Liguria's main attraction is unanimously considered to be the Cinque Terre: five villages clinging on precariously to the cliffs with the blue waters of the Ligurian sea below. But Liguria is more than that. The Ligurian hinterland is a place of authentic village life where the houses are made of stone and the streets are so narrow that people can only get around on foot or, if physically possible, by 'ape': the iconic three-wheeled light commercial vehicle that sounds like a bee 🐝. It's no coincidence that quite a few of these under-the-radar villages up in the Ligurian hills and mountains have been listed as some of the most beautiful villages in Italy—and Taggia is one of them. Taggia is listed as one of Italy's prettiest villages thanks to its medieval architecture with its small piazzas separated by narrow alleyways that wind up and down the hill on which the village is built—not to mention the rows of vaulted-covered shops that were apparently built to protect them from earthquakes. All this made my visit to Taggia an enchanting one with a touch of authenticity in that nothing seemed to be presented in a certain way to catch my attention; rather, it was unspoiled and very much down-to-earth. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: To get to Taggia, take a train from Genova, Savona or Albenga heading for Ventimiglia and get off at Taggia-Arma. From there, take a bus ('Rivieratrasporti') line 13 for Taggia. If you're based in the seaside resorts Sanremo or Arma di Taggia, the same bus will take you to Taggia. ______________________________________ #Taggia #Ig_Savona_Imperia #NatGeoTravel #LiguriaGram #OrgoglioLiguria #Italia #Italy #LonelyPlanet #SoloTraveler #Alluring_Villages #Slowtourism #BestDestinations #PeoplesCreatives #BorghidItalia #TravelGreen #BorghiItaliani #BorghiPiùBellidItalia #TravelZoo #MoodyGrams #InstaGood #InstaDaily #LaMiaLiguria #Liguria_Super_Pics #Shotz_Of_Liguria #VivoItalia #Ig_Liguria #YallersLiguria #VolgoLiguria #ClickFor_Italia #Raw_Italy https://www.instagram.com/p/CFXp5OYIbRr/?igshid=1uzdb83mu24g4

'Montalto' means 'high hill', a name that it certainly lives up to because it's over 300 metres above sea level. From the very top of the village you are rewarded with amazing views of the valley, including the French Maritime Alps if you are lucky with the weather. Turning to the village now, I found it to be deceptively small as I got lost quite a few times in its incredible stone passageways, as you can see in this photo set. But then that's arguably the best way to visit a medieval town or village. Moreover, I was enchanted by the medieval beauty and quietness of this sleepy ancient village. I could imagine people going for romantic strolls along the maze of alleys, many of which are adorned with plants and flowers — a common theme in Liguria. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: If you want to have an experience that's out of this world, you only need to take a bus with the company 'Riviera Trasporti' from Sanremo bus station or Arma di Taggia departing for Triora, an ancient village famous for its bread, wine and witches. ______________________________________ #valleargentina #ig_savona_imperia #lamialiguria #orgoglioliguria #italia #italy #ilikeitaly #beautifulplaces #italycomestoyou #italianvillages #kings_villages #doyoutravel #finditliveit #openmyworld #montaltoligure #estateitaliana #throwbackthursday #oldtown #whatitalyis #exploremore #lonelyplanet #natgeotravel #yallersliguria #yallersitalia #igersitalia #ig_liguria #traveldiaries #bbctravel #gf_italy #travelgramitalia (at Montalto Ligure) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEr8wxioVtj/?igshid=2q144hxgo7m1

There, at the top of an imposing promontory called Punta Crena, stands the old vestige of a lookout tower known as 'Torre Saracena' where you can take in spectacular views of the whole gulf as far as Capo Noli. But that isn't the only reason why many Ligurians holiday in the sundrenched seaside and sandy resort of Varigotti; it's considered one of the most beloved places in Liguria thanks to its little pastel-coloured houses lined along the beachfront that remind of summer fruit like apricots, peaches, lemons and strawberries. The best bit for me was wandering through the maze of alleys among these colourful houses and small – sometimes silent – squares that suddenly opened out onto the sandy shore—a remarkable feeling that adds to Varigotti's unique charm and beauty. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: I got to Varigotti via public transport (TPL Linea) on the Savona–Finale Ligurebus route. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it's also much more convenient than taking the car due to a small number of parking spaces in the area. ____________________________________ #bestdestinations #varigotti #ig_savona_imperia #lamialiguria #orgoglioliguria #italia #italy #ilikeitaly #ig_italia #yallersitalia #volgoitalia #guardiantravelsnaps #igersliguria #yallersliguria #volgoliguria #doyoutravel #finditliveit #travelphotography #travelblogger #seascape #italygram #gramslayers #heatercentral #estateitaliana #traveldiaries #tv_travel #awesome_earthpix #shotz_of_liguria #beautifuldestinations #wonderful_places (at Varigotti, Liguria, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEP_Vk_Is8s/?igshid=n40vepvzfyhl

This quote, in my view, best sums up one of Italy's best-kept secrets on the Riviera. Camogli is such a picturesque seaside resort that it somehow continues to be under the radar—for now, at least. And it's not just its colourful and symmetrically shaped houses that lure Italians, but also its fine 'focaccerias' that are more than well-deserved after going on long walks from one seaside town to another, all connected by a scenic footpath. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: In terms of getting there, it's best (as always) to go by rail from Genoa – with the Regional train – or from La Spezia but with the Intercity train if you want to avoid having to change train on the way there. Camogli may not be as well known as the Cinque Terre, but it is without a doubt unmissable and "hard to forget" – even in winter! ______________________________________ #camogli #orgoglioliguria #lamialiguria #liguriagram #ligurian_places #italia #italy #italianriviera #ilikeitaly #igersitalia #yallersitalia #volgoitalia #doyoutravel #whatitalyis #italy_illife #liguria_super_pics #igersliguria #yallersliguria #volgoliguria #ig_genova #forbestravelguide #genoa #travelblog #visititaly #tv_travel #traveldrops #browsingitaly #bestvacations #loves_madeinitaly #theprettycities (at Camogli) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDr6K9YIC6W/?igshid=11ofrqowi3e4c
Canon Powershot SX730 HS Taken on 02/03/2019. At the foot of the Ligurian Alps is a marvellous medieval village called Perinaldo. Here, at almost 600 metres above sea level, you can enjoy majestic views spanning from the mountains to Corsica and get up close to the centuries-old groves, mimosas and vineyards that go down to the sea. I was in Perinaldo at the beginning of March and I vividly remember many locals picking the mimosa, a lovely fluttery springtime branch made up of hundreds of tiny flowers which is traditionally given to celebrate International Women's Day on 8th March. The medieval village of Perinaldo consists of the characteristic carrugi, splendid squares and old patrician houses built within the ancient sandstone walls. The best bit for me was walking through a medieval archway called 'Bia Affrescata' that was rich in extraordinary paintings hung on the stone walls. Swipe through this photo set and prepare to be amazed! 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: Take a bus from Ventimiglia to Perinaldo with 'Rivieratrasporti' (line 8) that stops at Vallecrosia, Soldano, San Biagio before making a final stop at Perinaldo. ______________________________________ #bestdestinations #ig_savona_imperia #lamialiguria #liguriagram #orgoglioliguria #perinaldo #italia #italy #yallersitalia #yallersliguria #ig_italia #ig_liguria #beautifulplaces #bbctravel #guardiantravelsnaps #instadaily #instagoodmyphoto #2instagoodportraitlove #justgoshoot #peoplescreatives #exploretocreate #passionpassport #throwbackthursday #borghiditalia #borgodeiborghi #borghiitaliani #shotz_of_liguria #thehub_liguria #raw_italy #italy_illife (at Perinaldo, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDjUY8mIAbb/?igshid=1jbpajiqseckn
