The Orc who you had fallen for, was the King’s personal guard! Although stern and menacing, he had always been kind to you.
You, the daughter of a Lord who worked on keeping the Queen company, answering her letters and mostly stayed out of sight of the King and his guard!
Since your families fortune was dwindling, your brothers securing marriages to rich young ladies, that made you the only one who wasn’t looked to much. Being a young woman in a family on the brink of ruin, meant that there wasn’t much for you to do other than try and get into the Regents good graces, and hope that you’d find a rich man who could take care of you.
But you’d never had such interest in men. It was always the King’s personal guard who caught your eye. Something about his stoic demeanour always made you feel safe, protected.
At first, you tried to keep your feelings a secret, there was no way that your family would approve of you harbouring such feelings towards the Orc, let alone even think about letting you marry him.
On a fateful night, where the King and Queen held a party, you were delighted when he approached you. You’d never taken him for being the one to make the first move. Not that you weren’t grateful.
That night, the pair of you had danced in the gardens were no one would see you, shared stolen kisses and giggled and laughed like you had never done before.
The pair of you promised to keep this a secret – nothing good would come of people knowing you two were together.
Not even the other Ladies in waiting knew about your relationship.
It was like something out of a novel. A forbidden romance, only a fantasy that could become a reality for a few glorious hours each time the pair of you got together.
It felt good to finally have someone notice you, tell you that you were beautiful, worthy of love and attention. He would leave you gifts in your chambers, with sweet little notes. They were mostly pieces of jewellery, necklaces, bracelets and broaches.
There was a part of you that hoped that one day, you would walk into your bedroom and find a small velvet box, containing a precious ring with that signature singular diamond that signified an engagement.
In one of your secret meetings, you did ask, “why don’t we just run away? Get married and leave all this behind?”
He had let out a snort, “darling, you wouldn’t last a day out there without all this granduer.”
You protested, “I could! I’d do it if it meant we could be together forever!”
At that, your lover had shot a glower at you. It surprised you, you’d never seen him look at you with so much contempt. “Well that’s never going to happen.” He said, harshly. “So get that silly idea out of your head.”
Your heart had chipped upon hearing that. Would it really be so bad to be married to one another? In domestic bliss?
After that conversation, he was cold to you. Colder than normal. He dodged you at every opportunity, even if it was just seeing each other in the halls, he would turn and stalk off in the opposite direction.
While you hadn’t meant to offend him, his reaction to the idea of you two being promised to one another was certainly an unwarranted one. He didn’t need to be so mean about it… but you loved him, and thought that maybe a big gesture of showing him how much you adored him would bring him back around.
So, one evening, you decided to bring a gift to him and deliver it personally. He was always giving you nice things, why couldn’t you do the same?
It was hard, choosing what to get him. What do you gift an Orc who has nearly everything handed to him just for being the King’s personal guard?
After a while, you finally decided. Your family was known for housing a baking empire, and thus, cooking was one of your families forte’s. And so you made him a cake.
With swirls of pink icing and cursive lettering on the top of the cake, you boxed it up after a days hard work and waited until night fall.
Your Orc lived just on the edges of the Palace grounds, and you would be undoubtably spotted if you went during the day. Donning a cloak and pulling up it’s hood, you left your quarters and headed for the Palace grounds.
The guards changed their shifts, and using the unmanned Palace doors, you darted through and raced to the edge of the grounds.
Now that you were on your way there, you realised that you’d never even been to his house before. Your Orc had never invited you, nor had you been close to it while accompanying walks with your Mistress, the Queen.
A tiny little cottage sat just at the edge of the Palaces’ garden walls, warm, inviting orange light flickering in it’s windows, puffs of smoke wafting out of the chimney.
You sped up your already hurried walk. Great, he was home. As you got closer, you saw shadows moving about inside the cottage and the silhouette of a woman.
The smile that had been spread across your face faded, your walk slowing down as you approached the cottage door.
A female Orc appeared in the window, a huge grin spread across her face as she laughed to someone unseen. You recognised her from the kitchens, she was always happy to talk to you about baking if you were ever bored and went down to see what the cooks were doing.
It had been a little while since you’d seen her.
You kept your distance, not wanting to be spotted in the dim lighting. As you watched, you realised that this she was pregnant. She must be on maternity leave then, it would explain her sudden absence in the kitchens.
But… why is she here? In your lovers house?
She was still smiling, nodding to the other person in the cottage with her, before she laughed again and beckoned her company closer.
The box in your hands slipped and split open, all your hard work splatting across the grass as you watched the love of your life, the King’s Guard pull the pregnant Orc into a hug.
Your Orc, your lover gave her a tight squeeze and then kissed her on the lips.
You couldn’t help yourself, you stared in horror as they walked away from the window and vanished further into the cottage.
Vision blurring, you gripped your skirts and bent down to pick up the ruined cake in front of you. Scooping the remains of the sweet treat into what remained of the box, tears fell.
You couldn’t believe it. You, were the other woman? To a pregnant lady who clearly had your lover wrapped tightly around her finger?
All the words you had exchanged, all the compliments and reassurances of your Orc… were lies? How could he do that to you?
The tears became too heavy and you couldn’t even see the cake in front of you anymore. Fingers covered in icing, you put your head in your hands, stood and ran off further into the Palace grounds.
You didn’t care if they found the cake out there, it’s not like people in the Palace wouldn’t find it strange that you came back covered in sugary sweetness.
It’s not like you could tell anyone of your affair either, everyone would look down on you, gossip and then you would never have a good life after that.
And your family’s reputation would be in the gutter. Their daughter, an adulteress and homewrecker? It didn’t matter that you never knew, your standing would still be tarnished.
A quiet trickle of running water hit your ears, causing you to stop your run and fall to your knees, no longer able to contain your shrieks of heartbreak.
How could you have been so stupid? Of course there was no way that an Orc like him and a Lady like yourself could have gotten married… or that someone as amazing as him would have fallen for a woman like you.

Oh my god, this Orc is 100% affectionate. He loves running up behind you and grabbing you, twirling you around.
He just loves seeing a smile on your face, and that makes him extra affectionate. He just wants to kiss you, especially all over your face, making you blush.
He's also very physical, when on a raid he'll have you by his side, either holding your hand or having you on his shoulder.
You know how your relationship started - it was through friendship. He had broken the chains that your captors kept on you day and night. And gave you a harsh decision.
Stay here and be found by those who want you enslaved. Or come with him, and live a life of freedom. It took you a moment, but you chose the right decision.
That's how you went from being freed by him, to finding friendship, and then to best friends. He was always checking on you, helping you to acclimatise with everyone.
Blend in, learn their way of life. And he didn't leave it to other people to teach you, no, he taught you himself.
Some may say he was harsh at times, but you always knew he did it for your betterment. Everything he did was to make sure you were growing. Not stuck in a victim mindset.
He even went so far as to challenge one of the assholes who was making fun of you behind your back. He won of course, and no one spoke ill of you again. Because your best friend, your orc, was one of the fiercest of them all.
OH OF COURSE HE LIKES TO CUDDLE. You live in the sand dunes, and cuddling makes sleeping a lot more comfortable. Also this Orc male is just so affectionate, any opportunity he gets to kiss you, hold you, keep you close - he takes it.
His favourite way to cuddle is when he's lying fully on his back, and you climb on top of him. He laughs at how you have to catch your balance every once in a while. You'll look up at him with an exasperated look and he laughs; a big belly one. And helps you stay still.
Yes he wants to settle down, but not quite yet. He wants to show you everything the world can offer first. Seeing as though you came from being a slave, you didn't know the world and what was in it.
He's very good at cooking, as that was how he contributed to the horde when he was younger. By catching food, by baking bread etc. He still bakes bread for the horde.
And because there isn't ... someone who comes to clean the tents, he learnt to clean up after himself. Yeah, he might take a day to fully clean his boots, or weapons, but he does get it done.
He couldn't. He could never say those words to you, instead, he would challenge someone he knew he couldn't win in a fight, and go out that way. He'd rather die than break your heart.
And if he did have to break up with you, it would generally be for a good reason. Probably to save your life. But still, he'd rather die than live without you. You've changed him and he's changed you - in the best way possible. You're a unit. A team. There's never one without the other.
Loves commitment, and adores it, it's you who he's waiting on. He wants you to be ready, even though he is 100% ready to marry you. To bind himself to you forever. He isn't one to shy away from it. Doesn't understand why others don't want to have a life partner.
Very, very gentle with you emotionally. He's been the one to open your mind and heart to new possibilities. He skyrocketed your confidence, he gave you both a real and hypothetical shoulder to cry on. He let you open up about your trauma - and walked through it with you. Advice? He's great at it.
Loves hugs, and loves 'em real good. He loves the feeling of your arms wrapped around him. Your warmth is a reprieve, even if it isn't cold, he loves to feel your warmth. When it comes to the other Orcs, he'll give them a clap on the back or a running jump when they've had a big victory.
But with you, he's kind, warm and gentle with his hugs. Oh, apart from the surprise ones. But he knows you love them.
𝐈 = 𝐈 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 (𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑓𝑎𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑜 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑦 𝑠𝑎𝑦 𝑡𝘩𝑒 𝐿-𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑑?)
When he proposed to you, that's when he first said, "I love you." Because he knew the first time he said it, he needed to put a ring on your finger.
But he did want to say it a lot earlier than when he proposed. He felt it mere days after knowing you.
He gets quite jealous when he sees someone HE's intimidated by, flirting with you. But when it's someone he sees beneath him, then he doesn't really care.
Unless you're looking at him with those 'help me' eyes, then he becomes incredibly angry and possessive.
Your first kiss was very gentle. He didn't want to hurt you with his tusks, but because (I know this is logic coming in here ew) your head-to-head ratio is very different, you basically fit in between the tusks. There was a lot of light, soft laughter. A lot of blushing, from the both of you.
He loves when you kiss his eyelids, especially when he's just about to fall asleep
His favourite place to kiss you is on your shoulder, or your wrists where the manacles were. You still have the scars from them.
𝐋 = 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 (𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑 𝑐𝘩𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛?)
Oh my god, your Orc is amazing around children. He thinks they're brilliant. They're such imaginative little creatures, and they say the most funniest things.
He'd love to have a huge family...but he doesn't know if that's in the cards for you two...
𝐌 = 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑡𝘩 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑚?)
He's always awake before you, having gone out hunting for breakfast, or helping to make breakfast when the meat was eaten at dinner. Sometimes he makes eggs, (his specialty is flat bread).
He always gives you kisses good morning - if you're awake to notice them or not.
He brings you breakfast in bed, because he knows how loud everyone is and he doesn't want you to feel overwhelmed at the beginning of the day
Oh, and he's usually humming everywhere he goes...
𝐍 = 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 (𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑖𝑔𝘩𝑡𝑠 𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑡𝘩 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑚?)
Oh, nights are the best. When the candles have been blown out, and you both get comfy in each other's arms, he asks you which story you want him to tell. He's got an infinite amount. Some true and some not. He can make anything up on the spot, it's quite impressive.
You usually fall asleep to the gentle lull of his voice and the thud, thud, thud of his heartbeat.
He isn't a closed person to you. He opens up to you, to encourage you to do the same. But with others, he keeps things to himself. Besides his history as a slave himself. He's proud of how far he's come. He doesn't want to overwhelm you with all this information about himself and scare you away.
(Not that it would, you accept everything he is)
𝐏 = 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑖𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑦?)
By you? He's as patient as can be.
By others? He's yelling, he's telling people off, he's telling people to hurry up - and then if you surprise him by standing behind him, then he's instantly quiet.
"Oh, dear, just making sure ... everything is going smoothly..."
This is the stupidest question because he remembers every goddamn thing about you. From the smallest details, to your birthday, to your family's names and how they treated you. He always remembers anniversaries. Everything you say to him about yourself is like a little piece in this puzzle he's working on. And he feels so grateful that you open up to him.
When you officially chose him. Your wedding day - he always thinks of it when you're away from him.
The way you looked, the smile on your rosey cheeks. The way there seemed to be a glow about you, like a god had chosen to illuminate you for the whole day
The feast was mighty, as was the drinking
But the best bits were when you were alone. Not just the sexual bits, but when you both got excited to be married. To be recognised as partners forever.
10000000000% Protective. You've spoken to him about letting you do independent things while away from home, and he agrees to let you, but he's worrying the whole time.
He just doesn't want anything bad to happen to you. You're his treasure. His most prized possession. You're his love. His soulmate.
Your Orc protects with his body, with his bare hands. He would go down swinging without a weapon to protect you.
He never expects you to protect him - he's five times the size of you, and is very battle savvy.
But you protect him by keeping a level head, by not panicking if he isn't there.
He remembers EVERY ANNIVERSARY DATE, he loves giving you gifts and makes sure that he does an equal amount of chores (and does some of yours as well).
This Orc is CRAZY about you, absolutely head over heels in love with you
The gifts are always over the top as well, but they're always stolen (because of the raiding) but you don't care. You love that your new necklace or ring used to be owned by an asshole. Now they have a proper home with you.
Farting, and burping really loudly. He has no shame about it. Until you looked at him with a shocked look, but in a surprise twist - you burst out laughing. A true laugh, snorting, grabbing at your stomach. You weren't used to such brazen acts being done with a stone face.
Now wait wait; I'm talking, about how their tusks look - some choose to accessorise them.
Some do their hair in special ways (specifically your significant other). Who absolutely adores his hair. He loves how long it is, and how shiny it is. It reminds him ... of his family. Of before they were enslaved.
In terms of comparing himself to other Orcs in the horde, he does realise that he isn't the prettiest, but he damn well is the most ... sexiest looking. Very masculine, and intimidating. And he likes that. He would rather look intimidating than beautiful.
HE WOULD DEFINITELY FEEL INCOMPLETE WITHOUT YOU. It would be torture, for him to be without you. To wake up and not have you beside him, to not see you there next to him. To walk the world without having your hand to hold. You're the only person he wants to walk the world with.
This isn't two halves of a whole type of thing, no. You were both whole and completely perfect beings on your own.
This is ... he would rather die, or live the worst life possible if you weren't around. He didn't know how much happiness his life lacked without you. Now that he's experienced it, he can't let you go.
𝐗 = 𝐗𝐭𝐫𝐚 (𝐴 𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑚 𝘩𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑚.)
He really, really enjoys having his hair played with. Especially pampered; having it shampooed, conditioned, and braided. Like a mini spa day. OH, and he LOVES spa days. He will gather a bunch of oils, special tools and things and take you down to the river. There, you'll both cover yourself in oils and soothing ointments, to lay in the sun with the cool breeze wafting over you.
Oh c'mon, he's an Orc, there is nothing physically he would find disgusting. It would be how a person acts and how they treat others - that's what would turn him off or make him feel disgusted.
For example, someone unkind to those smaller than them, or who yell at children and the elderly with malicious intent.
He also hates those who are close-minded. Who are too traditional and conventional, who cannot see past their own opinions to let new ones in.
𝐙 = 𝐙𝐳𝐳 (𝑊𝘩𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑠𝑙𝑒𝑒𝑝 𝘩𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝘩𝑒𝑖𝑟𝑠?)
Snores.
Snores.
Very loudly snores.
And rolls over in his sleep, practically crushing you. He's much better at it now, the whole not accidentally killing you in your sleep thing, but he still sometimes forgets that there is a human atop him. It should be noted, that his snoring has become a lot more comforting. To you it means: I'm here, you're safe. You told him that during a fight one time and he broke down in tears.
Your Orc’s vision is blurry as he comes to below the rubble. He’s paralysed, can’t rotate his head to look around and see what’s going on.
But he can smell it. Iron and smoke mix to mark the scent of death and calamity. His eyes adjust as his eyes dart around frantically.
Black clouds plume above him, a fire crackling in the corner of his eye, its heat warming the left side of his face.
Screams echo around him, their owners out of sight. The whinny of horses follows them, your Orc’s stomach dropping as he realises what’s going on.
Monster Hunters.
Your Boyfriend tries to push himself up, search for some kind of weapon to defend his home with. Only for his body to refuse to comply, keeping him rooted to the ground.
He needs to defend his home. He needs to stand up; he needs to protect you-
His blood freezes in his veins. Where are you?
Your Orc remembers that the pair of you got into bed together. He remembers hearing you laugh as he scuttled his fingers up your waist, tickling you.
He remembers the feeling of your soft lips pressing against his, wishing him goodnight.
You can’t have gone far. While you were a human, you had grown close to the Orcs and their camp. You wouldn’t just abandon them when they needed you the most. Let alone just up and leave him.
An ear-piercing shriek rips through the air. Your boyfriend’s eyes dart to the source, where he sees you.
Soot and red cover your ripped nightgown. He’d never seen you run so fast in your life. Never seen you look so scared before.
He tried to shout at you, to tell you he’s over here, he’s coming to help you. But his voice remained shut away in his throat, his mouth refusing to form the words.
Your Orc watches as you trip and fall over a tent nail and scramble into the rubble of it. A man on horseback advances on you, his cloak fluttering in the wind as he cracks a whip in the air.
The Orc tries to shout as the whip’s end wraps tightly around your ankle. The horseman cackles as he drags you from the rubble, you shouting, screaming and kicking at the leather whip.
Tears are streaking down your cheeks as the horse rider dismounts and walks over to you. His face twists and contorts as he yanks you to your feet and throws you over his shoulder.
You beat your fists on his back, shrieking at him to let you go. But you stop as your lock eyes with your boyfriend.
Rage rips through your Orc’s body, but it’s not enough to force himself up. The roar in his throat never breaches his lips.
Your tears roll down your cheeks at a faster pace now. You bury your head in your hands as the Monster Hunter throws you onto the back of the horse and clambers up onto it.
The Monster Hunter digs his feet into the sides of the horse and charges away from the camp, you still sobbing on the back of the horse.
And finally, your Orc speaks.
“No!”
The Orc bolts upright in his bed, chest heaving up and down. He looks around frantically at the dark interior of his tent, the smell of smoke and iron gone from the air.
His eyes flicker to the tent’s entrance, then to his weapon propped against the bed frame.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
Your Orc whips around to face you. Worry fills your eyes as your eyebrows furrow. Your soft hands cradle the muscle of his upper arm.
The adrenaline dies as your Orc Boyfriend looks you over.
There’s no blood on your nightgown, no soot or dirt smudged on your cheeks.
The Orc freezes for a moment, watching you. “How… I don’t…” A sob chokes his words.
“You’re shaking,” your voice was so soft, so quiet compared to the screaming he’d just heard.
The Orc looks down at his hands, watching as his fingers tremble. He swallows hard as he looks back at you.
“You’re alright.” He manages.
You give him a sympathetic smile. “Of course I’m alright, why wouldn’t I be?”
Without warning, the Orc pulls you into a hug. He buries his head in your neck, inhaling your scent.
You flinch at his sudden affection, but lean into him once you hear a shuddering breath escape him. Wrapping your arms around him, the Orc lets out another breath.
You’re alive and well. The camp isn’t being attacked.
It was all a nightmare. A bad dream.

It was strange for your Orc Boyfriend not to pick up his phone.
He was normally available at all hours of the day. Usually, you’d never call him unless absolutely necessary - the last thing you wanted was to be one of those overbearing girlfriends.
At the start of your relationship, everything was amazing.
Every time you met up at the end of the week for a date, he always brought a freshly cut bouquet of flowers paired with a broad smile across his usually intimidating face.
After the six month mark of being together, he suggested that you move in with him and you gladly accepted the invitation.
It was nice to come home to a partner, who greeted you with open arms, a kiss on the cheek and an, “hi honey, how was your day?”
But the past few weeks had become… strange.
It was the change in the air when you woke up, the way that whenever you tried to display any kind of physical affection, your Orc would shrug you off, grunt in annoyance.
It was fine the first few times - sometimes people just aren’t in the mood for that kind of thing. But the tense air never left your flat, and your boyfriend’s company became less and less frequent in the evenings.
Maybe he just needed some time alone, you’d reasoned. Even you needed alone time, and since you both now shared a living space, that became more important than ever.
You knew you shouldn’t place a timer on these things, however the need for his ‘time alone’ became longer and longer. So, you asked him when he got back from work if you’d done something wrong.
You had already searched your mind for things that you might have done to annoy him, but nothing came to mind.
He just gave the same, nonchalant grunt, “no. Why would you think you’d done something wrong?”
Well, if it wasn’t you, then maybe it was work? He had been staying out in the evenings more often.
That was your follow up question, to which he also replied, “no. What makes you think that?” After which, he gave you a glower and stalked to your shared room.
Not wanting to start anything, you’d just left it at that.
As Boys Night went on, you began to bite at your fingernails, staring at your phone on your coffee table.
The screen was black, blank. What were you watching it for? A call? A message? A DM from him?
Usually, your Orc would text you when he was on his way back home or would let you know that he and his friends were going to be staying out later than initially planned.
As the evening got later and later, you knew something was wrong. Picking up your phone, you dialled your boyfriend’s number.
Nails still in your mouth as the dial tone went on, once, twice, three, four-
“I’m sorry,” the robotic voice said from the other end of the line, “but the person you’re trying to reach-“ you hung up the phone and tried again.
This time it went straight to voicemail.
You flinched, frowning at your phone. Did he intentionally hang up on you?
Not being able to stand the lack of communication any longer, you tracked his phone to a club called ‘Eden’, picked up your coat and keys, and left your flat.
There had to be an explanation for this, there had to be. You’d get to the club, and find your Orc absolutely hammered.
Your heart ached at the image of his face lighting up at seeing you… the way it used to when you were first seeing each other.
You wished he’d look at you like that again.
Sucking in deep breaths, you drove to the club and found the line outside it to be relatively small.
After waiting in line for what seemed like an eternity, you were let in and greeted by the thudding music, sweaty clubbers dancing and swaying to the beat.
Navigating through them, you looked down at your phone, which guided you to the bar, where you stopped dead in your tracks.
A smile you hadn’t seen for weeks, was plastered on your Orc Boyfriends face as his arm was slung around a human woman, glitter decorating her cheeks, dark hair and revealing outfit on, hand on your boyfriends chest, her eyes half-lidded and looking at him as if he was the most attractive Orc in the room.
They chatted animatedly, your Orc getting closer, and closer to her face, as if he was going to kiss her.
It took a moment for the both of them to notice you, but when your Orc did, his face fell.
You were too stunned to say anything, and so you turned and walked straight back to the exit.
The night's cold air stung your cheeks as you freed yourself from the humidity of the club atmosphere, eyes stinging with hot tears.
You bit your lip, trying to fight them back as you heard your boyfriend's voice behind you. “Love, what are you-”
“Don’t you ‘love’ me!” You spat at him. Wheeling around on your heel, you glowered at him. “What the hell is wrong with you?! I was worried sick about you, and here you are, chatting up some woman at a club!”
Your Orc flinched at your harsh words, as if the accusation was completely and utterly false.
He recovered quickly however, his usual glower returning. “You aren’t even supposed to be here,” he growled, jabbing a finger at you. “It’s Boys night, the one night of the week I get to have time to myself!”
“Really?!” You shrieked. “Because it seems as though every night of the week you ‘have to yourself’!”
“Yeah and maybe I need that time to myself, because I have such a clingy girlfriend at my side all the fucking time!” He snapped back at you.
You recoiled at the harsh words. Staring at him, you searched his face for any kind of regret for what he just said.
But his tirade continued, “‘have I done anything wrong?’” He imitated you, “‘you’re not mad at me are you?’ ‘If there’s something wrong you’d tell me, wouldn’t you?’ I’m fucking sick of it!”
The tears rolled down your cheeks as the Orc opposite you rubbed his face with his palms, frustratedly, letting out an irritated sigh.
“I’m sorry,” your voice cracked, “that I wanted to make sure my boyfriend was okay. I was only asking, because you’d been pulling away from me,” wiping the tears from your face, you raised your own voice, “I’m still trying to make this work, because I love you!”
“Have you ever considered that maybe I don’t?” The Orc snapped back.
“Then why did you ask me to move in with you?!”
“Because I didn’t think you were going to be this annoying!”
It was like your already fragile, glass heart had been shattered.
What happened to that friendly, loving Orc you’d first met? The one who played with your hair when you first woke up in the morning? The one who would bring home gifts and say, “I saw this and thought of you.”
A wave of clarity hit you, like calm waters after a chaotic storm at sea: this Orc never loved you - at least, not in the way you did.
It surprised you how steady your voice was when you spoke, “fine.” You shrugged. “I’ll go and get my stuff.” Turning on your heel, you walked back to your car, parked just across the street from the club.
For a moment, the Orc didn’t say anything, but still followed after you. “(Y/N), come on I didn’t-” His voice came out soft, weak.
“No,” you opened the car door, looking back at your now ex-boyfriend, “no, it’s fine, I’ll gather my stuff up and I’ll never annoy you again.”
And with that, you got into the car and drove off, away from Eden.
Away from your Orc.

“Ouch!” Your Orc hissed, jerking in pain as you pressed alcohol soaked cloth to his arm. “You can’t be more gentle, can you?”
“Well if you stopped moving,” you returned through gritted teeth, “then it wouldn’t hurt as much. It’s not me that’s causing you pain, it’s the chemical. If I’m any more gentle about it, the pain will just last longer and it will sting a lot more.”
The giant gash in his arm just did not want to stop bleeding. You let out a sigh of irritation as you realised it was going to need stitches. “Hold onto it for me?”
Grumbling, your Orc Boyfriend pressed held the soaked cloth in place as you reached for your medical box behind you, “how did this happen then?”
“I was in the gym,” your boyfriend started, “and this goblin wouldn’t stop trying to take pictures of me, so I told him to put the phone down. He said ‘no, it’s a public space, I can film who I damn well likes’ and his smug face pissed me off. So… I might have gotten a little rough with him.”
You sighed again. Typical of an Orc to start the physical fight. Pulling out a needle and medical thread, you cleaned them, nodding as your boyfriend went on, “and then this little bastard pulls out a knife and just slashed me open!”
Your head whipped around to look at your partner, “what the fuck?!” you set the needle and thread down on your bedside table. “You’re not hurt anywhere else, are you? Oh my God, why did they even let that guy in with a weapon!?” You surveyed your Orcs topless body, searching his green skin for any kind of graze or cut.
“Something about it being for Goblin arts practice.” Your boyfriend grunted, annoyed. “Anyway, he’s then restrained by some of the staff, the police are called and there was also an ambulance.”
“Why didn’t you let the paramedics stitch you up?!” You asked, aghast. “Why would you refuse it and come back here!?”
Meeting your boyfriends gaze, he gives you a sheepish look. “… Because you used to sew up my cuts when I was a cage fighter?”
“That was only on the fly!” You snapped, “I’m not a medical professional, I could have really hurt you doing that!”
He scoffed, “we all could have gotten really hurt doing that. It was underground and illegal for all of us to be there.”
You rolled your eyes and picked up the needle and thread again. You set to work sewing up your boyfriends wound, “that was a very, very long time ago. I don’t know if I’m still any good at this.”
“I trust you.” The Orc said, smiling. “You were always gentle with me whenever I’d come out of the ring.”
You couldn’t hold back your smile, “I was only gentle with you because I liked you.”
Back then, it was difficult to find any kind of joy. You were in a lot of trouble with loan sharks and had to do something to pay them back.
You’d been kicked out medical school, were drowning in their debt… but there’s no reason as to why you couldn’t put to use the little skills you’d learnt.
So you started helping illegal cage fighters with their injuries. They paid well and everyone had a don’t ask, don’t tell policy. Although half of your pay check got taken back by the loan sharks, the fighters you did heal would give you tips of 100 coins, sometimes up to 1000, depending on how they were feeling, so that helped a great deal.
Your boyfriend, known as ‘Big Money’ for his green skin and huge muscular body, was the top fighter there. If you were smart, you betted on ‘Big Money.’ It’s in the name isn’t it? You want to win? You bet big.
Every time you took care of him, he always took you out to dinner as thanks. And eventually, he was taking you out just because, and before long, you were dating.
Everyone knew you as ‘Big Money’s girlfriend’ and rarely gave you any slack… apart from the occasional too big for his boots fighter who snarked you or shoved you away when you tried to tend to his injuries.
When that happened, everyone would treat said fighter like he was a bomb about to go off; no one wanted to be near him, or associated with him And who would? If Big Money was going to get you for disrespecting his girl, you would stay clear too.
A cold shot went through you, “you don’t think that Goblin knew who you were, do you?” you asked.
Your Boyfriend stiffened at the question. He was quiet for a little longer than you’d have liked, but he answered you. “I’m not sure. I didn’t recognise him when I saw him, he might have just been a spectator.”
“Either way… it’s still a concern.”
Your boyfriend was in a similar situation to you too, but the difference was that he was hundreds more in debt than you were. Which is why he was put in the ring. Partly as a punishment, partly as a way to earn back all the money he’d lost.
The pair of you wanted to escape that place. Not because you didn’t want to pay off your debts, but because of the barbarity of the environment.
Every time you saw your Orc coming out of the ring, he just looked worse and worse. Black eyes, shattered orbital bones, fractured fingers and toes, tendon snapping and a whole list of other, much gorier things were what made you both realise you wanted out.
With each time you had to fix up his injuries, your hands became even more unsteady.
The event organisers had no clue of your relationship with their ‘Big Money’ and often berated you, threatening to raise your interest if you couldn’t do your job properly.
“We need to leave.” Your Orc had urged you after a particularly bad fight. Both his eyes were swollen and he had stitches sewn into his bottom lip. He paced up and down your cramped bedroom, “this is getting bad, like, too bad. Who knows what they’ll do if-”
“Just stop saying things like that!” You had said, grasping the sides of your head. “I don’t think I can cope with talking about that kind of thing, if they find out we’re thinking about running, they’ll kill us!”
“No, they won’t.” Your Orc had said, firmly. “They won’t. I won’t let them lay a finger on us.”
He had bent down to you, squeezed your hands reassuringly. “I can do this, get us out of there, but you have to trust me okay? I know a guy, who knows a guy. They can get us out and we won’t have to worry about the debt again.”
When you began to shake your head, your boyfriends puffy eyes meets yours. “Please, (Y/N), trust me on this, they’ll believe we’re dead and gone, they won’t come looking for us!”
The final straw came when your Orc was knocked unconscious for two hours. They’d had him in fight after fight, breaks of ten seconds all but before he had to get back in the cage and fight on.
You had to fight back tears as you shakily stitched up a split eyebrow and tried to keep your cool from going off on the event organiser, who sat behind you and counted bills, feet up on the table in his ironed clean suit, paid for in blood money.
And when your boyfriends stitches had failed to hold together and he went down and out… the blame fell to you.
That was it.
You knew you both had to leave.
Your Orc had woken up with no apparent brain injuries and as soon as you were both able to speak again, you told him, “that guy who knows a guy, how much money does he want from us and how soon can he get us out of here?”
From that point it was simple: a fire would be started, people would have to clear and escape the premises, and that’s when the two of you would run.
You remember what it was like, preparing for it. You had to get your blood drawn every two weeks, not a lot, but just enough for people to know that something had happened to you during the confusion.
Your boyfriend did the same thing. He got all of his – limited payments, just enough for him to eat off of – in cash, so he saved and saved for weeks, you did too.
And the moment that fire broke out, you’d never felt such relief.
The pair of you took off in the crowd and the guy, who knew a guy, spilled the blood you had drawn in those earlier weeks.
You’d both gotten into an unmarked van, before being dropped off in a city where nobody knew your names, your past or what you’d had to do to become free.
Once the adrenaline of getting caught had worn off, the pair of you had celebrated with buying a new flat and staring new careers.
You got into alternative medicine, and now healed people through those means, while your boyfriend became a fitness trainer.
And overall, everything seemed to be going well… until today that was.
The guy your boyfriend knew, had said that you had to avoid being photographed, filmed and having any kind of digital trace if you wanted to avoid being found.
You had completely forgotten about that part. Life had been so good that your past had felt like a nightmare.
But if your anxiety was correct, it seemed like you would need to pack up, go on the run again. Or find a way to get that footage off of the Goblin and delete it… and that’s assuming that he hadn’t already put it on social media or sent it to the event organisers, if he was connected to them.
“Hey,” your Orcs soft voice broke you out of your trace state. You tied off the stitches as he put the knuckle of his finger under your chin and forced you to look at him.
“Whatever happens, we’re going to be alright.” He said, firmly. “No one is going to try and hurt us. I’ll get in contact with my guy, and we’ll see what he can do. Who knows? That little bastard might have just been running a fitness page or something. Since he had a knife, he might just do this sort of thing a lot and expects to get into fights.”
You smiled, grateful for his reassurance. “Yeah.”
Sometimes, occams’ razor is the way to keep your head above water. You still made a mental note to pack a duffle bag full of valuables to make sure that you could both shoot off if you needed to.
But you trusted that your Orc Boyfriend would keep you safe. He’d done so all this time, so what would stop him now?

After the many congratulations, the hard clasps on the back and the exhausting night was over, your Orc boyfriend held his child in his arms, while you fell deeper into well deserved sleep.
When you’d told him you were pregnant, it had shocked him. He didn’t think that anything would come of your time together, let alone a baby. It’s not that he didn’t love you, he did, would do anything for you.
He thought since you two were different kinds of beings, there was a very slim chance that the pair of you would have a child.
You’d told him with tears in your eyes, worried about how he'd react. Would he start shouting? Get angry with you over something you had no control over?
But none of that had happened. Instead, he had taken your hands in his and assured you that he wasn’t going anywhere.
After getting over the shock of the initial news, your Orc began to make preparations for the baby.
He chopped wood and began to construct a cradle. He sought out animals and skinned them to make blankets, bought some of the best fabric he could find to make clothes from.
Since you were going to be doing the main job of carrying and having the baby, he decided he was going to do all the preparation for when the baby is born.
You had asked to help him, but your Orc boyfriend scolded you for even asking. “Get back into bed, you’re not going to do any hard labour, you’re already doing enough as it is.”
“It's not like I'm a glass orniment! I want to do something to help!” You’d protested. “I can’t let you do all this while I put my feet up.”
Sighing, your Orc had given you some fabric, needle and thread. He was good at manual labour, half of keeping the camp fed and moving meant being good with your hands.
But more delicate work like sewing? He was useless. Some Orcs in the camp had a knack for it. But every time your boyfriend picked up a needle and threat, his thick fingers would bend the metal pin, thus rendering it useless.
So, for making clothes, he left that up to you.
As your stomach expanded, he finished working on important things like cribs and toys, he found himself with nothing to do.
The other Orcs had laid him off from doing any other kinds of work in the camp, so he could spend more time with you, so he resigned himself to watching you sew.
He found it so peaceful to watch you. Your eyes so concentrated on the fabric and thread in front of you, it was hard not to gawk at you as you worked.
Your Orc had heard about pregnancy glows in human women, and boy did you have one. But glow was the wrong word to describe it, he thought, you raidiated.
“You’re staring at me again,” you’d smiled one evening.
The Orc who laid on the side of his bed, hand propping up his head, gave a dreamy smile. “How can I not? You look gorgeous.”
You’d tried to hide your smile, embarrassed. “You make it sound like I’m some kind of Goddess.”
“Well would I be wrong for thinking that?” He asked, “everyone stares at you now, it would be hard not to think that of you from how the rest of the camp acts.”
Apart from himself, everyone in the camp was excited to meet your baby. When the news first began to spread through the camp, the Orc women had tossed out your boyfriend out of the tent. They all crowded around you, making it difficult for him to even get a look at what they were saying to you.
When he’d tried to protest, get back to you, they’d all squawked at him to leave you and them alone. When he was finally allowed back in, you were grinning from ear to ear, while one of the Orc woman stayed by your side.
He was glad that the women were around when he wasn't. As much as he would like to have shared an understanding with your plight, there was no way he could.
So he was happy that the other women of the camp were there to support you.
“What did they talk to you about when they threw me out that night?” Your boyfriend asked as you examined your sewing progress.
You narrowed your eyes at the small shirt in front of you. You answered, “they all came in to say that if I needed anything, I could call on them. They’d drop everything they were doing to come and help me. Oh, and that one of them would always be around to help if something started to happen.”
Taking your eyes off your sewing, you looked at him and placed an absent-minded hand on your stomach. “One of them said it looks like the baby is due any day now.” You told him, “you’ll be around, won’t you?”
“Of course I will.” Your boyfriend assured. “I wouldn’t miss the birth of my baby for the world.”
And for the next couple of days, he stayed in the camp. All the other Orcs waited as well, like it was their child that they were expecting.
Your water broke a few hours after your Orc had gone to drink with his others. They were in the middle of discussing who would win between a Werewolf and a Vampire, when one of the Orc women rushed over.
She gave your boyfriend a hard smack on the back of the head, which made your boyfriend spat out his drink and glowered at her. “What the hell was that for?!”
“Can’t you hear that!?” She snapped at him.
Silence filled the air, before being punctuating by a wail. Your wail.
He was on his feet instantly, face flushing. When had it happened? And why didn’t he hear it?!
“Idiot can’t even hear the birth of his own baby.” His attacker had breathed indignantly. She rounded on the rest of the Orcs, who were all looking sheepishly at her, like they were expecting to be hit as well. But she commanded, “go and get some warm water and blankets, all of you!”
They scattered like a group of scared rats as your boyfriend left them and went to his tent.
He found you hunched over, with the other women of the camp. Your Orc wanted to step in, to hold your hand, do something to help you, but at the look of one of the other women in the tent, he backed out and waited with baited breath outside his tent.
Other Orcs came forward to stay with him as he waited. “This has always been a women’s thing.” One of the older Orcs of the camp comforted him. “They don’t like having the fathers in there because they feel like it’s intimidating.”
He jerked his head to the entrance of your boyfriends tent. “She’s in safe hands, your woman. And we’re here for you too.” A few other Orcs who’d gathered around your boyfriend murmured in agreement.
It was agony to wait outside as you cried. Your Orc boyfriend had never felt so helpless to do anything to help you. It was like all the things he had done for the baby these past few months, were nothing compared to what you were doing at that moment.
He felt guilty for getting your pregnant in the first place.
But all that stopped when your shouts of pain stopped and were replaced by the infantile cries of new life.
All the Orcs around him tensed at the sound, your Boyfriend standing from his seat at the front of the tent. He wanted to go in, to see you and your child, but he worried about getting cursed out by the other Orcs inside.
After what seemed like an eternity, one of them opened the tent flap and beckoned him inside. He had gone in without a word to his others outside the tent.
But as he caught a glimpse of you, sweaty and exhausted in bed, he stopped dead in his tracks.
The other women in the tent looked at each other with knowing smiles as they rinsed their bloody hands in bowls of water. Some were folding up bloody towels, while another sat on the side of your bed. One woman checking your temperature with the back of their hand to your forehead.
They moved out of the way as your Orc approached you, who was completely transfixed by the bundle wrapped in furs and blankets in your arms. Your tired eyes darted away for only a second as you looked at him, “she’s gorgeous, isn’t she?”
A lump in your boyfriends throat formed, “’she’?” He croaked.
You nodded, tears welling up in your eyes again.
Your Boyfriend leaned in closer and put a hand over his mouth as he laid eyes on his baby girl for the first time.
She was a lot smaller than most other Orc babies he’d seen. At a quick glance, you might have mistaken her for being a human baby; But the child undeniably held Orcish features. Small tusks jutted out from her bottom lip, her skin was pale green like a lily pad. Her nose was human shaped, but upturned slightly. Her ears were more rounded than any other Orcs, clearly shown from her human heritage.
She was perfect.
“That’s my baby.” Your boyfriend said, stupidly.
You gave another nod as tears began to run down you cheeks. “Do you want to hold her?”
Your Boyfriend almost let out a cry as you asked. Gently passing over the bundle, your Orc held his child in his arms and allowed himself to cry. She weighed like nothing, quite different from Orc babies, who weighed a ton.
He looked at you as you settled back in the bed. “You are so amazing.” He sniffed. “Really. I mean it love.”
It didn’t seem like you could hear him though, as your eyes drifted shut and you fell asleep.
Your boyfriend hadn’t realised that the women were still at the front of the tent, watching. They rushed him up, as they whispered to him, “she needs rest. Babies fine, for the moment, so go and show her off.”
The Orc had almost completely forgotten about the crowd of Orcs outside the tent as the women pushed him out. But as he exited, the whole crowd’s faces lit up like fireflies.
They all darted forward to get a look at your child, some clapping your Orc hard on the back as they congratulated him.
He felt as though he didn’t deserve it though, it’s not like he did all the heavy lifting during your pregnancy.
“Look at those tusks! The girls not even ten minutes out of the womb and they already look strong enough to rip through meat!”
“And her skin! If it weren’t for the tusks, you wouldn’t know she was one of us!”
“Oh but isn’t her face cute, look at those chubby cheeks.”
As their chatter got louder, your boyfriend pulled his daughter to his chest and shot them all a glare, “be quiet!” he hissed at them. He was hyper aware that you needed to rest at the moment and he was not about to let a group of excited Orcs wake you.
They all fell silent, some of them grinning. “Dad instincts are kicking in.” One of them whispered.
Dad. That’s what he was now, a dad.
Once the crowd had dispersed, it was early morning. Even though he hadn’t done anything but hold a baby in his arms, he still felt as though he may fall asleep at any moment.
But as he reentered the tent, took a seat on the chair beside your bed, he forced himself to stay awake, alert to keep an eye on the baby.
So long as he was alive, he would never allow any harm to come to you, or your daughter.
Even if it meant losing sleep over it.
Your Orc watched your back as you slept, his heart soaring as he realised that there was never anything he could do to repay you for this gift you had given him.
And honestly? He didn’t care. He would gladly spend the rest of his life indebted to such an amazing woman like you.

First, you’d dropped a whole basket of freshly caught fish, where they’d splattered all over the ground and got covered in mud from the rain fall earlier.
As you bent down to pick them up, that didn’t stop a few passing Orcs from complaining about your clumsiness.
“Great, now we have to eat dirt.”
“Who let the human carry them anyway?”
Ok, ok, alright. You’ll be eating this food too, you get where the others are coming from and you could have been a little bit more careful.
You gave them all an apologetic smile, turned and approached the Chef at the other end of the camp.
“I’m really sorry about that,” you said to him, handing off the basket. “I’ll try to be more careful in the future.”
Chef – who seemed to have heard the other Orcs snide comments – waved a dismissive hand. “They can be as grumpy as they want, everyones’ got to eat their speck of dirt.” He comforted you with a smile.
Although the sting of the comments didn’t leave, Chef’s words certainly lessened the hurt of them. You returned the his smile, and left to go and carry on with your other duties.
But it seemed as though the world had other plans. Your next task, was to weave fishing nets. The camp was going to be approaching a river soon and salmon would be making their way upstream, so it was imperative that these nets are finished.
The only problem being, that as soon as you were done with knotting one net and prepared to move onto the next one, your freshly finished work would fray.
The other Orc who was weaving with you, examined your work.
She frowned as she examined it. “How’d you manage this?” She asked, tugging at a particularly unkempt section of your work.
And with that, all your hard work came undone, collecting in a pile of rope at the Orcs feet.
Your jaw dropped. Weaving nets was one of the many things you’d gotten good at since you arrived at the camp, it made no sense that your work would decline so suddenly.
“I don’t understand… I did everything right!” You protested.
The Orc frowned, picking up the now unusable rope and narrowed her eyes at it, running her thumb over the frays. She sighed and looked at you. “You’re just having an awful time of it, aren’t you? First it was the fish and now it’s this,” She looked back down at the rope. “We bought this rope from a different merchant, so it might just be shoddy material.” She handed you her unfinished net. “Here, finish this and I’ll make a note of it.”
You set to work again. This time, you made sure your knots for the net were tied twice, pulled extra tight and revisited them to make sure that they hadn’t fallen apart while you were working at the rest of it.
When the Orc came back, you showed her the work you’d done. She scrutinised your work once again and took the net from you.
Only for all the knots you’d double-triple checked to unravel. You stared, dumbfounded at the net.
The Orc sighed, closing her eyes and trying to hide her irritation. “Do you just want to take a minute?” She asked you. “Maybe go and do something else for a little while.”
It wasn’t a suggestion.
You made yourself scarce and found yourself standing alone in the middle of camp. What was going on with you?
Mentally, you ran through your morning: you’d woken up at a regular time, you’d had breakfast like normal, kissed your boyfriend goodbye when he left to go hunting and gotten to work on helping the camp out.
Nothing seemed to be out of order about your morning. Maybe the Weaver was right, perhaps you just needed a break; it’s important to have a healthy work-life balance after all.
So, you returned to your tent. When you stepped into the tent, you frowned at the mess inside it. You were a clean person… your Orc Boyfriend however, was a completely different story.
He always left his clothes strewn about, sharp bladed weapons lying on the ground or propped up against your bed frame. He always told you it wasn’t dangerous to sleep with the pointed tip of a blade beside your pillow; But you found it hard to believe when your Boyfriend had nearly poked his eye out on numerous occasions.
Well, putting things away isn’t a difficult task, is it? And your tent needs to be cleaned before you can relax anyway.
Scooping up any dirty clothes on the ground, you threw them into a basket in the corner, picked up weapons, books lying around, as a strange thing your partner had been building on the table in the corner of your tent.
He wouldn’t tell you what it was, all he said was that it was held together with glue and that it needed time to dry. So, you’d left it alone mostly.
However, you did wish he could be more neat about how he stored all his equipment.
After putting away all the books and putting the weapons away in a safer place, you started to rearrange the small parts of wood and other materials your partner had been using.
The project itself seemed to be a jumble of sticks all pointing out in different directions, completely unidentifiable.
It was all going so well. It was, blissfully fine… until you turned too fast and sent your boyfriends project crashing to the floor.
Everything had gone slow as you fumbled to reach it. You watched in horror as you missed it, and the wooden craft smashed on the ground. All the hard work your boyfriend had put in to it, gone in under a minute.
And to add icing on the cake, your Orc boyfriend opened the tent flaps and saw you, hunched over his work.
The two of you locked eyes, stared at each other in stunned silence.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t-”
Your boyfriend let out a disappointed sigh. “I told you not to touch it, didn’t I?”
At his tone, your eyes began to water, and you burst into tears.
Your boyfriends disappointment vanished and he rushed over to you, “hey, don’t cry love, I wasn’t trying to make you-”
“It’s been like this all day.” You spoke over him, tears running down your cheeks. “Everything I seemed to do, just fell apart or went wrong. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I’m really sorry I didn’t mean to break it.”
Your Orc placed his hand on your shoulder as he listened to your wracked sobs. His hand rubbed up and down your back, “it’s okay, you’re okay, alright? It was a mistake, you didn’t mean to do it.”
After a few minutes, your sobs quieted, only leaving you sniffling. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.” You mumbled.
“You haven’t done anything wrong.” Your boyfriend pulled you into his lap and squeezed you tightly. “It’s just a bad day, okay? Life is just like this sometimes, yeah?”
He planted a kiss on your forehead and gave you a tight squeeze. “Look, why don’t you take the rest of the day off, and I’ll go and do whatever you’re supposed to do, okay?”
You nodded. The two of you stood as your boyfriend picked up the broken project he was working on.
“I’m really sorry.” You said, again.
“Love, it’s fine really. I wasn’t even enjoying it that much anymore.” He gave you a smile, “I felt like I was in too deep to stop it now, so you actually did me a favour.”
You didn’t think he was telling the truth, but you still returned his smile, thankful that he was trying to make you feel better.
