This is why I love this anime!
okay, this is bothering me since last last night. so ginji is the one who saved young aoi (this is no surprise now). but the question is why? or, what is the connection between the two of them, or rather, the three of them (ginji, aoi, oodanna)?
you see, ginji has worked for tenjin-ya for 50 years. aoi is a college student (in her early twenties right? i cant remember if her exact age was mentioned in the anime). and i’m assuming shiro has given his granddaughter as a collateral when aoi was young (or wasnt even born, bc shiro can be like that???? lol). therefore, oodanna knows aoi; maybe kept watch over her too. remember epsisode 1? oodanna, w/ his mask on, was just sitting there on the temple stairs, as if he’s waiting for aoi to pass by and even said ‘i’m hungry’ two times (this still cracks me up every time i remember it)so i guess he knows that aoi feeds ayakashi (aka chibi). since oodanna and ginji are close friends (damn right they are & i love their bond) it could be that ginji knew aoi as oodanna’s fiancee even before he met her — that would explain how he formally refers to aoi as ‘oodanna-sama’s fiancee’. so ginji kept watch over her too — that would now lead to the saving a young hungry aoi scene.
then the question would be, what is the role of ougin-douji-sama here? she could be the one who made that golden ball of food to save aoi, as she, oodanna, and ginji knows each other well. and in exchange for that miracle food, she shortened ginji’s stay in tenjin-ya to 50 years (i’m not exactly sure with this, but ougin-douji said it was a personal business between the two of them), or maybe something more of equivalent exchange, idk.
and the last question is, what is the promise between ginji and oodanna?????
