What is fear?

That painful but exciting gap between you and the terror you must find within yourself. What is fear? A moment of eternity you will never forget when you look into the abyss and realize you are already falling.

A thin corridor will always lead to you to a thinner corridor, and finally to a doorway. Knock! Knock! Knock! No one is home. You are allowed in. Go inside. You are standing in a very familiar room. Everything is framed in a series of infinite regression. In the corner, there is a chair with a familiar person sitting in it. The person rises, and walks over to greet you, and you do not know them.

“Hello,” the person says.

“Hello,” you say.

“You have changed since I last saw you.”

You take a deep breath and you feel a familiar pain in your chest. “Yes,” you say. “I have.”

Then the person asks you “What has become of you?” and you want to say a lot of things. The person smiles, it is not a kind smile, it is the smile of something hungry. A smile that says “You are delicious.” The person sits down at the table, and you sit down across from them. They lean forward, so you do too.

This is what they say: “Let me tell you a story.”
