Since you've seen the last episode of Titans now a plot bunny/fun idea: Since Jason is in a wheelchair when Dick sees him what if his fate and Bab's fate were switched- so Jason goes the Oracle rout and Babs comes back and does her own version of the Red Hood just as terrifyingly as Jason did but with her own spin. (FYI: this completely ignores the rest of the episode after that clip and is just toying with the concept of Babs and Jay switching since it never occured to me before )
Oh man. Honestly, I think Barbara would be an even more terrifying Red Hood and holy fuck that is a great idea for a canon AU (especially since DC seems to like the idea of Babs/Jason which, I know I’m in the minority, but I’m totally cool with). And frankly, with her dad as a cop who would realistically see killing as a nuanced matter (the law recognizes degrees of severity) she would be even more likely (probably the most likely Bat) to conclude, upon traumatic resurrection after traumatic murder, that some criminals commit acts against their fellow humans, so heinous that regardless of other factors, they forfeit their lives.
Another Oracle!Jason update
Being an oracle can bring with it a good amount of political power. He can see the future. That gives him a big edge in the power game.
This means his favor is greatly desired as he could foretell the future whether fortunate or not. He could be the advantage in a war or in negotiations.
It also means he has a lot of people looking to use, abuse, or get rid of him.
Jason has seen countless assassin and kidnapping attempts, but what everyone fails to realize is that:
Jason can see the future
Jason has been trained as a warrior first and oracle second
Jason is surrounded by very loyal, very dangerous people
Needless to say, no one has gotten close and anyone who's tried suffers greatly
So, Jason has a system for which he does his oracle business.
Dignitaries, military leaders, people looking to make war: pay out the butt in gold and other luxury goods as offerings
Aristocracy, lords and ladies, the rich: pay a pretty hefty sum
The better off commoners (merchants, traders, etc): pay a fairly small fee, usually one shipments worth of furs or gold
Common folk/peasants: pay at most one coin, but he'll also accept things like a wool blanket, a basket of fruits, etc
The poor, orphaned, and those living in the gutter: they only have to pay him one kind word
Another Oracle!Jason piece of lore
Unlike the traditional oracle which acts as a messenger of gods, Jason’s source of sight doesn’t come from a divine source. Instead, his ability to see through time is born purely out of his time training with the All Caste.
Spending years existing outside of time and training to become one of the immortal All Caste warriors, Jason was able to tamp into the magic that exists in the Chamber of All.
So Jason’s sight into time is a bit different than the typical oracle. He doesn’t talk to gods/goddesses. He doesn’t have limited sight. There’s no curse limiting what he says or how people hear it and there’s no losing the ability if he does the naughty.
Jason is limited only by his own morals and choices.
I really enjoyed reading your posts about oracle!Jason verse. If possible, can I ask what the rest of the batfam is like in this universe?
Okay, so some of it might be a bit spoilery. I'll try to avoid it.
Bruce is a lord of Gotham and works as the head of special force of knights that combat big problems like the rogues, invasions, etc.
Dick is his second in command and the golden boy of Gotham.
Tim works as an ambassador and diplomat for the group.
Damian is a prince currently being raised by Talia and Ras. Bruce knows about him, but has never seen him.
Steph is an apprentice knight
Cass is one of Bruce's best knights
Duke is also an apprentice
Kate is in the military
Barbara is the spymaster and shares custody of Cass with Bruce
Hey, sorry if I am disturbing you. But in your Oracle!Jason verse, what are the outlaws doing? I love all five of them, and was wondering where the other four would be... Please don't feel pressured to anything.
I haven’t really gotten around to their part in the story when it comes to plotting and world-building, but they’d definitely still be part of Jason’s team. He probably goes out with them not as an oracle, but as their teammate to beat some bad guy butt.
Hmm, maybe Kori is a slave that either some visitor tries to buy Jason’s favor with or Jason stumbles upon in the market or something
Roy, he’d probably met being thrown out of a tavern and into the mud drunk off his ass to which Jason’s first instinct is to adopt this disaster
Bizarro might be either part of a freakshow circus or elite entertainment thing where Jason buys him away from cruel masters
Artemis...hmm, maybe he runs into her possible in a brawl? She fights for money, dishonored from her home country?
Regardless, he adopts all of them and brings him to his temple where Wintergreen just shakes his head and prepares another room and Slade smirks because of course the kid adopted more strays.
