A/N: This fic was for a request I got a couple weeks ago. Sorry I took so long anon!
Harry straightened his tie for the sixth time in the last five minutes and made one last attempt at taming his wild black hair before descending into the Gryffindor common room.
“What do you think?” he asked Ron and Hermione, worried.
“You clean up nice mate,” said Ron, waggling his eyebrows. Hermione shoved him gently.
“She’ll like you no matter what Harry,” she comforted, “but for the record, yes, you do look nice.”
Harry relaxed a little, though the butterflies in his stomach begged to differ. He took a deep breath, rolled back his shoulders, and made his way to the portrait exit. He opened the door tentatively.
Standing outside was Luna Lovegood, her dirty blonde hair swept into multiple buns on her head. She was wearing light green robes that clashed magnificently with a hot pink necklace that she had on. Despite her odd choice of dress, she was beautiful. In fact, that was what Harry loved about Luna - her eccentricity and fearlessness.
“Hi, Harry!”
“Hi Luna,” he said breathlessly. “You look lovely.” Luna blushed.
“That’s very nice of you Harry.” She grinned as she took his hand and led him down the stairs.
“Where is it that we’re going?” Harry asked.
“I don’t really know. Wherever the wind takes us, I suppose.”
“Okay.” Harry smiled to himself. He should’ve known that with Luna there was no ‘classic date’.
A few minutes of innocent running and giggling later, they found themselves on the seventh floor. The room of requirement. Of course they had ended up here.
“Would you like to do the honours, Harry?” Luna asked, her buns slowly unravelling.
“I would be honoured to do the honours,” He grinned and bowed.
He strode past the stretch of wall. I need the perfect place for a date with Luna. He turned and walked by it again. I need the perfect place for a date with Luna. Once more, and a door no bigger than a broom closet started to form. The door was wooden and had carvings of thestrals and nifflers on it.
“Lead the way,” said Harry.
Luna pushed open the door excitedly. On the other side was an abundance of green. A forest, no, a jungle. There was a path leading forward from the door, lined with all kinds of crazy, colourful plants and flowers. Harry hoped none of these was poisonous. Magical creatures were standing around, just off of the path, lit by floating flower lamps.
“Oh Harry, it’s wonderful!” Luna jumped up and down, clapping her hands, before coming in for an over-enthusiastic kiss, knocking Harry to the ground. They both laughed; Harry felt tears of joy coming to his eyes.
They stood up dusting themselves off and entered the room, shutting the door behind them. Harry was surprised to find that on his left was a small picnic basket filled with all kinds of sweets and good foods.
“Oh, goody,” Harry said in a bad attempt at a pun. Luna entered into another fit of laughter.
They set off down the path but quickly deviated from it to get a closer look at a hippogriff basking in the flowerlight. While Luna was performing the bow to the hippogriff- Harry went first- he went a short distance away and found a clearing filled with a field of aster and lily of the valley flowers. A halo of light with an unidentifiable source created a ring in the middle.
“Hey Luna, come look at this!” She bounded over and her jaw dropped in awe.
“Ohmigosh!” she screamed (startling the hippogriff). “Do you know what this means?”
Harry’s blank expression clued Luna in.
“Aster flowers symbolise love and trust, and lilies of the valley mean returning happiness. The light is in the form of a perfect circle. It’s whole. Complete. Harry, I think it’s a sign! The room must be able to tell that we’re meant to be! Oh, Harry, I love you so very much.”
“I love you too Luna.” They embraced for a long while, relishing in each other. “Shall we picnic inside the circle of love?”
“Is that what we’re calling it?” She giggled and nodded.
Pumpkin pasties, chocolate frogs, and cauldron cakes by the dozen made a great feast, filling them with a feeling of pure satisfaction. They talked and laughed and joked for what seemed like hours; time always seemed to speed up around Luna, though it never felt like long enough. Harry doubted that even all the time in the world with her would be enough.
They lay on their backs, watching the ‘night sky’ above them, Luna pointing out constellations and telling stories, and Harry letting her sing-song voice wash over him. He checked his watch. 1:00am?! They were going to be in so much trouble if Filch caught them sneaking back to their houses, and Harry had (stupidly) forgotten his cloak of invisibility.
“And that’s Aquarius - my star sig-”
“Luna, we have to go back. It’s one in the morning!”
She calmly sat up. “Is it that you want to go, or that you feel you must?”
“Of course I don’t want to go, but if Filch catches us…”
“Well we don’t have to leave this room,” she suggested, shrugging and smirking.
“I suppose, but I think Ron and Hermione might get a bit worried…”
“Okay Harry, if that’s what you want.” She kissed him delicately on the cheek.
They gathered up their things and wandered back to the door, hand in hand. Cautiously, Harry peered out. Clear.
Miraculously, they made their way back to the Gryffindor common room entrance without being caught.
“I had a really nice time tonight,” Harry said, realising after the fact how cheesy that sounded.
“Me too,” Luna replied, giggling.
“Goodnight,” Harry whispered, giving her a quick peck before heading into the common room; he hadn’t wanted to linger too long outside for the fear of getting a gruesome punishment. He was home safe. The smell of his girlfriend lingered a while before fading, though not from his mind. He reluctantly dragged himself to bed, holding with him the memories of this marvellous night.
“I love you, Luna,” he whispered under his breath before closing his eyes and drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
I really want there to be a fanfic revolving around the lyrics of Colors by Halsey. It would probably be pretty angsty and I'm not good with angst, but oh my gosh, I bet it would be the best. Like, someone please make this happen.
