Thinking about that last post and I was immediately like which is why I get stern-wrathful-destruction-forest-god Dionysos when it feels like everyone else gets party god Dionysos, but also like... what is it about me that made Him come to that decision

I’m American and Chinese and Jewish.  The Chinese government does way worse shit than the Israeli government does.  I have much closer ties to China than I do to Israel—I have more family there, for example, and I’ve been there way more times.  But no one cares what I think of the Chinese government.  No one has ever asked, except after I’ve brought up the fact that no one ever asks.  The actions of the Chinese government do not inspire the hatred of and vitriol towards Chinese people to nearly the same degree—especially from leftists. 

This is what Jews mean when we say there is a double-standard when it comes to Israel.  

I did not vote for Netanyahu.  Most Jews didn’t.  Most Israelis didn’t.  Most of the Israeli electorate didn’t.  Most of the Israelis who cast votes in the most recent election didn’t. 

39 political parties ran in the most recent Israeli election.  Thirty-nine.  About a dozen of them won a significant enough percentage of the vote to get Knesset seats.  

4.4 million people voted.  Likud, Netanyahu’s party, got about 1 million votes.  So only 24% of the votes cast were for the man who won the Prime Minister’s seat.

Voter turnout was way down this year, for lots of reasons, but there are nearly 6.6 million registered voters, which means only 16% of the electorate voted for Netanyahu.

There are about 9.3 million Israelis, which means only 11% of Israelis voted for him.

There are between 14.6 million and 17.8 million Jews in the world, so even if you took the conservative estimate, and even if you were to assume that only Jews voted Likud, only 7% of us chose this.

I am not endorsing the actions of the Netanyahu government when I say that the way people talk about the Israeli government is unacceptable.  I think the Israeli people and the Palestinian people and the Palestinian-Israeli people who have to deal first-hand with the decisions made by a government that most of them did not choose all deserve better, and all deserve a chance at self-determination, and all deserve to live in their homes with peace.  None of them and none of us deserve to be thrown under the bus for the decisions of a government we did not choose.

    Fighting. Or, well, arguing. 

    Regulus and Sirius have never had views that match. They’re both so all or nothing about everything, neither seems to be able to concede to the other (much to the delight of their mother, no doubt). But when they argued, even if their voices were raised and neither gave the other any ground... Sirius still felt listened to, and he still tried to listen to Regulus.

    Neither was stupid (impulsive and prideful, maybe...), and he could understand why Regulus believed what he did. He didn’t agree with it or see Regulus’ reasons as good reasons, but he could see why Regulus thought they were good reasons.

    With how upset Regulus became, Sirius was sure he was getting through. The fact Regulus argued with him at all meant the kid cared for him. It wasn’t until they were mostly ignoring each other that Sirius realised how much he missed the arguing.
