Something I’ve very interested in reading is Eragon’s sense of justice and duty conflicting with his desire to have a repaired relationship with Murtagh and have him back in his life.
Murtagh has to answer for Hrothgar’s death, and face those affected by what he has done.
Eragon is bound by his promise to Orik, and as a member of Ingenitum, and the adopted son of Hrothgar to bring Murtagh to justice to answer for Hrothgar’s death.
However, Murtagh profoundly is not going anywhere near the Beor Mountains of his own free will, and Eragon is not going to drag him there for a trial. Eragon wants a healed relationship with his half-brother, but also made a promise to his adoptive foster-brother.
Soooooo…. Interested how Eragon will handle this conundrum. He’s kind of caught in the middle and in a way has removed himself from the situation by establishing himself east. Part of me wonders if he’s keeping that on the back burner since Murtagh is MIA and is avoiding him. Right on the heels of that thought came the idea the idea that Eragon is hoping he can talk Murtagh into making amends with Orik. Eragon may have hope that while Orik will demand some sort of recompense from Murtagh, he won’t execute him(???).
On Murtagh’s side, he’s going to understand why Eragon hands him over to Orik. He sees it as Eragon not wanting to lose his standing, influence, favor with Orik. But, he’s going to view this as a sign that he can’t trust Eragon with his life and wellbeing. It will be seen as a betrayal if it happens after he and Eragon make some ground in their relationship.
Anyway, interested to see how this plays out for Eragon. Is he able to sway things in Murtagh’s favor as part of Ingentium and still satisfy his promise to Orik? Or will things start to slip away and he is confronted with the choice of which brother does he side with?
