Hm, how about instead of this it's modern pirate historian Jake Seresin, who prides himself on being one of the world's best in knowledge of Pirate captain Rooster. He's spent his entire career learning specifically about Rooster, or who is thought to be Bradley Bradshaw, a disgraced Navy captain who turned to piracy after the death of his parents.
But all of his research has him coming up with a name no one has ever recorded besides being Rooster's first mate. Hangman. No stories of what this man might look like, or who is may have been, just scarce tales of the menacing duo running Nassau and the Caribbean with an iron fist and no mercy.
What many tales do say about Hangman though, is that he was more than just Rooster's first mate - many accounts of the pair being intimate, on and off the Carolina vessel.
Jake is obsessed with trying to figure out who this guy is, and ends up travelling to a creepy, deserted cave and finding the lost Carolina, but as soon as he steps onto the deck a storm tears through the area, and he's forced to take cover in the captains quarters.
Only, once the storm is gone, Jake hears noises and people, what sounds like shouting and... are those sea shantys?
"What're you doing in here?" A voice startles him, and Jake whips around to find what can only be Rooster, here in the flesh, smiling at him with the fondest, softest smile Jake has ever seen. Bradshaw raises a brow when Jake remains quiet, stepping closer as his smirk turns more teasing, more heated. "Oh? Are you tryna tell me something, First mate?"
Jake realizes two things right then.
1, he's somehow time travelled back to the 1700 reign of pirates
