A child stood in front of the gates. On first glance she might have seemed ordinary, if not for how sickly she looked. Her skin was too pale, her form too thin, and who ever saw a child with such deep bags under her eyes? And the eyes themselves! Black. Not dark brown, black. Perhaps it wasn't so strange she stood outside of Xavier's school for the gifted. She gripped the fence with dirty hands and wasn't so sure about this large building. It all looked so fancy, and she certainly wasn't that. All of her belongings were on her back, in the bag. The big yard, the gate, the building itself...it made her nervous. She had no way of knowing the X-men lived inside, she had no way of knowing most of them were away right now on a mission, she didn't even know who the X-men were. All she knew was that the name, this image, had been burned into her mind. She intended to find out why.
Or at least, she had, when she set out three days ago. But now that she had made it here, she wasn't so sure. The sign said school. How many people were inside? She didn't do so well around other people, especially not other kids. Maybe she should just go? Something screamed inside her head, making her grasp it with a gasp and nearly fall to her knees.
“Okay! I'm going!” the screaming subsided, and she gave herself a hug and a moment to stop shaking. A moment to wipe the bit of blood from her nose with the back of her hand. It wasn't normally this bad. How long had it been since she slept? She didn't remember. She shook the thoughts away, gathered her courage. The gate was open, since it was the middle of the day, and it wasn't too hard to find something that resembled a front door. There was even a door bell. She didn't see anyone around. That was good at least. Or was it? What kind of school was so quiet? She looked around for any signs of danger, peaked in the window, but didn't see anything. What was she even doing here? Why had they sent her here of all places? She stared at the doorbell with a concerned expression for a minute, and with a shaking hand rang. Waited for the door to be answered. Now that the ringing was out of her head, she was beginning to realize just how tired she was. Stay awake.
“I think I'm here to help you.” she said out loud, as if rehearsing. “Have you noticed anything unusual?” stay awake. At last the door opened, though she didn't have the strength to open her eyes. She gave her usual delivery as best she could, despite half falling asleep. She managed to open her eyes half way for most of the conversation, though she couldn't seem to focus them.
“Hello. I...I think I'm here to help. Have you...noticed anything....unusual? Cold spots...things moving on their own....strange...noises...” Staying awake clearly wasn't working out so well.
