My Man Foucault

I love Noam Chomsky but if it's gonna be Chomsky vs Foucault, it's always my fav gay boi

Even though he rejected labels such as homosexuality bcs they result in negative consequences for those on whom these labels are attached.

But the fact that he said all this like what more than 40 years ago and yet its' so relevant today is both harrowingly scary and ironically beautiful at the same time.

Jorge Furtado: Isle of Flowers

The Isle of Flowers is a place where humans eat the leftovers of pigs’ dinners, after seemingly everyone else has eaten too. This film follows a tomato through the turns and loops of its life as it travels from the farmer that grew it to the dinner of poor women and children. The seemingly meaningless life of waste is accompanied by a deluge of relentless accountings of the chain of events that allow waste to accumulate, failing to justify the systems that support it and instead highlighting the absurd injustice of consumer society.

Human  beings distinguish themselves from other animal by their highly developed ?, the opposable thumb and by being free. Being free is the state of one who has freedom. Freedom is a word that the human dream feeds on; that no one can explain or fail to understand.

So that it is in him that things (those same things that hang over him) find their beginning: rather than a cut, made at some given moment in duration, he is the opening from which time in general can be reconstituted, duration can flow, and things, at the appropriate moment, can make their appearance. Though, in the empirical order, things are always set back from him, so that they are unapprehendable at their zero point, nevertheless man finds himself fundamentally set back in relation to that setting back of things, and it is by this means that they are able to weigh down upon the immediacy of the original experience with their solid anteriority.
