"Flying brooms isn't that difficult. But it's gotten a reputation that means it isn't that something you can just indulge in anymore. Everyone sees a witch with a broom and suddenly there's an assumption that we're flying off to poison apples and eat babies." Lilia punctuated her complaint with an irritated roll of the eyes.

"Badly behaved witches are as much to blame as the industrial holiday industry. But in spite of that," she added emphatically, "the actual physical flying is still very, very easy."

Gabriel was biting his lip and staring out into space across the courtyard at Shiz University, tapping his thigh as he stood next to Galinda. Laughter from nearby startled him out of his reverie by nearby laughter. He looked around, confused, for a moment, before looking up to see some of their classmates looking at them and laughing. He frowned, looking back at them for a moment, not noticing them tapping their legs the way he tapped his, before looking at his friend with a neutral frown. "Did I miss something? What's funny?"

It had been the longest of days. First of all her father and Nessarose had been invited to the Emerald City. It was nice to see her sister and her father was surprisingly pleasant. They'd spent the day seeing the touristy spots, and Elphaba hadn't been asked for any lessons or meetings during the day. It had been going perfectly okay until the fanciful dinner hosted by the Wizard that evening.

The Wizard who had decided that was the moment to name his heir to the throne: his biological daughter. Elphaba. The night had been a chaotic blur after that with her father- Nessa's father?- running off in a heated plume and Nessa hurrying after him and a gaggle of press among them.

It had been hours and Elphaba was just now settling down to any kind of calmness. Glinda was here, holding her and braiding her hair as they listened to an episode of Call the Magician in the background. She was still seething a little bit inside. But she could stay still enough to let Glinda comfort her.

Will had gotten home late from a shoot. He was tired. He wanted to call or text Mel for her birthday, but he couldn't, due to how busy he was that day. He wished it to her in the morning before he left, but he forgot that he gets up earlier than her. He decided that tomorrow would be her day. He'd pamper and spoil her, but for right now, all he wanted to do was sleep. As quietly as he could, he took off his shoes and socks, and changed into his pajamas, not caring about taking a shower or brushing his teeth from how fatigued he had become. He'll do all of that in the morning. Once he got his pajamas on, he crawled under the covers and planted a kiss on her forehead.

"Happy birthday, my darling," He whispered softly.

"Mother, are you busy?" Apollonia calls stepping into her mother's rooms, she knew her mother was usually very busy. But the heiress hoped she could spare some time for her.

Witches heard the ballad, they believed they would be different, that they'd be granted everything they wished, none of them realising the truth. The harsh reality of it all.
