20 of today’s print edition of The Washington Post, there is a letter by an anonymous source claiming to be a 90-year-old man. There is some speculation that Trump himself may have submitted the letter. The letter is listed as an advertisement and I could not find it anywhere in the online edition but had to…
